Great video! And yeah GPU Audio is a great concept. Not quite dialed in yet with many plug but on it's way. Are you running your own DAW stuff on a PC or Mac? Love your vids!!! ❤
Hey great video!! You might want to make sure you put your RAM from each kit into alternating slots. I'm not sure if you did that, but it appears in the video you go slot 1 -> 2 -> 3 ... and what you should do for optimum performance is for each 2 pack of RAM you do Slot 1 & 3 in a pair, and then slot 2 & 4 in a pair. Hope that helps!
I have a very similar set up to yours. Same CPU, I have the 1TB Samsung 980 Pro, and a 3080ti. The board is a an Gigabytes Aorus x570 Master. So it performs quite well. But, I noticed that Lunacy Audio’s Cube could cause some issues. Also, Arturia’s Augmented plugins could also be a bit heavy. I use Studio One.
Both Audio Cube and Augmented plugins are very heavy...I even noticed that on my Mac. I just tried a couple Augmented plugins on this new PC, and they are running very smoothly. Load time is actually faster than my Mac M1 Max.

Would it be possible for you to run LatencyMon to check the DPC latency on your PC? Low DPC latencies are important to avoid stuttering and interruptions in the playback of video and audio. It's an issue many people have, because certain key drivers are not optimized with DPC in mind (eg. graphics, wifi) and can cause issues when playing real-time audio in the DAW, even when the CPU is not under load.
Muy pocos hablan de este problema de latencia. Conoces alguna configuracion (procesador - tarjeta madre) que funcione bien sin problrmas de latencia DPC ??
Oh, yes, I remember Logic when it was Emagic, but furthermore I remember Notator, after Creator, when it was C-Lab...👴 One of these day I will restart my Atari ST 😉
for your Ableton benchmark you should have showed us the audio settings. Specifically Audio Rate and Buffer Size. Bigger buffer size means lower CPU usage. By default Ableton's buffer size is 512. Bring that down to 32 and rerun the benchmark. Now, if you stay only in the box you don't really care that much but if you throw some live instruments coupled with VSTs you want a low buffer. So how about you rerun your tests with the lowest buffer size your sound card supports and let us know how the PC is doing? My hunch is that you won't get past 30 tracks. Heck, even 20 will be much once you load a few instances of Omnisphere or Diva.
you should probably mount a fan or two at the back of the case to push the hot air out from inside the case. obviously the direction of the fans must be opposite to that of the fans mounted on the front. it is good practice.
Hey Sanjay! I’ve considered making a video like this because I challenged myself to build a music production PC and I took the risk of hoping to make a successful Intel Thunderbolt 4 system for modern Universal Audio Apollo units. And with tons of testing and tweaking I’ve got a fully working UA/Ableton rig, runs flawlessly with live streaming and gaming as well. There’s definitely some tricks to get a UA Windows system to run smoothly!
May I ask what combo of MoBo/CPU/interface/Windows you’re running? I’ve been lurking in the UAD forums as I’ve been researching a new build coming from a Win10 Intel 7700k system that’s worked with my Apollo x6 for years and years. The whole compatibility thing has had me on the fence!
@@HeinrichYoshio here ya go! After you follow all the UA instructions for windows adjustments, you’ll be good to go. Great to see pc content. You could reduce noise bu changing the fans of the case by noctua fans. The ones that come in the case they mostly noisy. Also, I see you measure some start up softwares. That will improve if you are using faster ssds. Try pcle5 ssds they will match or beat mac most likely.
My next build is going to be a Ryzen 7 5800x I think, I don't really need much more than that and it's a good price for what it is, nice build though, that case looks well cool! 😍
@@SanjayC probably similar to yours. I looked at those fans and that case when I built mine and they were all very similar in the noise department. Ended up with the BeQuiet DX500 case which is open on the front unlike most of their very quiet but also very hot running cases. It's almost silent and I can record vocals pretty much right next to it without any issues. The fans rarely spin up when I'm using Reaper. Mostly only when gaming. That ProArt motherboard is also excellent. I would encourage any viewers of your channel towards a build like what you showcased. I'm super happy with mine after about a years worth of use.
"Welcome to Circuit City: where service is state of the art." I think they also had one of the earliest examples of price matching as a policy that I ever saw.
Originally I was going to build a PC just for gaming but after seeing this I remembered that I wanted to build one for music production as well as gaming to upgrade from my current laptop. Thanks for the video!
I like the concept however I personally would've used a Fractal Define 7 case, replaced the stock fans with noctuas (2 front, 1 back), deshroud mod on the GPU (replaced with noctua fans). Could've also gotten a 1000w-1200w power supply which would be overkill but you'll never hear the fan turn on. And I don't know about you but having the case right next to your ear seems counterproductive for this line of work lol
Good video - expensive components. Windows, DAWS and plugins are extra. Linux Manjaro has the DAWS and plugins - they are free. Add a decent used PC and you have a scalable powerhouse without the snooping from Microsoft.
