UK, Northern Soul !!!
Dobie Gray was a great artist, one of his best tracks was, 'The 'In' Crowd', which I highly recommend you react to. This track by him was big on the Northern Soul scene, a lot of Northern Soul tracks have a similar tempo and beat to Motown, and many of the artists had at one time recorded for Motown but not had success there, so went on to record for much smaller labels, a lot of records of Northern Soul were obscure tracks found by DJs and collectors by going through record crates. Northern Soul came out of the original 'Mod' scene of the '60s, these were the faster tracks which weren't as popular as others with the 'Mods', a splinter group sprang up which was first known as 'Soul Boys', the term 'Northern Soul' came about due to a record importer and record shop owner in the South of England using the term to describe the type of soul music which was preferred by his buyers in the North of England. I hope that this helps explain the background a bit.
If you want to know more about Northern Soul then just look for videos about Wigan Casino here on TH-cam - the two are inextricably linked. One year the Casino - just a venue in a northern English town that didn't even serve alcohol - was named best disco in the world. That was the same world that contained the likes of Studio 54 in New York. Their all-nighters are legendary. Sadly the Casino was demolished long ago, but anybody who ever went there will remember the experience until their dying day. Just watch the dancers and be amazed. And the music is brilliant as well 😄

I was lucky enough to go there 3 times amongst various other northern soul places, am 67 now and will never forget the experience of the movement at the time. Still have all my 45's.

Slight aside , was doing some house cleaning today a chore I never enjoy 😓 when from my playlist Robert Palmer popped up with "Housework"
Suddenly the chore became fun, got that lounge done and dusted in no time . I guess we all know his hits but his stuff like Housework, History and I Woke up Laughing are so unappreciated.
