Tour’s battle mode is actually pretty good. It’s last man standing balloon battle but when you get eliminated, you spectate the course on a moving platform and are given items to throw onto the course and hit people with.
I actually have ideas for it to come back. If the player wants to play Balloon Battle or Bob-omb Blast, there will be two versions: Modern (what we've seen in Balloon Battle since Wii) and Classic (the Elimination version from games prior to Wii). I'd like the next Mario Kart to pull a Smash Ultimate with not only the characters, but also the tracks, modes (yes, even MK8 Wii U's weird battle mode on regular tracks, with particular tracks available all the time and some only available if the Feather is enabled in Custom Items), and items. This would give it eight battle modes: Shine Thief, Shine Runners, Coin Runners, Renegade Roundup, Balloon Battle (Classic), Balloon Battle (Modern), Bob-omb Blast (Classic), and Bob-omb Blast (Modern)
Sadly it's almost certainly due to the game's bigger focus being Online Play and wanting parity between singleplayer and multiplayer in terms of default rules
There is an elimination style mode in Tour, differences are that there are items specific to your character/glider build (business as usual in Tour); you only have 2 balloons; and (only when playing multiplayer) when you're eliminated you will spectate on a moving platform and occasionally get items to throw into the arena.
That was what made the original Mario Kart 8 so much fun. If you were playing with others and you got elimated, you would become a ghost and would have to eliminate others, and make them rage. That was my favorite part of it.
I may be wrong saying this but in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, if you have under 5 seconds in Shine Thief but lose the shine in that period, I'm pretty sure the next time you get the shine it goes back to 5 seconds on your timer.
You are 100% correct about that 5 second set back in Shine Thief. It makes sense so if the leading team loses the shine, the other team has a chance to catch up.
Never did I ever expect to love the 'Cut ______" nearly as much as I do now. I doubt many other TH-camrs can replicate the interest and humour you have in your videos. Keep on posting the great content. Drybones for smash
Mario Kart Tour actually has some unique features in its Battle Mode that make it different from other Mario Kart games! For example, when you lose all your balloons in Balloon Battle, you respawn on high platforms above the track, where you can get items to throw at the other racers. It's like a shooting minigame, and it makes the battle more intense as more players get eliminated. It also prevents players from hiding at the edge of the map, because they are easy targets for the sky shooters. Another cool feature is that the Item Boxes move closer to the center of the course as the time runs out. This forces players to be more aggressive and risky, instead of camping near the edge and waiting for the end.
It returned in tour, and of you die in multiplayer or online you’ll be teleported to a floated platform above the track where you’ll be given items to throw down onto the track, similar to how you’re still able to cause chaos when eliminated using bomb cars.
@@CertifiedSoapEater I do like how they did that, but the likelihood of hitting someone with one of your items when you’re eliminated is rare because people just avoid them
Sadly you didn't mention the Mario Kart Tour version of battle mode which added a huge changes compared to the other games. It actually brought back the stamina gimmick from the older games, when you loose all your balloons you get excluded from the game but if you lose in multiplayer/online you will stay in a moving platform around the battle course throwing items at the other players until someone win, there's a Timer which starts when there's only two people left. Balloon battle is the only mode for now, but you can customize your items in multiple. Mario Kart Tour also added a unique future to battle mode which is the capability to customize your balloons and they added more balloons colors.
Correction: The timer can start with more than two people, it just starts after a long time has passed (I think 2 and a half minutes considering how fast Tour rounds are supposed to go)
maybe it's because that's the worst battle mode in the series (yes, even worse than Wii's Battle Mode) the platform move agonisingly slow, and that is especially bad for a mobile game, literally the whole point of them is to be quick bursts of fun, not waiting on a platform to move to the next item for 40 years, Mario Kart 8 handled eleiminiation a lot better (if only it wasn't stuck in one of the worst Battle Mode's in the series)
@@karlispovisils5297if that's the case, I do hope we will get a better course than Delfino Pier. It's way too big for a battle course in Mario Kart, and half of it floods by the end. I get that's part of the gimmick of that course, but why slowly lose more and more of it as you go on?
