I just got a 2024 z71 coming from a 21 z71. I really liked my 21 but i needed more payload. 1200lb on the 21 to 1550 on the 24. I gotta say my 24 is so much more comfortable and imo better build quality no rattling and just feels more solid. Very happy now with my choice.
Trail boss should've been a package instead of a trim.

I am 5'8 and have sat in the back of a Colorado for a 2 hour road trip, driver was 6'1… I was surprisingly comfortable.
I think the biggest issues I have of the new Colorado, what is with the incandescent front turn signals on a 50k truck or car. There is no excuse to NOT have integrated switchback LED front DRL/ signal illumination.
Other issue I haver is all the high gloss plastic trim, this is again 2023… brushed and matte finish is what is trending.
I don't think the light control is an issue… just take some time to use it.

I just bought 2024 TB, and I really like it. The headlights are disappointing but manageable (just installed better bulbs). The missing physical headlight switch is sad, especially if the electronic system fails or gets damaged.
As for the interior... Yes, the truck is spendy, and you may want higher end materials. However, it's a truck, a truck meant for off-road / play. Plus some of those fancy features in the Z71 and ZR2 are unnecessary, you dont need heated seats or dual zone climate in a truck - that's just bloat making vehicles more expensive.
I’m going for comfort…the silver one has my vote.
Great in-depth video highlighting the differences. The video helped give me a better perspective on the features each model offers and what I'd like to have in my next vehicle. Thank you! One thing I wish GM would have left the cup holders alongside the shifter instead of tucked back towards the console.

Trail boss I think looks nicer with the lift which make it more capable off road. Better headlights & fog lights option would be nice. Interior is cheap. They could have put some soft padding at least on the arm rest. Z71 interior is much nicer. No physical headlight switch is a stupid change IMO. If you're not off road much I'd get the Z71 myself.

Looking back on this, I think you'd get used to it... But it is something that would take an adjustment.
I like the look of the TB so much better. Just wish I could pull in the Canyon interior.

One think I like is they still have a stick or lever to swich gears. Hinda Ridge line is buttons and I think Ford ranger is a knob. I was looking to test the Frontier until this one caught my attention. Looking for a pick up for 2024 but I am starting doing some research, good rewiew
Thanks for watching! Yeah I think GM did a good job with these. There are a few odd packaging decisions when it comes to which options are in what trim, but having owned a previous Colorado, I can confidently say that these are a great step up from the previous generation.
Interesting how the old model had higher revs to get more torque like an inline 4 Ninja, versus this newer truck with lower revs for more torque power like the parallel twin Ninja 650.

Z71, 700 miles on it. I watched other tubers say to turn off updates for certain things due to dead battery. I did that , no problems. Couple of glitches with infotainment but they have cleared up. First 100-500 miles truck seemed to idle high at times but as time and break in occurs, truck is starting to really come into place. I got on it for the first time yesterday and she hauls , gonna do some light trails next week. I def would rather the 2.7 Turbo Plus in this rather than the 1500. Back seat is tight.
I wonder in a few years if you will be able to get a Z71 with the Trail Boss pkg like the full size trucks
It's interesting because in the full size trucks, the Z71 was always a package. While in the previous generation, the Z71 is a trim. I think they're going to keep things like this moving forward with those things being trims, not packages.
Those headlights switching on with the computer sounds like an issue for sure, good point.

why does the z71 quite a bit bigger than the trailboss?
When looking at the front end of the trucks it appears the 3-in wider stance that the trail boss has is put into the fenders which would make the headlights not fit
Hmmm... I'll have to take a second look at these to see if you're right. That could be... but still, they need to upgrade the lighting. These vehicles cost too much to not have price competitive lighting.

Chevy really laid an egg with headlights on the trailboss.
I get what they were thinking. Create a stripped down model that still looks great, but I'm 100% with you. The headlights should have been the same as the Z71 model.

Touch screen for headlights alone might keep me from buying, but nice looking trucks.
I feel better about it seeing as they default to on. But it's definitely not intuitive. I always try to look at things like an owner and not a reviewer, because when a reviewer has a vehicle for a day or a week, they get caught complaining about things that an owner will adapt to, and I'm sure that's the case here, but it's still odd to me.
The headlights aren't a big deal. Honestly it's just as easy as the gen 2 but now you don't have to reach down by your knee. There's a button on the main screen. Ppl blowing the headlight thing out of proportion.
The Trail Boss looks way better,,,my TB is same color as that Z71 !
It’s because of the stance, 2inch lift, 3inch wider track and black wheels! I know a guy that bought a blue 2023 Z71 but wanted the TB instead but they are really hard to find, he paid over 50k I payed 41k and he was jealous over my truck with he cheaper interior cause he also likes the TB looks better!
I love the truck. I own a ZR2 Diesel. But the idea that you get a physical for the lights made me look elsewhere.
I wouldn't look elsewhere because of the light switch, I just find it an interesting decision. I would have figured that you'd be looking elsewhere with the diesel no longer being available in the new models.

