    Its great to see the advancement from my early days in dairy farming;
    That the farmers/ranchers concerns regarding the health of the cattle, both bulls and cows, is stìll top priority. It's not hard to see why the oppspring of animal farmers have a healthy knowledge of ALL aspects of farm animals and their health & reproduction when it's kept within the normal scheme of things. I'm happy for you and Damaris to be raising a family on the farm/ranch. It truly is a much healthier environment to raise kids in and to continue to add those generations of knowledge to the world's food supply. The videosca yearbold but everything you cover is still relevant today.
    May the Ranch and Multi-generations of the Sleep Ranch continue to grow and be blessed by our living & loving Creator and Redeemer Almighty God the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit. A farmers daughter and land girl from way back; born a Kiwi, but living in Aussie , a Mum & Nana. 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏✌️👍👊👏❤️🇺🇲

    In case someone did not understand that is 34 centimeters not inches or the bull would not walk very easy. Good education about the care for your livestock for non farmers but also the people that think farmers are rich because of what they pay at the store; it is good for them to see you have many expenses in a year to keep a healthy herd. So many 10 year old jokes about plumbing and things but this is not an Andrew Dice Clay show. Seems like Houdini has the other bulls under control, he must be happier having others around now. Hope you guys stay safe and healthy.

    We consumers of steak, as well as other beef products, have no idea what goes into producing our favorite main course.
    This is fascinating.
    A question I have here is ... How often do you have steak for dinner? Or other beef products?

    Hi Carson, watching your video reminded me we better get our bulls done. How many bulls do you run? When you started to put the bulls together up in the hillls there was a bull to your right, he looked a good sort. Unfortunately the camera did not allow me a good look. The scrotal size we like to see 36 to 40 for a good working age bull. We don't like to buy bulls less than 34, does though depend on their age. I hope there is part 2 to this video. Have a great Easter, when I wrote this we were only a couple of hours until the grandkids get their Easter eggs, then they will be a couple of days high on chocolate. 🍫🍫 . From Down Under

    Do you ever keep some of new crop bull calves as bulls or do you castrate all bull calves ? Do you trade yearling or two year old bulls with any neighbors to bring in different genetics? Where do you get your bulls from ?

    • @sleepranch
      @sleepranch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions Paul, we don’t keep any of our Bull calves but we are flirting with the idea of buying some registered Simmental or Angus cows and then raising bulls for ourselves. We get our bulls from a variety of different places, a few more known places are the Thomas’s in Oneida, SD, Jorgensen land and Cattle and Amdahl Angus

    How do the bulls get STDs? Do the cows /heifers contribute to this?

    • @sleepranch
      @sleepranch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The most common way we would get and STD in our herd would be if an infected cow or Bull from a neighbors herd got in with ours when the cows are out on summer pasture. Or if we bought cows that were carriers of the disease!

    • @cherylmillard2067
      @cherylmillard2067 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sleepranch, Thank you for replying, this is Interesting, can you vaccinate against some of these STDs, and what are they, a herpes virus, spirochetes or bacterial infection? I find animal medicine fascinating.

    Why not call it " The Clap" That is what we use to call STD

    • @badgerpa9
      @badgerpa9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The clap is syphilis, after you have it untreated for years you need to clap hard and push to have a bowel movement. The clap is the old prison term for it prior to having treatment to stop venereal diseases. It is not all STDs.

    • @theheartoftexas
      @theheartoftexas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      “The Clap” is not syphilis, it’s gonorrhea. You had to clap down hard on the penis to break up and expel the pus in the urethra so that you could urinate.