Balloon Battle (Last Man Standing) (LMS) - Use a Bob-Omb that can only appear for 3 times Bob-Omb Blast (Double Dash) - Yeah an option for this can be nice Balloon Battle (DS) - Another option for MK? YES PLEASE Moon Runners - Yeah I know it's just the same as shine runners but like this reskin is MUCH COOLER
Balloon battle royale is pretty well implemented in tour But yeah, the bob b is very funny too I like last man standing and ds's shine mode, would be cool if those mods could ne added in 8dx with a switch (like time vs stocks in smash for last man standing)
My ideas for the next battle mode are Balloon Battle (Modern this is the same as in games after Wii) (Classic this is the same as games prior to Wii) Coin Runners: (Modern same as 8DX,Wii, and 7) (Classic same as DS but with Coins instead) Shine Thief: same as 8DX Bob-omb Blast: (Modern same as 8DX) (Classic same as Double Dash) Renegade Roundup: same as 8DX Thunder Cloud Tag (New): any items that make you invincible are removed one person will randomly get a Thunder Cloud it activated automatically they have to pass it on before it shrinks you and whoever it shrinks is out this keeps on going until the last person out wins
I think DS was my favorite battle mode, not even because shine runners, I think it just had the most replayability and the fact you could play it in single player with CPUS if you had no one to play with. I always remember just always targeting specific CPUS when I would play by myself for hours lol. 8 Deluxe's battle mode won't be updated. It's long forgotten and I'm pretty sure Nintendo forgot it exists.
The pause before the explosion made me think it was a jumpscare like all the other videos… the first time I was scared by one of his jumpscares, if you count it.
I like the way Tour handles things when you are knocked out playing online. You hover over the arena on a small platform on rails and wait for item boxes to try to precisely fire down below.
It would be cool if in the last booster pack they add a new battle mode or two. They did something close with adding item customization, so it would be cool to see, but my holes aren’t too high.
I was literally just re-watching your previous level by level, Mario kart videos, and then one of them you ranked them as a side tangent and made a joke about not being able to make tearless video about them anymore and here it is lol
Just gonna come out and say it - Wii has the worst battle mode in the entire series. Yes it’s worse than even 8 Wii U (and this is coming from someone who grew up on Mario Kart Wii). Forced teams pretty much just makes the battle an entire game of luck (you gotta hope that your team’s CPUs are capable beings), and coming back after losing all your balloons with no consequences is silly. Also I actually like the idea of battling on actual race courses
Always been a Mario Kart DS player and it's battle mode is great. The DS had so much control over driving that it was really precise when battling. Yeah it's not the most impressive modes or maps, but they're really solid without flaws. I love the strategic element to balloon battle, I nearly always stay at 2, to try and steal someone else's balloon.
My favourite battle mode is vy far the DS one. I especially like that you are given only five ballons in balloon mode and you lose if they all pop. It gives the mode a survival feeling instead of the mass-murder feeling of the modern mode. Shine Runner is also very great, as it also has this survival feeling and a sense of desperation to collect enough shines as to survive. I played this mode a ton as a kid.
Mario Kart 9 Battle Mode idea: Balloon Battle with the time limit and the last man standing rules. When the timer runs out, the game enters an "overtime" phase where everyone automatically is reduced to one balloon.
Gonna be honest, I had a lot of fun with the MK8 "Battle Course." Me and my family used to play Hide & Seek with all thr track. I renmeber finding some really good spots too (Maybe there couod be a Hide & Seek battle mode in the future)!
am i the only mkwii coin runners stan out there? i know it's 100% nostalgia speaking but i played mkwii so much as a kid and i was scared of the balloons for some reason so coin runners is most of what i played and also i very well could be misremembering but i swear i remember playing a match as a kid on funky kong stadium where i collected every single coin on the field (at least out of those collected by any character, as every other character on the results screen had 0) except for 1 singular coin, which was collected by wario who was on my team
Mario Kart Wii was my first Mario Kart, and now that I look back, I could’ve been playing better battle modes. I like the battle maps, but as to how you said, I wish I can play single player too, instead of teaming up with CPUs. But a hot take I have. I don’t mind Coin Runners. I find it cool that you can collect the most coins and try to win over your opponents! And there’s a lot of risk when it comes to you collecting the most coins since you lose a lot when hit. It’s probably one of my favorite battle modes besides Balloon Battle, when it comes to how to strategize the victory.
