    I had my suspicions. I had it in my cart 4 times but bailed every time. Watched endless vids to understand what I clearly saw was a bunch of compromises and odd design choices. But YOURS was the first vid that actually spoke my lingo! Thank you so much. Superb. You have a new fan (and not one that needs adjusting for performance mode)!

    Interesting take. I’ve been using the device for almost two months. I’ve found the small buttons and clamshell ergonomics to be mostly a non issue. The sticks are noticeably inferior to my Switch and Xbox but like you say, that’s the price you pay for the form factor. I picked up this device over everything else because it’s so easy to carry in a pocket and doesn’t require a separate case. It plays PSP and PS1 games perfectly. I have many GameCube and PS2 games running on the device and also had Xbox Game Pass working flawlessly. The biggest issue I’ve had with more traditional home console games is the size of the screen (which is identical to RP3+). My main point of reference for this device is the 3DS which, for me personally, is the best portable gaming device ever made - this Retroid is about the same size but packs in the power to play vastly more game libraries. It’s quite mind boggling how much gaming goodness is packed into this tiny console! Best £150 gaming spend I ever made.

    I've had both the plus and the flip but I much prefer the Flip. I really like the sliders in that I seem to have better control, especially with driving games, than with the sticks on the 3+. I was a bit surprised but the Flip is my go-to now.

      I'm debating between the Flip or 3 plus. Can PS2 emulation run well on it? I also heard the cooling fans can be noisy. Is that true? Also, will I need a grip for the flip? If it doesn't run PS2 well, that's fine. I'll just play PS1, PSP, N64 and Dreamcast games on it. Will it take a 512GB SD card too? I'm also afraid the hinges on the Flip might break but if I'm careful it should not break. Thanks for your help.

      Really comes down to form factor, maybe I'm lucky but I haven't had any issues, so far. The fan can be a little noisy, I guess, but I have mine turned off, and it seems fine. Emulation is the same between models. As far as the hinge goes mine (red one) has been fine and I use it daily but just my experience. I use a 512gb and it will handle up to 1tb micro SD card. Here's a guide for how well games run on both RP3+ and the flip. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vf7SIS7ecWa_J301h0mb2bxMWBMtKLvcpAFyaa5-LDc/htmlview#@@DarinMartin86

      @@DarinMartin86yes to the SD card, PS2 and GameCube can be hit or miss. May take tweaking depending on the games. And as for the hinge it should be fine now. They upgraded it recently. And as for the grip. Better safe then sorry. I didn't get it but thankfully I don't need to

    I feel like the clamshell space has room for more models that could make even better use of form. I'm personally waiting for a dual screen one that could emulate ds. Keep putting out great videos!

    • @adinwalls
      @adinwalls  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Well I heard Nintendo has a patent on the dual screen. If this is true I would imagine they’re going to hold onto that patent for as long as they can to limit the emulation of their games. That being said, NDS on the Flip is fantastic.

    • @KyleRuggles
      @KyleRuggles ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@adinwalls Not sure if you saw but Retro Handhelds did a video with a Microsoft Surface handheld dual screen and was able to do DS and 3DS like Nintendo, I think that's the only solution for the time being.

    • @bri1085
      @bri1085 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Problem with a dual screen device is that the use case is extremely specific, and 2 of the systems that could use dual screen 3DS and Wii U are hard to emulate.

    your content is great man! thanks so much for your guide on the retroid 3+/flip, it really helped me get everything up and running
    and yeah, while the video was playing I just ignored the parts about where to map the menu and emulator option buttons, the M1 and M2 buttons really did make that difference, and it's great that you love the flip as well!
    happy gaming dood!

    This was a very interesting review to watch! It was also very useful in the insight it gave to what choice i should make for buying a retro handheld. Overall after watching this I decided that in going to go through and buy the flip instead of the 3+. Great video!

    Hi Adin. Your guide helped me a lot with setting up my retroid pocket flip. However, this morning I plugged the charing cable in and leave it there for 30min and the battery percentage won’t budge (not charing), even though there’s the charging indicator. Do you run into the same issue?

    I used to have a flame red 3ds, I'm getting it even if i only use it for gba/android games.
    (Also, you could just use some duct tape and tape the grip to the console, or hot glue it if you're looking for a more permanent method)

    • @adinwalls
      @adinwalls  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmm. Ya I also like the Flip for the novelty and convenience of it. I also really like those analog triggers. But overall the RP3+ is the sturdier option… go with your gutt😊

  • @STR82DVD
    @STR82DVD 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The only difference is not just the active cooling. What about the analogue shoulder triggers which, correct me if I'm wrong, are not present in the Retroid Pocket 3 +. Analogue triggers make a huge difference when gaming, in particular, Cloud Gaming. I'd pick the Retroid Pocket Flip over my RP3+ Metal Edition all day long for Cloud Gaming.

  • @AlexanderShepherd-cs8vp

      Well then why not consider the Anbernic R405M

  • @vhsretrogamer1664
    @vhsretrogamer1664 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First I wasnt' sure about it, then I kinda hated it - squeaky dpad that is also way too stiff, viewing angles, triggers hard to press too.. But then it just became my to go console when being lazy in bed. Viewing alnles while laying down are pretty good, also it doesn't need any case for it since it's clamshell. Just pick it up and play, and then just close it, put away and that's it. Wish it had wireless charging though.
    PS: I actually like those sliders. I was able to play some Silent Scope and it felt pretty accurate when shooting. RP3+ thumbsticks were just bad for this kind of precise aiming.

    Getting the black flip and its still on the way. The flip price is should be more expensive than the 3+ but funny enough because of inflation and rarity at my place the flip becoming more cheaper by around 30$ and also the reason i am getting the flip instead of 3+

    I really like mine in theory but in practice it is my most useless handheld, for one reason. Sleep mode is essentially non-functional. The device aabsolutely plummets battery life in sleep mode unless you close all apps first. Which makes sleep essentially useless.
    I use my handhelds in small spurts. Play for 10 min, put down, 10 hrs later play for another 20 min, put down.
    This device was dead SO MANY TIMES after being in sleep for not very long. All my other handhelds can be in sleep for days or weeks with minimal drain.