Good video I always build my own PCs for my studio and this was a genuinely sensible set of choices (OK, the 3080 is entirely overkill but hilariously good for gaming - I bet the GPU audio plugins wouldn't even make it break a sweat). I'm a huge fan of the Ryzen CPUs. The core count you get per $ is insanely good for this sort of workhorse PC.
@@SanjayCThat's cool, those 16 cores should be enough for intense projects too. I hear the i7 13700k provides great value at a lower price too. For my next music making computer (currently have a M1 Mac Mini) I'll probably get a mini PC from Minisforum that includes the latest Ryzen 9 CGU/iGPU and may have up to 64GB DDR5 RAM and multiple m2 nvme SSDs, for much less than a m2 Mac Mini.
Thanks, Fernando! I'd love to hear how your new setup performs when you have it
Hi there, please do comment for some advise on optimum specs on a budget .
Im planning to buy a laptop or maybe a PC for :
live multitrack recording from Presonus StudioLive 32ch mixer ( 24bit/48kz, 32ch ) and cleanup in Izotope RX plus mix it later on Studio One DAW with Waves, SSL and Brainworx plugins.
live recording in studio or stage session gonna be like 1 hr session at a time at least.
# its not gonna be like a professional polished mix that i can produce and sell. its for our band personal use.
That all-white look makes me think of Fairlight 2.0. Now all you need is the all-white linen suite with the bright purple tie. OH! Maybe that's the video for your next track.
Built my first computer about 2 years ago. I will NEVER buy a PC ever again... build everytime!
Another awesome ,informative video by the great Sanjay C! This guy is like the Bob Ross of music production. Yes, I'm old enough to remember Circuit City! I was sad they went out of business and still surprised Best Buy has lasted this long. Thank you this PC build video. I have been looking to get into PC building/gaming for sometime. It can be overwhelming but seems if you get the right parts for what you need, it's not that bad. A custom laptop build would be interesting.
I got a Trigkey Mini PC for 380€. Ryzen 5800h, 32GB, 1 TB M.2.
40tracks of audio, vsti's, vst's. Doesn't even blink and is silent.
GPU probably isn't great for games, but I wouldn't know.
Circuit city!!! Yes!! I also remembered Media play
Thank you for sharing bro i like your video and a beautiful studio
Sanjay, bro mustache looks good on you! Thanks for the great video! 😎
Great video! And yeah GPU Audio is a great concept. Not quite dialed in yet with many plug but on it's way. Are you running your own DAW stuff on a PC or Mac? Love your vids!!! ❤
Hey Kord...I use a Mac on a daily basis...but I'm extremely satisfied with this PC I built...very stable and fast!
@@SanjayC can you both please make a dpc-latency test with the programm latencymon?!
I'm trying linus tech tips to do this video but glad you made it !❤
Linus is great! I wanted to add the music production tests as well...so I made this. Let me know if it was helpful!
@@SanjayCits great setup with relatively reasonable price but if we need big libraries like komplete 14 and stuff we need to add a lot more storage in external storage devices. I wish you'd show that but great video and great setup 🔥🔥
I’m wondering if you are using the thunderbolt for an audio interface like a uad Apollo or any thunderbolt interface?
Surprised you didn't go current gen. I went with an Asus X670-E board, AMD 7900 CPU, 4TB Gen 5 M.2 SSDs, and 4070 Ti. A very nice upgrade from my old i9 9900K build from 2018.
For how much in total? I have I9 and considering an update soon
that PC Set Up its only my dream, but my hobby its make a dream and share my music, thanks for PC set up info
Put an exhaust fan in the back. Great build. 64gb of ram on a mac is grand larceny.
Audio class motherboard for music is
The sMB-Q370 is a high performance PC motherboard specially designed for audio. And ALC892/897, Elna audio caps are good and a separate DAC amplifier Fiio k5 pro ESS (cheaper) and probably "Asrock" motherboard are also suitable. I assume that Intel CPU is best for music, because there are fewer errors in operation! For example, Asrock Taichi motherboard has audio: 5.1 CH HD audio with content protection (Realtek ALC4082 Audio Codec), ESS SABRE9218 DAC, WIMA Audio Caps, Nahimic Audio.
The Sony Inzone M9 would look awesome in the middle of this setup 👌
nice clean build! I'm just building my own now. But the 14900KS is the best CPU for music prod right now
You look alike Salman Khan from Dabang ‼️
Moustache power sheesh
That circuit city commercial took me back. Preciate that
Oh, yes, I remember Logic when it was Emagic, but furthermore I remember Notator, after Creator, when it was C-Lab...👴
One of these day I will restart my Atari ST 😉
second pc build i seen on youtube using 64gb of ram here i was thinking 16 would stil do the job
for your Ableton benchmark you should have showed us the audio settings.
Awesome video :). Behind the scene it was actually the cute dog that build the computer ;).
you should probably mount a fan or two at the back of the case to push the hot air out from inside the case. obviously the direction of the fans must be opposite to that of the fans mounted on the front. it is good practice.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll do that
GPU plug ins should work very well. A GPU can take the strain off the CPU and the calculations should be easy for modern cards. This looks cool.
