@DistantKingdom Ahh! There you are! Was wondering were you were! With Palworld and all this drama I knew it's only of matter of time before you touch on this :)
My guy, their last set of games sold for over 23 million copies. Pokemon will still stay relevant even with Palworld around. I want Palworld to actually give them competition, but it is likely GameFreak isnt even sweating about it right now.
It's funny because Nintendo recently tried to "promote" Scarlet and Violet more than they usually do since Palworld became a huge success. And this was also after they annouced about "investigating" the game.
Honestly I'm loving how Pal World managed to piss off not only Pokemon fanboys but PlayStation fanboys, AAA developers, and once again expose idiotic gaming journalism.
@@DistantKingdom I bet they are angry that an indie game released at just $30 and it's on early access is doing better than their overpriced remaster of a game that isn't even 5 year olds lmao.
While it might not have been the first on Palworld's 'to do' list, I don't think playfully making fun of pre-existing ideas (like enslaving cute creatures to do your evil bidding) was on their 'to don't' list.
Taps the microphone* Gamefreak has always had competition in the monster catching genre, and nobody cared. These idiotic Palworld stans just didn't buy them because it's not the wacky meme gun game of the month Imagine if just half of these mindless drones bought Dragon Quest Monsters 3 last month. Or Persona 3 Reload. That's 4 million copies sold. Or a quarter of billion dollars. That can easily fund the next Shin Megami Tensei game that would blow modern-day Pokémon completely out of the water. Dragon Quest 12. Hell imagine if Yokai Watch made that much money

Regardless of how it all goes, Palworld and Pocket Pair are gonna come out looking even better, even if they lose the lawsuit. Crazy how that works when you're a company with barely any goodwill left lmao.
I dont know why people are making such a big fuss about it. Its not like the existence of this game is gonna actually hurt the pokemon brand or anything. THE LEGEND IS BACK!!!! I found funny how people seriously think Palword is gonna be sued by Nintendo while being completely aware of how suing works. Like... literally this game fulfilled everything it promised and Twitter just has a meltdown for literally no reason. Maybe they just cant accept the fact that Palworld isnt an overpriced buggy mess like Scarlet and Violette are.
Dunno what you on about cause the game is buggy and messy, but at least has the excuse of being early access. Thing's can only go up from there which is great, but the game is still messy and buggy rn, at the peak of it's popularity

I think Nintendo might be able to get Palworld on a few character models that are extremely close, but not enough to shut the whole game down, and by that time, is it worth it? Part of Palworld's popularity is due to peoples' defending of Pokemon. A law suit will only spread the word farther.
@@kennithbob one of the aspects they could get them on though is the models of the animals not matching the models of the world. Like I want to know if they would have had anywhere near the popularity if they didn't copy the style of pokemon.
Remember back when pokemon fanboys were telling us if we didn't like moden pokemon games to just stop playing them? I guess they meant that more intensively than we thought, they want us to play pokemon or nothing, don't even try enjoying what you said you wanted because if it's not pokemon it's plagiarism.
I'm fairly certain the argument is about the designs rather than catching in balls. We all know this game is inspired by pokemon, but it changed enough things to avoid a lawsuit.
Funny how Palworld game devs: 1) went through the AI requirements from Steam 2) is developed by people in Japan so they clearly got through their “copyright” laws
@@diegoolivares1081 Understood, thank you. What if someone creates a character using AI image generator, then makes 3D model using that image as reference (but they make 3D model themselves, without AI) and put that 3D model in a video game on Steam. @@YzozerDevelopers *Must* inform Valve on whether they used AI in development, and if they did, they *Must* state so in the Store page, funnily enough, Pocket Pair *Did Make* a game using AI, and the Store page is littered with disclaimers and signs telling you it uses AI, so I feel like it's safe to say AI wasn't involved.
One of the big things in Japan is that fair use laws do not exist which is why nintendo is so copyright happy. And both companies are in Japan. However, Nothing has happened so far so I think Palworld is safe. However you cannot use the free use clause in Japan cause it doesnt exist. @@eightcoins4401 Nope, if you look them up, they are japanese devs so they follow japanese laws, which are much more strict then United states laws due to them not taking fair use into account when dealing with copyright.
I haven’t played Palworld at all and that’s why I can’t say much about Palworld. The designs of course are inspired. With how many Pokémon there are it’s obvious there is overlap. Many Pokémon themselves are based on animals, monsters, Yo Kai. Like how Dunsparce and Noko are based on the same Yo Kai. I know it’s not a Pal World example, but still both are very similar, since it’s the same source material essentially where you can’t change much about it. Also one thing which I noticed when making a few Pokémon myself a few years ago is that some of my own have slight resemblance to existing Pokémon. Of course it was only unintentional, but when you make something of your own then you combine ideas of your head. And if Pal World truly would have stolen it then Nintendo would have torn them asunder already and did more in a short time. We know know how they protect their IP.

