If I understand this right, Nyx and Erebos are not evil creatures. Nyx has the power to bring death but has no purpose or meaning to do that. Erebos on the other hand was formed from human desire to bring death and that may have given it purpose to fulfil those desires. It can't do it on it's own though so it needs to have Nyx in order to unleash death. Minato used the Universe Arcana (the power of so many if not al people) to block Erebos. Perhaps the universe arcana can destroy Erebos then...
they are Unkillable sure the universe arcana could destroy them but they will come back since it’s the humans is what bringing them back, they can be beaten but never truly stopped unless humanity dies or change their mind
They're both concepts that don't take a physical form. Nyx is death while erebus is the desire for death, during the battle of nyx and minato you could see that even when he obtained the universe arcana he was still no match for nyx it's the bonds that strengthened the power of the universe the desire of the people to live that helped sealed nyx. Just like erebus who is powered and born from desires for death what's preventing erebus is the seal which is powered by people's desire to live.

Succumbing to weakness is always the easiest way, but never the right one. When faced with life without purpose we, as humans, seek an easy answer because there's no pillar to support us unless its the solace where we, as humans, have the ability to start over.
I think p3's storyline is the best RPG's storyline. It's so close with real life, especially for high school student like me ^^ both sad and touching, but you can feel the joy too ^^ perfect storyline!
It's a poetic way of pointing out humanity's tendency to take the easier way out. "This is too hard, I'm not gonna bother attempting it." The supernatural forces in the series, like Nyx and Izanami, are taking this to the ultimate logical (but perhaps unreasonable) conclusion.
*Erebus swings its limb at group, then waits a full two minutes of dialogue before attacking again* Nice to know the collective embodiment of malice is kind enough to allow us a heartfelt speech about stuff XD
yeah, i love the storyline. perfect story line i think. i feel like a hero when the MC -the character i played- died to save the entire world. isn't that great? ^_^
It has to be Minato because he is without a body and mind and vice versa. The only thing defending the SEES and Investigation Team against Nyarlethotep is, ironically, their souls. Aiges is a simulacrum, her body artificial. Yu already has all three parts of his entity. Nyarlethotep thrives on the malice and hate of humanity, and as such he can manipulate a person solely on their iniquities.
The good and the evil in humanity are generally equal. They were major characters in the first two Persona games. Minato took the fall because, well, it was his role as a self-sacrificing hero. Hell, look at his Ultimate Persona, Messiah, for proof of that.
@Hiraxelc Kinda late, but you're right, Erebus is NOT a Shadow. Erebus is the manifestation of all the dark desires within the hearts of all humanity in Persona 3; those people wish for the world to end for various reasons, and all those dark desires come together to form Erebus, who then can awaken Nyx, and thus brings about the Fall. Fun fact is that in Greek Mythology, Nyx, the Goddess of the Night is the wife of Erebus, the personification of Darkness. (Erebus also translates to Darkness)
For people wondering Erubus is the manifest of any wish for death it's not just people who are would of been currently wanting death it's a wish for death at any time in someone's life that creates it and everyone wishes for death even if it's very slightly and just for a moment at least once in their life.
@Kageravager Well, either way it showed more will from her side. Nix just grants a desire, while Izanami made a conscious decision based on the test she set up. Not to mention she constantly pushed the Hero to see if he wasn't all talk, even pretty much congratulating him for his unbreakable spirit. That shows she had a strong will who actually wanted to help mankind , unlike the simplistic Nix who could only grant death.
@DemeMemorias I'm thinking its the theory that of us living through our friends' memories of us, even once we're gone. As they learned more about themselves, and came to realize their uncertainty of the future, they relied on him, like before. This is supported by Aigis' awakening, she didnt want to lose a friend, she didn't want to hurt again. So she called out to him for help, and his being was able to give her Orpheus, to carry on his will to protect everyone, and make them happy.
Such a freekin good game man this has to be close to my favorite game ever. Just beat the answer (hard as hell) and now ima replay the journey in all its glory

On the other hand Izanami proactively nudges humans forward into the fog, almost like a test of will for mankind. In that way Nix was more pure and objective than Izanami who seemed to be enjoying humanity's struggle.
He does, however, appear in the remake of EP via Eriko's flashback. The only one who isn't mentioned nor doesn't appear in Persona 2 OR 3 is Yuka Ayase.