We could also get tour’s version of last man standing in balloon battle, where eliminated players are teleported to floating platforms above the map where they are given items to throw down onto the map
One thing that I remember my friend and I doing in 64 was when on the teered battle map (can't remember the name, but it had 4 levels connected by ramps in green and red colors and paired) was taking a red shell and returning to sender. If one of us was on the lower level of a pair of levels, and the other was on the upper level of the same pair, and both of us were on the same side of the respective level then depending on where we were in relationship to each other if one of us fired a red shell, it would lock on to the other and try to fallow them only to be guided back to the shooter.
Here's what I would do for the next battle mode: Balloon Battle: Last man standing with a time limit. Whoever has the most balloons at the end of the clock wins, and if mutiple people tie, it goes to a sudden death round where everyone has one balloon and gets a free item (if they don't have one). If you die, you become a Bomb-omb that blows up when you hit a driver or item. Afterwards, you must wait 10 seconds before respawning. Bomb-omb players are removed if sudden death engages. Coin Runners: Same as 8 Deluxe. Shine Thief: Same as 8 Deluxe. (NEW) Moon Catchers: Same as DS's Shine Runners. When you get knocked out, you just drive round as a ghost and can use items like in OG 8. Bomb-omb Blast: Same as Double Dash, but you need 6 points. I don't see a need for the knock-out variant when we have Balloon Battle. Renegade Roundup: Same as 8 Deluxe. (NEW) Follow The Ring: A ring will travel around the map for a set time. Whoever stays in the ring the longest wins.
I really love double dash's bob-om blast mode. That game mode was my entire childhood. Also i remeber it being super satisfying to just collect the bob-oms, having a massive pile show up in the hands of the character was super funny and then knowing i could just absolutely unload all the boms on someone or jump out of a pipe and carpet bomb then was some of the most fun ive ever had with mariokart as a whole
It's worth noting I specifically remember that MKWii does let you turn off CPUs, at the very least if you have two or more players, so you could do 2v2s with your friens.
I grew up on the DS and never knew less balloons meant you got better items I assumed the risk-reward came from being able to take balloons by using a mushroom
As a Toad main in MK64 I dreaded if the player that spawned across from me picked Bowser. If they start boosted correctly and I didn't dodge, or even worse mistimed my start boost and spun out, they could crush me between them and the back wall and KO all my balloons in the first 10 seconds of the match.
Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart's battle mode does a mix of the bombs from SC, & item boxes from DS. You can choose to either assist a player, by hitting an item box yourself & then having that player run into you, or you can run into another player to hurt them. This is known as the Karma Comeback.
4:30 that's actually not a Battle Mode problem specifically, it's from the whole game, one of the reasons I hate MK64 is because whenever I made a boost start behind a heavy weight, i would lose ALL my moments, like, just why?
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe IMO is also the best battle mode, but it's severely flawed. For one, now your teammates can hit you and vice versa, whereas MKWII you could only hit your opponent(s). The CPU programming isn't perfect either. I've seen my own teammates actively try and attack me in balloon battle and shine thief. Renegade Roundup is my favorite, and feels like the only battle mode when my teammates actually try to help me and beat the opposing team. But even it's flawed. Some courses favor one team over the either (sometimes the renegades and the cops). Speaking of which, why are there only 8 battle courses when MKWII had 10?
Probably a hot take, i wouldnt mind a battle mode conbined with a race mode, say, balloon battle in a race track but you're trying ro get the rhe best lap time in a match or finish X laps before everyone else, but you are eliminated and come back as a ghost that can't post new lap times/finish the race, but can attack other players. The winner would be the player eho finishes in first AND still has balloons left, or who gets the best lap time before they were eliminated The lap version/section version would kinda be like having wavky races in mario kart as you try to defeat your opponents and come in first place
Can’t tell you how many times people cheeses shine thief and if they had it reset to 15 seconds that could’ve saved so many lives and changed so many Battle mode matches lol
Double Dash's battle mode would be the best if only it hadn't been the last game to not feature CPU players. Just imagine 8 karts on Block City and Tilt a Kart! Because of that limitation, I'll have to call DS the best game for Battle Mode with Double Dash being in second.