@@paragonyoshi4237 yes, and that will still be the case into the future, but i have the hope that palworld creates a new scene of creature collectors to rival pokémon. part of the reason they suck so much is that they havent had any real competition in years.
At the end of the day, I just hope that Gamefreak will take this as a wake up call, that they won't always be at the top if they keep putting no effort into their games. I would love to see Pokemon succeed again, but not for nothing. PalWorld has been amazing so far, I have 40+ hours in it, and although it's buggy, the amount of enjoyment I've gotten out of just early access alone is shocking, gives me a lot of hope for the full release.
As someone trying his best to design a creature collecting video game all on his own, this whole nothingburger of a controversy's really got my motivation shot. Not gone, just... shot. Still need to come up with some kind of pokeball functioning equiv though...
Well let me give you my personal idea, i had this idea for a long time but I'm not a dev, the monsters are sealed in cards a little bit like yu-gi-oh the cards would function like sealing magic charms that trap the monster. With that system you could even make the game more dark, like demons being sealed, or maybe just cute monsters, it works either way. My problem with the suing allegations Is that they aren't 1-to-1. If that's the case, then coke should sue pepsi, RC, and every other cola flavor. Yes they're similar, and thats totally okay. Pokemon does not own the entire idea of capturable monsters, so people are allowed to draw ideas from their works. I don't see how this can be plagiarism, since there are no names/connections to pokemon. That's why pokemom uranium can get shut down - using the pokemon name + straight up names and spritework from the pokemon titles, but palworld has no direct pokemon branding
I feel that too many people are focused on all of those rather than the actual issue that Palworld may face, which isn't "oh the designs look like Pokemon's style, that it's a monster capture game." or anything like that. The only real concern that there even is for Palworld is if Pokemon assets were actually used in the creation of the Pals models. Which as far as I'm aware seems like there are at least some models that may have been modified from official Pokemon content (or at the very least some of the comparisons seem compelling to me as someone who works with 3d models frequently). I know people have dismissed those kinds of things for scaling and things, but those are extremely easy to do in 3d software. I also understand that one person was doing comparisons in bad faith, but from what I've seen others have been able to find model similarities in Pals as well. Notably I recall a Serperior-like Pal who, once the bones of the model (which are used in animating a model) are lined up with Serperior's bones (as it seems to have been slightly shrunk or stretched, can't immediately recall which), not only did the body have the same number of bones, but the vertices (the points that actually make up the visual part of the model) seemed to line up very well outside of a very minor difference which would be difficult to replicate on accident. The comparison was shown off by themimegogo on twitter (status 1750591419469959665 if you wish to take a look) I think that regardless the best thing Palworld could do is probably get the most concerning Pals they have remodeled to avoid potential issues. I don't want to see Palworld go down, in fact the exact opposite, and the way to reach that exact opposite is ensure that there cannot under any circumstances be hit for anything like this.

