Hi Peter, That was a great interview. I never got to serve on a Lighthouse with Chris but I am sure he would have been great to work with, a pleasure that I missed. It was great to hear all those names he mentioned and to be able to put a face to lots of them. Arthur Robinson was the PK at Alderney Lighthouse when I went there for 2 months as an SAK(It was still an I O B Station then)and he wouldn't let me be called Robbie "There is only one Robbie on this station" he said, so I ended getting called Bob which was a name I didn't really like but got stuck with for a while. Your video's are great Peter, keep them coming. I hope that you are keeping safe and well.
Cheers for that Robbie, Chris was great to be with and always had plenty of tales to tell. I joined too late to go anywhere that still had the IOB's. Great to hear from you again, I'm still fine and still editing most days, so not finished yet. Take care Robbie and stay safe.
@@PeterHalil Hi Pete another great interview. Last saw Chris at St. Annes. Perhaps the AK Graham was thinking of was Bill Roberts .( W.H.) I believe he may have been at The Coquet around the early 80s
@@PHAROS23 Hi there, hope you and yours are still OK? Chris did do a good interview, I must admit. Thanks for the info on the possible Keeper that Graham met, hopefully he will see your message. Take care and stay safe.
Thank you for your comments, much appreciated. If, like Chris, they run with their stories, then, I just try not to interrupt their flow. Cheers and stay safe.
Really interesting man to listen to and what a great memory he has. We've just returned from our annual trip to the Scillys and the water was calm enough for me to go out to Bishop rock - a trip i always try to do when I'm there. I bought a book while I was there on Long Ships - is it true that there's more keepers killed there than any other lighthouse? Thank you for another great video, Darren Gardiner
Hi Darren, Thanks for that, as for Keepers killed on the Longships, I have also heard that, but there is no way of knowing for sure, but Longships did get some severe weather which made it dangerous at times, cheers, stay safe.
A sterling gentleman and a right good storyteller. I say, they don’t seem to cut blokes out of this fine a cloth today. And an elephant’s memory to boot!🎉
Thank you Geoffrey, I hope Chris sees your remarks. Yes, Chris could instantly rattle off dates and names etc. No notes to refer to, not like me at all. I wish I had his recall. Cheers and stay safe
As crazy as things are going seems like a lighthouse keeper doesn't seem like a bad job after all! I liked it before it was cool. Love the videos. Cheers 🍻
Why are you yelling at me? I can catch it just as easy as you. If you're looking for someone to blame i don't know if i can say it but there was a lab somewhere in Asia. Yell at them!
Hi Peter Amazing content. Really do enjoy watching and listening to your videos. I hear the name Bob Ratty mentioned in several of your interviews. Sounds like a real character. Did you manage to interview him?
Hi Matt, Thank you for the very kind comments. No, I never managed to interview Bob, or even meet him during my tours. Another one that got away. There were several that I missed. Several more said no than yes, to be interviewed. And I even had a few that said yes, when I turned up, it was a no. So, I'm not sure that I was taken very seriously at the start, but I can't turn the clock back. Cheers and stay safe.
@@PeterHalil hi Peter thanks for reply i wsa 👀 channel 5 last night and was surprised to here my name mentioned. I was the chap who would dive for sea urchins in my underwear i was much younger then. I was a baker and confectioner before joining trinity house so liked to bake for other guy's I left trinity house and went offshore on oil rigs as head chef. Which I spent 40 years. Alas I haven't dived for sea urchins for a while now. We actually cleaned and sold them on Longstone along with selling sandwiches and tea and coffee we had a good business going until one of the visitors took a photo of us and a sign with prices of goods on. Trinity house told us to cease trading including charging for the toilet ha ha
@@mauricebunting7177 Oh dear!, that sounded like a good thing you had going on the Longstone. Thanks for your memories, grief, diving for sea urchins in just your underwear, brrr! Ha take care, best regards.
@@PeterHalil hi Peter I'd like to add whilst on Longstone I was taking a sea temperature it was a very calm early November morning i was close to the water's edge when out of the corner of my eye a large fin loomed from behind me about a meter away. It was a killer whale after seals and soon followed by the pod eyeing me up. Apparently it was yearly thing regards maurice
@@mauricebunting7177 Hi Maurice, I've done duty on the Longstone and was told about the Orca that turn up at certain times, especially when the seals are having young, but never witnessed it myself. You were lucky to see that. Us Keepers certainly see things that most normal souls don't. Cheers for that, best regards.
Absolutely brilliant morning toast tea raining outside down on the south east Kent & watching this brilliant interview thanks again as always,
Thank you, glad you liked it, cheers.
I love the way Chris speaks. What another great collection of tales. Thanks Peter.

Fascinating chap and what an excellent speaker. Great interview.
Yes, I agree, Chris is a great speaker, thank you.
A wonderful interview Peter!
Hi Ken, Yes Chris was one of those easy interviews as his recall etc was quite special, cheers. Take care
