As someone who plays and sings gospel I always go and talk to the sound person I'm always very polite and respectful to the sound man or sound person. Because they can make or break your show.

A good conversation that i have never heard from anyone in production until now. I run a midsize construction and machine rental company. Every day i have to factor in numbers when doing bids to remain profitable. Also to defend my company against bad contracts and look out for my ppl, reputation, and liability. So right on spot with this video🙏

Great info. Thank you. I definitely learned to "ask a lot of questions" it can make or break whether or not I want to even take on the job.

Yo Grumpy, just found your channel. Absolutely love your content and salty demeanor. Down to earth truth bombs you tell. Running a small sound/lighting co in the NY/CT area alongside of teaching band and orchestra. Finally someone keeping it real from a pro musicians point of view and engineer production point of view. Keep up the great topics….✌️

Was going to message you about this. Thanks. Some times I feel like I’m not charging enough. Especially the 9-1am gigs. I’m in NJ/Philly.

Pricing is all relative to your demand, and reputation. I know guys in Baltimore working for 25% of what I charge to do the same venues. If your someone people want to work with they will pay your price.

@@thegrumpysoundguy you’re right though. Going to do a show for $400 at times cost me more. We’re talking 4 PA’s, 2 subs, 4 monitors, all mic’s.

Fantastic Video brother...Keep it Up! My Mentor needs to watch this...(cause he'd be giving me the 'side eye' the entire time, quietly saying.."..see, I told ya.." ..)

My bassist and brother @JimNoble (DigDeepBass) turned me on to this guy. I cannot stress enough how legit JR is…I really hope that all mid-market musicians get real and understand the wisdom this guys is preaching. He’s coming from 35+ yrs of experience and I’ve never heard anyone in my 36 yrs of live music experience put himself out there like this. This guy is exceptional IMHO. ❤

I'm a $300 to $500 guy. I work alone with a small system. I would never compete with anyone at your level. The local "Pros" love me for that. I have my niche with no intent of stepping out of it.

The amount of times the venue or band claims there is “enough” power…ugh.