Essentially what you want to make sure is your MOBO has thunderbolt headers directly built onto the board. This system is running my UA/Ableton reamping flawlessly, steaming and editing and gaming, it’s a powerhouse.

Awesome video and setup ❤
Great to see pc content. You could reduce noise bu changing the fans of the case by noctua fans. The ones that come in the case they mostly noisy. Also, I see you measure some start up softwares. That will improve if you are using faster ssds. Try pcle5 ssds they will match or beat mac most likely.
My next build is going to be a Ryzen 7 5800x I think, I don't really need much more than that and it's a good price for what it is, nice build though, that case looks well cool! 😍
Let me know how the Ryzen 7 works out for you
@@SanjayC Will do!
Wow, your build is super close to the one I built last year. The only difference was a Be Quiet case and fans and a 3060 GTX.
How quiet is your build?
@@SanjayC probably similar to yours. I looked at those fans and that case when I built mine and they were all very similar in the noise department. Ended up with the BeQuiet DX500 case which is open on the front unlike most of their very quiet but also very hot running cases. It's almost silent and I can record vocals pretty much right next to it without any issues. The fans rarely spin up when I'm using Reaper. Mostly only when gaming. That ProArt motherboard is also excellent. I would encourage any viewers of your channel towards a build like what you showcased. I'm super happy with mine after about a years worth of use.
Finally sanjay has joined the pc master race!
Yes! Let's go!!
"Welcome to Circuit City: where service is state of the art." I think they also had one of the earliest examples of price matching as a policy that I ever saw.
The “Uncle” Sanjay mustache 💯
Kids...try this at home
The moment you said "Circuit City" ... wow flash back! Lol
Originally I was going to build a PC just for gaming but after seeing this I remembered that I wanted to build one for music production as well as gaming to upgrade from my current laptop. Thanks for the video!
Nice & Thanks :)
I love your video. I want to ask what setup would you recommend for a good podcast?
Good video - expensive components. Windows, DAWS and plugins are extra.
Linux Manjaro has the DAWS and plugins - they are free.
Add a decent used PC and you have a scalable powerhouse without the snooping
from Microsoft.
Good video
I always build my own PCs for my studio and this was a genuinely sensible set of choices (OK, the 3080 is entirely overkill but hilariously good for gaming - I bet the GPU audio plugins wouldn't even make it break a sweat).
I'm a huge fan of the Ryzen CPUs. The core count you get per $ is insanely good for this sort of workhorse PC.
Would recommend to replace the fans to noctuas or build the computer outside the room for improved acoustics , but nice build!
Careful with you 💙
Sanjay looks younger now, working out?💪🏾
Keep the great videos coming!!!
Such a helpful video. Thank you SanjayC!
You're very welcome!
Dude... "El bigote" 🤦♂....🤣🤣🤣, Thanks for the content, you helped me to start doing my music!
My friend worked at circuit city and I remember going for pc parts and random peripherals 😂
Great video Sanjay C !
Wait, wait, wait..... is just that all mustache growth in a week ?? 😁
Yes! Hahaha
Suggest a GPU support - that’s quite a bit of sag at front of case.
Finally a pc build video for music production
Ooh! This PC looks awesome! How did you choose all the components?
I had some help from a friend of mine who's done it before. Anything you think I could change?
@@SanjayC i really dont know anything about PCs sorry, but i also own a noctua cooler and they are very good
3:20 own one for a year, and can confirm that to be a fair statement. No complaints here 🤓
Love how the white case blends in well with the studio. Amazing build.
Quick question, why did you choose AMD over intel CPU? Just curious.
I wanted to get the build at a reasonable price to test the performance. I want to do a high spec build soon too. Any suggestions for components?
@@SanjayCThat's cool, those 16 cores should be enough for intense projects too. I hear the i7 13700k provides great value at a lower price too. But if you are going high spec then maybe the i9 12900k or 13900k. You could also try DDR5 memory just to see the performance difference. It would also be cool to sit the gpu vertically.
Hello, thanks for sharing… Question though, what sample rate, bit depth and buffer size produced those impressive cpu loads in Live? Music TH-camrs persistent ly seem to omit those important contextualizing numbers (without which, the presented numbers could be misinterpreted).
Nice vid. At 10:25, what did you do to your DT 770 Pro's? This a cable mod?
"...and maybe I'll do a little gaming on it, too."
Yeah, we see you. 🤣
wow love the white !!!! Hey sanjay could you please suggest a low budget digital mixer for a small / home studio ?
You are a genius. Building a PC in 2024 one year in advance.
as a home producer/DJ/nerd its nice to see you building your own PC...good job!
Glad you enjoyed it. Anything you'd change to my build?
I started using Logic when it was version 3 on a 486DXII running Windows 95
Also please do some testing with tracking / recording will insane amount of plugins
Finally! A PC for music production built by a music producer...
Thanks a lot for this video