Did you know that the Mario kart DS battle mode let you inflate balloons by just holding “select”, no mic necessary? That’s the way I always used to play because I could never blow up the balloons any other way.
I know Double Dash was one of the few gamecube games that supported LAN play for up to 16 players for races, but I've never heard if that works for battle mode or not.
The reason that hardly anyone plays battle mode online anymore years after that game was released like mkw and 8 & 8 deluxe mainly because a lot of people like online racing more than just playing battle mode online and I think it got boring and tied off playing the same battle course after a while playing online & mk7 not included because of a lot of players do play battle mode online on in that game and not the other games I mentioned.
Makes me a bit glad that CTR Nitro Fueled has a lot of options to choose from when it comes to the battle mode, such as removing time limits if you dont want them and such (a shame online play is uh oh, stinky)
I like to sing with the heavy characters, popping the light characters to lose a balloon for Mario kart 64 but then again, Bowser is the best character in the game and I’m always gonna try to play at him so yeah
Personally, I'm fine with the timer and having 12 people on the map. It adds a sense of urgency and means there are more targets to go for. The last man standing concept is ok, but it's more frustrating as in some games you can't do anything and the matches can drag on for a long time. I really don't understand why people have so much of a gripe with Mario Kart Wii's battle mode, it's always fun when I do it. The team option is probably annoying but I don't mind it. I think Double Dash and Wii have the best selection of overall battle maps, but each entry has a couple of standout stages.
I was thinking you could predict the tracks and characters that will appear in Wave 6 for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe BCP. Sort of like how you predicted what would be in the 2.0 and 3.0 updates for Super Mario Maker 2. E.G.: Acorn Cup: Tour Rome Avanti, GCN DK Mtn, NEW Piranha Plant Cove, Wii Toad's Factory Spiny Cup: Tour Madrid, GCN Dino Dino Jungle, NEW Piranha Plant Pipeline, SNES Bowser Castle 3 Characters: Diddy Kong, Pauline

Agreed, as someone who played tour for a while and did battle mode, it's pretty good, especially because they added special items to tour.
Yeah, somehow it’s actually really good?
It's no bomb kart, but if that is implemented into the next console Mario Kart, I'll take it!
It has battle mode variations of courses too, and not just phoned in like MK8 Wii U lol
Nope, tour battle mode sucks simply because you move SO SLOWLY, AND you cannot turn off auto accelerate. It genuinely makes me so angry.

8 battle maps compared to (eventually) 96 race tracks.
As of wave 5 we have 8 battle stages and 88 race tracks. Eight eight eight lol
When he chuckles at the together we're stronger meme was so adorable (platonically in a non-para social way) reminds me of my bb
Another thing I found out with MK DS Balloon Battle is that you can get your balloons by holding Select instead of blowing into the mic
They really should add both balloon battles but they might still change it because of online mode
It's worth noting I specifically remember that MKWii does let you turn off CPUs, at the very least if you have two or more players, so you could do 2v2s with your friens.
Wii has better battle maps tho, love the one with the bridge that goes down later in the match
I think Mario kart 8 wii u's ballon battle could work provided they make one change:
-If you get eliminated, you lose all of your points.
I grew up on the DS and never knew less balloons meant you got better items
I assumed the risk-reward came from being able to take balloons by using a mushroom
If youre just talking Balloon Battle specifically, then Mario Kart 64 is the definitive version
Don't forget to like and subscribe. And Dry Bones for Smash
Instead of blowing into the microphone on the DS, you can just press the select button and therefore save so much energy.
I’m sh*tting and crying because you didn’t talk about the battle mode in Tour.
Hopefully these return in Mario cart 9 or the expansion pass
You can play Double Dash with 16 people by using the broadband adaptor and connecting 4 GameCubes together just FYI!
