I find ot fascinating how they pit this much effort and detail into a sequel that most people don't know of or won't play (like me lol) I have Fes on my ps3. I honestly think the game ended perfect without the answer
I like The Answer because I beat The Journey and I was like "wait what??? What exactly just happened? I have questions." And then The Answer was like "I have answers."
The ending isn’t really what’s important; What’s important regarding the remake is that the missing Answer is essentially a whole other sequel game that takes place after Persona 3, as well as the fact they didn’t add back the female protagonist from Portable, who changes the story drastically and is a fan favourite character. Unfortunately ATLUS didn’t do what a lot of people, including myself wanted them to do with a remake; make it so you don’t need to play Persona 3 FES The Journey (or Reload/Portable Male MC), Persona 3 Portable as the female MC, and then Persona 3 FES - The Answer to get the full story, meaning you have to buy and play at least 2 - now likely 3 separate games, one of which isn’t even available to buy anymore. The Answer also does not change the ending of Persona 3, after the main character dies, he/she remains dead throughout the entirety of TA, it was actually not explicitly stated in TJ that you died when you closed your eyes, but TA clarifies that, and its entire story revolves around the characters grieving the loss of the main character, the ??? boss is a shadow form basically created by the cast’s inability to accept that he/she is dead and they have to move on from him/her.
Well, by technicality, the persona's don't have names. The persona is the users shadow given form based on whatever which game is based on (3 is death, 4 is hope or taking back future, and 5 is rebellion) And because the persona's form is based on figures through the collective unconscious (took me a while to understand wtf that was), it takes the name of that person. Eg: joker (p5/r), he is a phantom theif and has a rebellious spirit stronger than the rest (and he's the mc), so he has Arsène, a fictional character who is also a phantom theif in his book of origin. So based on who each person is, technically they knew their persona's names from birth. If you can't take that answer, then it can be simply boiled down to "being told by Philemon or Nyartholotep" whichever is on the side of good in these games. I don't have solid evidence for most of this, but it is what i remember based on things I've read (in game and on websites). But again, the persona isn't actually the person they're named after, they just take that person's form. The persona is the user hidden self (in one way or another) I hope this helps you understand a bit better (if at all)
I think everyone gets told their Persona's names after awakening and we just don't hear it (well P5 does let us hear it) "I am Orpheus, master of strings." And the fused Personas also introduce themselves in the Velvet Room.
