Of course we need to define what Western means, I'm assuming "white" but don't know for sure.
People in Latin America have been trying to preserve indigenous languages and understand their dynamic social-relationships, especially of Meso-America but also across the continent, as European colonists suppressed the culture of indigenous people.

There are actions and beliefs in some cultures, that I think are entirely appropriate to criticize and therefore could be seen as disrespectful. Personally, I would focus on the individual ideas that I felt were worthy of criticism not a whole culture - but it wouldn't take some other people long to point out that those ideas, beliefs or rituals, map to a culture and therefore declare that one shouldn't "disrespect" them.

So, in a way, algebra was discovered by mathematicians in what is Iraq (and given something like the name we recognise today), only after it had been discovered earlier in India - even further east of the UK. However, perhaps without the understanding of great mathematicians in the Middle East, this branch of maths may have taken much longer to reach the far reaches of Europe.

Scientists believe that early mathematical functions, like addition and division, can be traced back to the Chinese, Indus, Mesopotamian, and Egyptian civilizations. The oldest clay tablets of mathematics are at least 4,000 years ancient, starting in Mesopotamia, and the oldest written findings on mathematics were Egyptian papyruses.

I'm just a mechanic, and a graduate of the NYC public school system but isn't it because of the "First peoples, First nations, Aboriginal peoples, Native peoples, Indigenous natives, or Autochthonous peoples" early European colonies survived their 1st winters and learned to harvest the local crops like corn beans and squash and the reason we celibate Thanksgiving? The Mayan and Aztec cultures built mighty cities in the Americas. it seems too easy for Mr. Murray to discount their contributions.

The settler-colony US also lifted the macro "balance of powers" thing for its constitution from the from the Iroquois's Great Law of Peace, but you know, still "savages" apparently...gotta genocide them and steal their land since they haven't "mixed their labor with it" by our arbitrary Lockean standards, breaking essentially every treaty made with them because they're just so...savage...you know? Definitely not the epitome of irony/grotesque brutality or anything...
But seriously, the late great David Graeber/David Wengrow's The Dawn of Everything I hear illuminates a far more essential role of these indigenous tribes toward creating those supposed "western values" in the first place.
_"The first man who, having fenced in a piece of land, said 'This is mine', and found people naïve enough to believe him, that man was the true founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars, and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes, or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows: Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody."_ - J.J. And that if the people on the opposing side are not polite, why do they have to be? Then the commentators go misinterpret him and insult him. You are kind of proving his point. Also, he is not saying other cultures haven’t achieved anything, he’s saying the West has given us plenty of things that first nations have not, starting for an interest in other cultures. That's because the very notion of the west was corrupted by a certain group, who happen to play a big role in neoconservatism, the branch of politics that Murray is paid to advocate for. The West became a simile for 'countries within America's sphere of influence', and naturally includes the US's greatest ally of all. It is evident that this idea is antithetical to the true west, its people, history, culture etc as its primary purpose has been to control and decimate Europe since it entered the war in 1941.