You dont have to blow into the microphone to blow up balloons in ds, you can just hold the select button (which would be the - button on switch)
Mario kart ds battle mode could have been better if you could deliver fake item boxes instead of normal ones
Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart's battle mode does a mix of the bombs from SC, & item boxes from DS. You can choose to either assist a player, by hitting an item box yourself & then having that player run into you, or you can run into another player to hurt them. This is known as the Karma Comeback.
The reason I Like WIIs Battle Mode is the courses. They are amazing! But the Rules suck
Together we're stronger
4:36 YASSS COOL BOWSERRR🤩🤩🤩🤩
You can also press Select to give a balloon on DS
Why do you hate Coin Runners so much? It's my favorite mode in the entire series!
Can’t wait for cut courses in Mario kart series
Probably a hot take, i wouldnt mind a battle mode conbined with a race mode, say, balloon battle in a race track but you're trying ro get the rhe best lap time in a match or finish X laps before everyone else, but you are eliminated and come back as a ghost that can't post new lap times/finish the race, but can attack other players.
The winner would be the player eho finishes in first AND still has balloons left, or who gets the best lap time before they were eliminated
The lap version/section version would kinda be like having wavky races in mario kart as you try to defeat your opponents and come in first place
Was Double Dash's Lan play compatible for Battle mode?
Did you know that the Mario kart DS battle mode let you inflate balloons by just holding “select”, no mic necessary? That’s the way I always used to play because I could never blow up the balloons any other way.
I know Double Dash was one of the few gamecube games that supported LAN play for up to 16 players for races, but I've never heard if that works for battle mode or not.
This thumbnail. It pleases me.
Holy run-on sentence.
Shine Runners is honestly the best game mode in the series, though Renegade Roundup comes close
Makes me a bit glad that CTR Nitro Fueled has a lot of options to choose from when it comes to the battle mode, such as removing time limits if you dont want them and such (a shame online play is uh oh, stinky)
Tour’s battle mode returns to the Last Man Standing format, although thats likely because of Tour exclusive game mechanics
I like to sing with the heavy characters, popping the light characters to lose a balloon for Mario kart 64 but then again, Bowser is the best character in the game and I’m always gonna try to play at him so yeah
DS balloon battle was PEAK. especially pipe plaza
I lowkey miss playing battle mode on the summer daycare bus as a kid
Personally, I'm fine with the timer and having 12 people on the map. It adds a sense of urgency and means there are more targets to go for. The last man standing concept is ok, but it's more frustrating as in some games you can't do anything and the matches can drag on for a long time. I really don't understand why people have so much of a gripe with Mario Kart Wii's battle mode, it's always fun when I do it. The team option is probably annoying but I don't mind it. I think Double Dash and Wii have the best selection of overall battle maps, but each entry has a couple of standout stages.
10 bomombs and 2 people remaining would be extremely funny
7:54 bro's playing with drybones
*dry bones for smash*
I think kart 8 deluxe balloon battle needs 2 options: last man standing mode, and under that downed players respawn as bomb carts
I used to love Mario Kart battle mode, and I’d love to give it a try again at some point
Thanks for telling me that advantage bowser has in mk64. Definitely won’t be using against my friend, who uses toad
I think that you’re my fav TH-camr tbh, I hope you keep gaining popularity :>
Honestly, the only really bad thing in Mario Kart Wiis battle mode is the team mechanic
How does this person not run out of ideas!?!?!?!?!?
Id love to see a rainbow road ranking
I was thinking you could predict the tracks and characters that will appear in Wave 6 for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe BCP. Sort of like how you predicted what would be in the 2.0 and 3.0 updates for Super Mario Maker 2.
E.G.:
Acorn Cup: Tour Rome Avanti, GCN DK Mtn, NEW Piranha Plant Cove, Wii Toad's Factory
Spiny Cup: Tour Madrid, GCN Dino Dino Jungle, NEW Piranha Plant Pipeline, SNES Bowser Castle 3
Characters: Diddy Kong, Pauline
Do the cut characters of smash bros.
12:00 You can turn off CPUs in Mariokart Wii Versus and Battle Mode.
I enjoy the window into the small, strange world that views Battle Mode in different Mario Kart games as controversial
Bro is becoming Scott the Woz
For the first point (timed vs last man standing), I think they should let the eliminated players drop items like in Tour, on a track around the stage.