I believe you can. It's probably best to check your local Chevrolet website. Things may be different in Canada (where I film) and other places around the world.
Besides the lift what’s the big differences between the work truck (wt) and the trail boss?
The Trail Boss is an appearance package, so I'm not sure that I could answer every single specific thing, but at the end of the day, as I read between the lines of what you're asking, I think you're right, the Trail Boss is not a high spec vehicle, but it looks great in person!
I agree looks great. I just don’t need the off-road capability, but don’t want to pay 40k so was hoping the WT was similar to the trail boss
@@BryonCombs there would definitely be SOME similarities. I just don't have an exhaustive list.
The TB is not just lifted. The suspension is 2” taller and 3” wider giving much better performance. In the drive train you get the G80 locking rear differential. This not only gives better traction, but also a larger towing capacity. The TB also has 4WD low for better off road performance. You can add the better engine and locking rear diff, and 4WD lo to the WT for more money. But then just get the TB. Most of the higher price is in performance. It’s not an appearance package, but the flared wheel wells and wider and higher stance sure looks good. And knowing it’s because of performance is a cool feeling.
Before you called that out on how you say Z71 I was going to ask are you saying ZED? And why that is. All good.
That's what Canadians call the Z71 and ZR2 they'll have to explain why because I don't know why

Hey, I don't make the rules, English was started long before I came along, and long before America came along. American's changed it to Zee, most of the English speaking world still says Z. I film in Canada, and these are Canadian Spec trucks, so these are Zed, not Zee.

I will Never Understand why Chevy won't offer the High Country trim in the Colorado, other than some think that the Z71 is Good Enough.
So, my question would be, why do you want a trim to be named High Country? What features are you looking for in that trim? In general, automakers tweak what is in certain packages in order to give a good mix of features compared to the competition. Often packages can change, and it's very common for automakers to add a trim a year or two after the initial release of the vehicle.
Keep in mind option packages have to offer value to a consumer, profit for the dealer and manufacturer, compete well on features and price with the competition, AND leave just enough out to entice people up the line to a more profitable trim or more profitable vehicle up the family tree.
A lot of thought does go into these decisions, and they're not always customer focused.

I agree. I just ordered a 2024 Z71. Wanted the TB but interior is to basic. I will be doing a 2" lift and negative offset wheels when it comes in.
The whole thing is a deal breaker. It's a work truck with a lift for $40k+ lol

I film in Canada where we say Zed like most of the rest of the English speaking world. I find it interesting that it bothers so many Americans when people from other countries pronounce words correctly for where they're from. I have yet to have an American explain to me why the rest of the world needs to speak like an American when Americans are the ones that changed the language. 😉

You definitely got something’s wrong. You can’t upgrade the base motor. You can a lot of features through packages on the Trail Boss. I have blind spot on mine. I have on Chevy’s for awhile and never use the light switch. It’s always on auto.
I don’t think he was saying you could upgrade the motor, it seemed like he was saying you could upgrade the tuning if that makes sense. The truck is shipped with slightly lower power numbers but the dealer could, for a fee, tune the motor fairly easily without upgrading the entire power train.
be ware i have own 2 chevy colorado 2017 many problems and now 2020 z71 off road power steering fall while i was driving radiator fan working nonstop i have only 32000 miles
I had a transmission issue with my 2018. But those problems are not related to this updated model. And if we're really honest, every single review that I do can have people commenting where someone has had a bad experience with the brand. Cars break. People know that. But again, your issues are with a completely different model truck.
Biggest issue: using a 4 banger in a truck. Too small.
Is it though, or is that just our old way of thinking shining through? I used to think the same thing, but let's not kid ourselves, anyone pulling near max towing capacity of this truck on a regular basis isn't going to be buying this truck. This allows people to take that camper or boat on any vacation they want, but use the truck for light duty work the rest of the year. We also can't pretend like engine technology hasn't developed over the past decade or more. Any vehicle may develop problems, but this entire class has moved to 4 cylinder turbo engines, and while there may be engineering issues that pop up in the future, there's no good reason to blame it purely on being a 4 cylinder. A well designed modern 4 cylinder is more than enough. HUGE busses and motorhomes have been driving on 6 cylinders for a long time. Modern 4 cylinder engines can do the job if they're designed well.

@@jonchase7752 I agree that they're doing it because they have to. Where I disagree is the the engines are too small. V8 engines are as much marketing as they are requirements... I stand by my position, but what I'm not saying is that you have to agree with me. I do believe that there is good evidence to support what I'm saying though.

The Trail Boss is a joke to me. They market the thing like it's a high end trim and performance package when it's really a bottom end feature set that looks kinda cool and badass. Suburban dad's will fall for the Trail Boss package every time so I guess it makes business sense to slap a tough name and look onto a base level model but any real truck owner knows the Z71 is far superior and the pricing difference is negligible.
No, Chevy doesn’t market it like it’s a high end trim. Not sure I’ve seen a single advertisement like it’s a ZR2 Bison-type truck…None of these trucks are all that expensive anyways. Suburban Dads will buy the Z71 or ZR2 and give it to their wife for Christmas, like I just did.

One thing I hate on these trucks is the faux camo textures in the interior. Not used all over the thing but that's the kind of thing that will age very poorly. Reminds me of trendy looking 90s textures from cars back then that look so old and gross 10 years on. Horrible choice by Chevy. I would even go so far as to call it tacky.
