The thing that I like with the Miyoo Mini Plus is its pocketability. The size is just right. I can put it in my front pocket and literally forget about it until its breaktime. It's my handheld daily driver. Awesome device up to PS1 / PSX games.

Regardless of what OS you use, do make sure to replace the SD card asap. Heck, it didn't take more than a few days before the SD card that came with it was corrupted. Luckily I did already back up everything other than the games itself. I really like this system. Best way to play games up to PS1 on a handheld, IMO (it has no analog sticks though, so some games like Ape Escape can't be played). It might run better at higher resolutions on something like a Steam Deck, but this is a small device you can easily bring with you. And even if you don't, I love the convenience of just picking it up to play something for a bit and to put it away again.

I'm getting mine in the mail today and I can't wait. I wanted the original Miyoo Mini, but by the time I really heard about it, nowhere had it in stock, unless I wanted to pay like 3x the price. Super excited to get the Plus.
I already have a Retroid Pocket 2+, but, ehhh. I mean, I DO like it, but there's something I don't really like about emulating on Android. It comes off feeling like I'm just opening files on an old low-end phone, as opposed to playing a game on a game console. Same reason I have a hard time emulating on a PC. I feel like, no attachment to the games or saves. Can't wait to get a handheld with an OS specifically dedicated to games and only games.
I also got my own 128gb sd card for it, because I don't really trust the cheapo no-name brand it comes with, and I'm just gonna replace the roms with my own anyway, so the card it comes with is kinda useless to me outside of just figuring out the folder structure.
And as an aside: I bought the Atomic Purple one. I might replace the ABXY buttons with black ones though, at some point, to match the Atomic Purple Game Boy Color a bit better. Not a huge fan of the redish maroon buttons it comes with, doesn't really match the Atomic Purple aesthetic.
    ---
Also, I ordered mine on Amazon. Sure, it cost a tiny bit more, but I wasn't sure what the shipping would be like on one site, and I heard the AliExpress page was taking some people weeks to get it. I'd rather just spend a few extra dollars to get 'free' 2-day shipping.

  • @minmogrovingstrongandhealthy

The UI Menu is great minus just one thing, I am not sure why they decided on such wrong design choice of 'lets put a light color background selector' while the icons are also white with light colored details. You need contrast or at least some major shadowing in order to white on white (light on light) can work but even then it's just bad, you need to be able to see in milliseconds of what is what and not strain you eyes.
With that said a simple change of the Selector color fixes this issue, which I hope it can be done somehow without erasing the entire OS.
Other then that I do agree the overall layout of the UI and menu is good and doesn't need changes. Just that one mistake I mentioned then it will be great.

this thing is fine for the ~$80-ish dollars spent on getting it up and running but the speaker sucks and buzzes when not at 100% brightness and the screen is strictly okay. i received mine around the same time as an Analogue Pocket (i know i know, not the same thing but worth comparing in some respects in my opinion). when you have the two side by side it's easier to see where miyoo makes sacrifices to come in cheaper. i really want to love the miyoo m+ and agree with all these "buy now/must buy" yt reviews but i can't help but feel like future iterations will be better.

Onion makes it even better. It's still beta though. I kinda find RG35XX more comfortable to use, but Garlic OS has very unstable workflow sometimes, especially when pressing the menu button. Also Miyoo's PS1 performance is a bit better imo. Both devices are great, you can't go wrong with either of these.

More Adin walls!!! The vertical handheld is one I'm so torn about. Thinking of perhaps waiting another year or two, as I like the power and form factor of the rg353v but feel no need for one at the moment with my rp3+. I do like verticals for their much better pocketing and have always considered miyoo for that, especially with the reports of the rg35xx having a less than ideal dpad.

Also I have to say after messing around with daijisho I guess I can see why some people prefer Linux, but I'm just not seeing it. I've homebrewed multiple devices so for me the process was more "tedious" than it was challenging as some tech newbies may claim, but the benefits of running on android are insane. Better Bluetooth support as you mention, tons of apps for general device support (already put a blue light filter on my rp3+ for late night gaming and TH-cam premium), and it looks beautiful with tons of customization. I guess if people are so caveman they can't find Roms or point an emulator to a source folder, then Linux is definitely the best. The options android front end gives you is just so much more vast and better quality than what I've seen of Linux, sans maybe the steam deck.
