      Piper P it isn’t all the hating. Because as Dennis prager himself stated, having someone whose clearly right leaning but consistently presents themselves as centrist or classic liberal is more useful to their narratives than a right leaner or centrist conservative who simply states theyre conservative. It’s the fact that he isn’t as honest as he claims about how he politically classifies. or that it’s irrelevant even if he is a classical liberal, if his platform, audience and funding all largely come from the right. This wolf in sheep’s clothing (right leaner in central left clothing) allows the likes of Dennis prager to tout him around as evidence of the rights political tolerance and be like “see, even a liberal that hates the left” that’s stronger than a conservative who’s already against leftist ideals. @@canoli8 I usually enjoy listening to Jordan Peterson. My problem with him, however, is that he to some degree perfectioned the art of elaborately saying nothing. Many of his statements are perfectly right but carefully avoid demonstrating any solutions.
      Since he doesn't suggest any solutions, interviewers often try to read between the lines to project political statements to his words - and, since Peterson is smart, they obviously fail doing that.
      However, this kind of non-statements lead to audiences projecting their own views into Peterson's words and feeling confirmed if he again "destroys" (not his own words) some journalist.
      If Peterson states that there a differences between men and women, people feel strengthened in their mysogynistic prejudice. If Peterson states that people should care about themselves before they try to care about the others, people feel strengthened in their libertarian ideas. If he states, that christianity shaped the modern western society, people feel strengthened in their religious beliefs.
      Of course, Peterson didn't say and didn't intend any of that. But nevertheless he strengthens those viewpoints by being too unspecific to disprove them.

      I understand that on a general level. However, a lot of comments he makes, without giving the prescriptive statements you accurately say are lacking, he'll conclude with a verbally stated absence of a solution. Is it stirring the cauldron of rising misogyny? Maybe. Not sure.
      Peterson will state a truth, which he probably thinks to be innocuous, he's come across through his studies. Then, he will say something tantamount to, "Well, I dunno wat todo abote et, eh? I'm jost saeying that thes is true according to tha literahture!" I understand why this is somewhat problematic, and I would even argue that these scenarios are where the "that's not what I mint!" meme came from. He will state something that is more or less empirically true, not talk about it further, then default to the aforementioned Petersonism when pressed for that prescription.
      That being said, he makes prescriptive claims frequently, and I don't think you were saying that he never does. After all, his famed book is essentially 12 prescriptive claims. Nevertheless, there is a respective absence for those prescriptions regarding women (which is what I assume you were hinting at, by and large).

      @mikeisapro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Maybe. But I see a trend over decades in the U.S. of everything shifting more to the right, especially the more established the thing in question is. In mass media, in economics, in politics, in voices heard and broadcast to the majority of people, the actual left is marginalized and the right has dominated. Perhaps because the system itself, neoliberalism or maybe fundamentally corporatism via capitalism itself is right-authoritarian, and probably only right-authoritarian (like IBM dealing with Hitler) because it's more profitable than dealing with governments that are democratic or liberal libertarians that are less likely to allow the few to keep hoarding all the money without worrying about representing the masses. Liberal libertarians are also less likely to support wars, foreign intervention, or the fueling of the "military industrial complex" than right-authoritarians or their apologists. Most outlets and both parties are thoroughly right-wing, it's now a matter of one being hard right and the other being off the spectrum.
      In any case, I'm sure it's _possible_ that someone like Rubin could transition away from the right, but it doesn't make any sense in his case to me given the apparent affiliation of large portions of his audience, which have been shifting rightward just as surely as the two parties and the big media have shifted.

    • @pedroocm
      @pedroocm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@mikeisapro Yeah, it's worrying to see such shift occur so rapidly. Here on youtube, I'm hopeful for the insurgence of leftist content, even tho the left continues to be heavily marginalized in the actual political discourse. Maybe that right shift has to do with the rise of corporativism as you said.

    • @mikeisapro
      @mikeisapro 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@pedroocm I believe it's been happening for the last 40-50 years really, since the neoliberal period starting with late Carter and really taking off with Reagan and beyond. The 80s also saw propaganda in mass media become significantly more effective.
      Although there is at least this "new left" resurgence, and the word socialism is becoming less of a pejorative, the big money which is funneled into big media, both political parties, etc. is overtly right wing and is pretty dominant in the country regardless of the attitudes and beliefs and perspectives of the growing number of the working poor citizens, who are disenfranchised, disorganized and marginalized effectively enough for their cause not to matter much.