@dragonquest8ftw1 Well, it is true that each Shadow was a part of 1 single human while Erebus was the combined despair of the human race. Perhaps what they really meant by "He's not a Shadow" was that he had trascended the scale of Shadows and become a more pure entity like Nyx. The First Persona revolves around a city named Mikage, nine students of St. Hermelin are Persona users by the "Persona" game and end up meeting Philemon. After that, during a hospital visit to see one of their friends, reality has been altered by a machine called the DEVA system by a man named Takihisa Kandori (Who's on Persona as well.), using Maki Sonomura (1 of the students of said school) The students go on a quest to defeat Kandori and restore Mikage to normal.

I'm just giving you a summary of the plot of the first Persona game. Anyway, at the end, they fight Pandora, who is said to manifest Maki's Nihilism, in Avidya World. After Pandora is defeated, The "Ideal" Maki sends them back to their world except for the Protagonist (Naoya) to confess her love to him, then send him back. Mikage is saved, and they graduate.
Wasn't Death/Ryoji the one who was supposed to bring forth Nyx? Or will Death only appear once Erebus has already awoken her? I thought they said it was the Kirijo scientists who were responsible. Maybe it was their seeking to bring about The Fall that finally pushed the level of human malice over the top and created Erebus?
@Hiraxelc Actually that confused me a little too. They said that it wasn't a shadow yet Persona 4 clearly states that Shadows come from people's heart. If Ereberus is the malice of people's hearts then by definition it should be a Shadow. Persona 4's explanation also explains better why the shadows have always been around. Sure, they help expedite Nix's appaerance, but that's merely because they express the hidden desire of death that all human's hide in their hearts.
well in a way both view are right, as we humans drive to be better in everything we are also sacrificing, thus we long for an end to pain such as war, debt, loneliness etc: but we also use the fear of death as a way to overcome certain things and to help others. (just my view but i think both reasons a very valid and true).
While I don't remember the plot of the first Persona, I'm fairly certain that Tatsuya (and Maya, and the rest of their party, for that matter) would be useless, since they had to wipe their memories.
@LeonGun8 it wasn't that izanami enjoyed the struggle rather when she empowered adachi and namatane, she obsereved, considered, and reached a choice based on the actions of those two. she had thoght humanity wanted a world where the solid barrier between reality and image was broken.

@LeonGun8 true, save one point. both of them were prompted to action by humans weren't they? nix was the oresman who march humans to death because deep down so many people were sick of living. izanami is a little more complex though. out of the 3 people we know she awakened, 2 of them had brought the 'fog' to their world and izanami just went with the majority... until she got ass handed to her by seta souji XD

Everyone who has ever desired death, anyone who has ever wanted the end to come. If you consider that rather than maliciousness, it actually represents unhappiness it makes more sense.
I've never heard of anyone who doesn't like Aigis...
So I'm pretty sure you're not the only one!
I Love Junpei at this time, he is only could be right, right now xD
@LeonGun8 true, save one point. both of them were prompted to action by humans weren't they? nix was the oresman who march humans to death because deep down so many people were sick of living. izanami is a little more complex though. out of the 3 people we know she awakened, 2 of them had brought the 'fog' to their world and izanami just went with the majority... until she got ass handed to her by seta souji XD
There are people everyday wishing for death and want to die. Those are the ones that usually commit suicide or have at least tried or thought about it. Not everyone likes reality.

The Oracle keeps repeating itself
Destroy That Freak, How Dare He try to Destroy Minato.
