Mazda 6 Turbocharger Underboost Fault Finding and Fix

  • Mazda 6 GY Sportwagon 2.0 DI 143 hp with the complain of low power . The car was feeling like there is no turbo activity , so the client decided to bring it to me , to have a look on it .
    The stored fault code was :
    P0299 Turbocharger / Supercharger Underboost

    I fixed problem with my turbocharger underboosting....Mazda 6 GY, 105kW, RF7J :)
    I´m used hose from blood pressure gauge and it´s working fine :) LOL

    Thank you very much! I have the M6 GH 2.0 diesel version, and for a while already I have the p2227 barometric pressure circuit range/performance error. Thanks to your video I know how to measure the pressure compared with the desired one, I will try today, only thay I am using Forscan, but anyway it has a similar graph. I think my problem will be either a loss of vacuum either some problems with the intercooler.

    Браво, момчета!!! Страхотен клип. При мен беше спукан на същото място маркуча. Ремонтирах го временно на един паркинг като прерязах скъсаното на маркуча. От къде мога да намеря такъв за да го сменя, че остатъка идва малко къс? Възможни ли са допълнителни усложнения по двигателя ако съм карал със спукан маркуч 10 000 км?

    Great video. I’m having a similar issue with a 2010 Mazda 6 MZR 2.2.
    Is the vacuum chamber the same as I can’t seem to find the same air box layout

    Same car here. I get p0401 and p0404. Don't have any issues driving but cannot find what the problem is. Any idea?

    Do you know what is normal operation of boost valve. If you connect pressure gauge to valve output, what pressure it has to show when car is idle and what changes when you press accelerator?

    I have issue with my 08 rdx you may be able to figure out. driving me bonkers. I got it for a steal at the auction. Throwing p2263 code and p0420 and a underboost code p0299. Acura dealer had serviced the car it’s whole life. One owner. The lady had 176k miles and was already lookin at a new rdx. She brought it in because it was running slow on acceleration and not going past 1/4 of the way in boost gauge.
    The car runs and drives good but very slow and anything past 50% throttle and it feels like even more restriction. Lower throttle works ok just very slow. Sometimes randomly it will have a little more pep than others.
    I’ve checked for boost leaks. Replaced the maf. Reset the ecu. It did this worse with stock intake I Even got a aftermarket intake which actually helped keep the code from coming back as soon. But didn’t help power much. You can hear the turbo spool. In neutral it wil rev fast an no issue but no boost showing on gauge in park or neutral just builds in driving mode and builds and drops off when it shifts like normal but low.
    I’m seeing on my code scanner the cat temp gets up to 1300deg and when sitting it’s like 800ish. I see the 02 sensor voltage fluctuate a lot when i rev it. Not sure what it’s supposed to be. I wouldn’t think an 02 would make a dealer say bad turbo and cause this much issue but the master tech at Sutton told them it was the turbo itself. I just find it hard to think it’s the whole turbo. Feels more like stuck wastgate or clogged cat or something. I have never removed a turbo and I don’t want to mess anything up or throw money at it without knowing for sure what’s wrong. The actuator is like 230$. New cats are 275 I think. And a catless down pipe is 400. Refurbished turbo is 800$ on eBay. Used is 650. Any advise? I feel like if the turbo is bad it wouldn’t spool so quick to 1/4 boost and stop. It’s like an actuator or something flow control is stopping it. The rod ends look fine.

      I'm not familiar with this Mazda . 90% of the time underboost problems are broken hose or actuator for the turbo geometry problem , with the control . Guess this engine doesn't have variable geometry turbo , it has waste gate to regulate the pressure , so yes you need to check it . If its controlled with vacuum , you need to see , does the actuator holding it , or not . Most likely is not the turbo itself .

      Crank mine is an Acura RDX with a td04h turbo. It has a weird design. The turbo has a turbo flow control actuator and a wastegate actuator I think. The dealer says it’s a bad turbo but they said that to my buddy and he replaced his turbo flow control actuator and it was like new. Thanks for fast reply. I’m going to take it apart soon and check the wastegate and a the actuators.

    Hi ..very great mechanic..this is engineer level , technician level just only change parts.. what about citroen c4 picasso 1.6v thp . P0299 P2262 ..cannot accelerate more than 4 PSI.

    Great video. I've found i have cracked pipes going to and from the vacuum reservoir. What do I search for to get a replacement. Are they 4mm or 5mm diameter?

    Hi, you have very cool videos. I have a mazda 6 gh 103kw and when the engine warms up the power drops and the turbo doesn't work at all. I don't know what to do. I have cleaned the particulate filter, new turbo and new air weight. I'm getting desperate. Any idea what it could be? Thanks

    Здравей, евала за видеата :) Имам проблем с мойта мазда 2.0 D 136 hp. Пропуши сериозно черен дим на ниски обороти след 2000 спира да пуши. Също так на свободна падат оборотите за момент с малко и после пак ги връща. И сякаш забави ускорението има забавяне от момента в който натисна газта до момента в който реално почва да вдига скоростта. Предположение?

    Здравей много се надявам да ми отговорите. Колата пушела ли е черен дим след 2200 оборота ? Имам мазда 6 136 кона дизел и незнам дали проблема ми е егр или нещо друго. След 2200 оборота колата не иска да ускорява и пуши черен дим което може би значи че не изгаря горивото. Има различни уроци които казват как да си провериш егр. Ивадих вакум маркучето което е към егрът и не усещам никъв вакум при форсиране. Бих бил много благодарен за мнение или помощ.

    Имах същия проблем, забелязах при чипосване че турбото не надува като хората и съвсем случайно видях сцепен маркуча на същото място.

      They were a crack in one of the vacuum lines , that was causing malfunction of the turbo control . Sorry if I didn't show the problem clearly