    My guess for Rubin is that come the time of the 2020 election, no matter who the Democrats put forward, even if theyre the most dull centrist candidate, Rubin will lump them into "The crazy far left" and will stick with Trump. @@Pipervojta Bernie would handily kick Trump's ass, unless you're trying to make the point that Americans on average, are likely to reelect the incumbent president regardless of how awful a candidate they are, but somehow I doubt that was the case. If Democrats select a candidate like Bernie who can actually motivate their base (or as they're referred to in my neck of the woods, an "anti-Hillary") then Trump is as good as gone, but it's up in the air as to whether the establishment will win out this early in the primary season, obviously. Regardless, I'm of the singularly spicy hot take that Biden could beat Trump if he wins the primary, but to say none of the current candidates could beat Trump just shows an ignorance of the political realities of the left\moderate mechanics at work in the Democratic party today. I mean, Hillary "superpredators" Clinton beat Trump by 3 million votes, Biden could do it in his sleep, even if he had to out-grope Mr "grab em by the pussy" to do it.

The thing that really made me finally just leaving those channels and unsubscribing was on most part the repetitive content more or less the same type of "crazy sjws" that don't really hold any power, the messaging being more and more towards being conservative, dumb takes to appear smart, and finally when promising to criticize Trump, the same people not doing it.

    I watched The Rubin Report with a relatively open mind the first season, and while the repeated usage of regressive and anti-left sentiment was clear, I did actually start to believe that there was a genuine large scale issue with a segment of the left pushing a brand of restrictive identitarian and authoritarian politics. Of course, the message did not line up and it was very quick to see that he was conflatating the weaponized identity politics from the liberal establishment, with the left of center concern for social injustices -and how he by doing this essentially eliminated any concern for social structures . I think it is quite clear at this point that this is not ignorance, but a very conscious choice to propagandize for a hard right worldview.

    Its interesting to look back at this era. From 2014 to 2016 I was watching most of these guys' content out of curiosity. Dave Rubin, Milo, PJW, Sargon, etc. I would watch live streams of Milo's college tours too. Then I realized I was being pulled into the echo chamber so I left just after Trump got elected. The way they all used dog whistle terms to attract alt right and other right wing viewers with prejudice and racist beliefs and politics was something I didn't realise till later. Complaining about SJWs, PC Culture, and feminism is so old and played out to me now. People just need to go outside and interact with others. Lay off the reddit forums and discord. These outlets fooled a lot of people, including myself, into thinking that there was some kind of fucking culture war and war against boys that a call to action must be made. I'm ashamed, truly ashamed. I've also realised just how impressionable these right wing/alt right people are. You could make up a chart or stat about how in say 2020 half of the US or Europe will be Islam and post it all on these forums and sites that they frequent and watch em believe and eat that shit up. @@outcasthavoc417I highly suggest you read a bit into the history surrounding the Nazi party and the Weimar Republic. Authoritarianism isn't a left or right wing ideology. Restricting freedom of press is similarly not left or right. Notice Trumps constant berating of any media he disagrees with. Gun control was in no way to control the people in the Nazi Germany. The average German supported Hitler or at least didn't oppose the Nazi regime. Gun control was almost entirely imposed on enemies of the state such as Jews and communists. I don't think I have to say this but people advocating gun control laws today are advocating the laws for everybody not just a minority. Even if Jews had taken up arms at the time it would have done little to change history because the whole system including the military (who swore allegiance directly to Hitler) was set up to allow for Hitler's ultimate goal to take place.
      Nazis were very much a right wing party. But what I also think is important to recognise is Hitler didn't care about political ideology unlike others in his party. Some in the party were actually socialist such as Gregor Strasser who was killed in the knight of long knives carried out by the SS to eliminate enemies of Hitler such as the leader of the SA and Gregor Strasser who both had socialist leaning tendencies. The Nazi party did actually have a socialist wing but Hitler hated this side of his party hence him murdering the proponents of what we may call socialist ideas. This whole argument is very nuanced and any expert on the issue such as actual historians will tell you Hitler and the Nazi party was right wing. It isn't however very fruitful comparing 1930s Germany with our political spectrum today because Hitler didn't care about any actual policies. He was motivated by power and wanted to draw support from as many groups as possible eg rich industrialists and capitalists, women, middle class families, WW1 veterans and in particular workers who would have previously supported the communist party or at least the social democrats in the Weimar Republic. He did this through a range of political decisions and propaganda the primary one being the blaming of basically every problem in Germany at the time on Jews and the communists. Btw he completely banned trade unions so that gives you a taste of the Nazi parties true intentions in regards to the worker.
      Because the whole issue is much more complex then many present it as and I definitely cannot get close to doing the topic justice in a short comment I suggest you do your own research. This video by an actual German person addresses the whole notion of Hitler was left wing or a socialist : th-cam.com/video/hUFvG4RpwJI/w-d-xo.html

Being a former leftist who changed sides is extremely valuable to the right because he brings a lot of people with him, and that's worth big money to the alt right. Therefore your slowly shifting picture doesn't quite paint the right picture. I'm sure he's been a "pipeline" for some people, but let's not kid ourselves. Many of his original audience were far-right twits to begin.