@@YokomichiSilver I stated exactly who i was talking about, The models shown by the other person were similar but not close enough to what the example I gave was, though some details were suspiciously similar. I've not seen what the person admitted to lying or changing to fit the narrative so I can't fully comment on it from a modeler's perspective. (I recall something about model scaling being brought up, but depending on what is meant by that the discussion can go two drastically different ways) Again, It's more of concerns *for* Palworld I have, rather than being against Palworld as the person you're talking about was. If what was said about Palworld's modeler was correct (being a first time model maker and not 100% sure what the workflow should be) then I could see how they might have used the models as a base due to said inexperience. It's how I learned to model (modding games by modifying the models within them). The concern also goes the other way in my opinion, if Palworld is found to have modified official Pokemon assets, and nothing is done because of it, then nothing would stop someone from say, taking the models from Palworld, changing them up a bit, and using them in their own game. Not saying that I know 100% for sure that this is the case on the origin of Palworld models, I'm just stating that i personally wouldn't be surprised to learn that there was at least some usage within the existing models.
From my perspective... -The best outcome would be Palworld soaring high, getting there own plushies, cards, Anime ect. Pushing Pokemon to evolve and adapt to the change... For once in what feels like a decade. -The bad outcome would be Palworld staying within a fanbase bubble, no merch deals being made. Nintendo, seeing that Palworld isn't going to effect their merch sales, stagnates again. Maybe some tweaks to their new pokemon games, but with the same crumby quality. -The WORST outcome would be people losing interest in Palworld and it joins the piles of failed monster capture games that tried push against the monopoly. Nintendo continuing on as usual. I genuinely hope that Palworld can shake things up even more.
Palworld will fall into obscuretiy in about a month or so. Its the fate of every early access title. I doubt they have the manpower to ride the Hype Wave. I'll comment as I watch for any corrections needed: 1. AI claims are not baseless or a smear campaign, but based on a few pieces of circumstantial evidence about the creators and product. Regardless, it is unconfirmed, so the correct treatment for this is to raise awareness but not make any definitive claims. Unsure what you mean by "intentions". 2. Plagiarism claims against Palworld are not because things are "similar". The concept of monster collectors (although that's not really what Palworld is) are not owned by Nintendo, nor are any of the animals Pokemon are based on. The claims instead are for directly ripped and barely adjusted designs like Goodra, Lycanroc and Luxray (which apparently didn't make it to release). Certain people are taking these way too far, with examples like Wooloo being transformative enough to ignore (although the ball/rolling motif is a little on the nose). 3. A lot of the claims are not about what "Nintendo owns", but that copies and obvious inspirations make the game look cheaper and less appealing to play, rather than illegal or in need of intervention. The parody stuff later touches on this - if the games was treated as a silly parody rather than "competition" or "seriously good game" people are trying to paint it as, nobody would bother questioning it. 4. Some of the appendage and colour scheme stuff may tie back into the AI usage, but in isolation is not plagiarism or a problem. 5. Palworld is not competition for Pokemon, they're not even the same genre of game. Some of the attacks/stretches and bias may be a result of a fanboyism and brand loyalty, but the majority is coming from all sides as natural observations. 6. The Dragon Quest image is moronic and irrelevant to the conversation, it does not "perfectly illustrate hypocrisy". 7. Yes, evidence suggests that no models have been stolen. Similarities in proportions etc. are a by-product of stealing the designs rather than the assets. 8. Combining designs (though that is solely Goodra) does not exclude you from plagiarism. Sticking Charizard's head on Blastoise' body would not be an original or "distinct and unique" design. 9. Gholdengo is the worst design ever made. Gastly is entirely distinct, but no amount of Pokemon doing their own plagiarism would change the subject at hand, two things could be bad. 10. The entire conclusion at 10:26 is incorrect. 11. You are entirely correct that it is not our place to enforce laws. The majority of the conversation around Palworld are not about that, but instead asking for some honesty or to treat the game as the silly edgy parody that it is meant to be. 12. Nintendo often wait for things to be released before taking legal action. Sadism perhaps? 13. I don't think you can just "adjust designs" when approached with legal action. It's too late at that point.
Palworld isn't even a Pokémon clone. It doesn't play anything like Pokémon aside from a single system, that being its Monster Collection which isn't even exclusive to Pokémon (although the system used in Palworld _is_ similar to Pokémon's). If anything it's closer to a Breath of the Wild clone with Shooter and Pokémon elements mixed in.
It also borrows many of the types from Pokémon. Including calling the plant type "grass," which is a weird thing unique to Pokémon. And many of the symbols for the types are basically just the Pokémon ones.
@@godminnette2 Elemental resistances and weaknesses have been a thing in RPGs since forever, and there's only so many ways you can make a symbol for specific elements.
@@K2niarDneK The exact elements employed and their directionality are ones fairly unique to Pokemon, though. At the end of the day it's just a big nothing burger. At worst nintendo sues Palworld and they will need to fix a few designs. The hype will eventually die out, the next pokemon game will release, people will buy it and nothing will change. Palworld and Pokemon just don't compete for the same market. The number of people that will stop buying pokemon games because of Palworld is completely negligible.
I feel like Pokemon should have a monopoly on mainstream monster catching games so they can continue to make subpar games for eternity without competition.
*"They're just throwing circles on everything and hoping **_that_** will be enough to convince you that what they're saying is true."* And clearly it is. There are some people who have invested a single point into their Perception stat at birth. All you need to do to convince these people that two character models are identical... is to simply put said character models next to each other, and they'll come to that conclusion on their own. Based solely on the fact that both models consist of wireframes.

Agreed with basically everything *except* the coverage of Byofrog's posts on Twitter. That's not about similar design elements or whatever, it's not really in question that Palword has drawn inspiration from Pokemon and that's fine. But Byofrog's posts seem to suggest there's a decent chance that the Palword *models* were made using ripped Pokemon models as a base. They show videos comparing the meshes of several Pokemon models and their "counterparts", and most frequently the central body parts are very closely aligned with additional features being added on top. Not impossible to happen accidentally, but to occur repeatedly to high degrees of accuracy? If Palworld have used the Pokemon models in this way, it'd be akin to tracing over and editing someone else's artwork, and is the only point Pokemon could really get them on. It's still plagiarism even if plagiarising from a rich asshole, assuming that is what happened - it'd take people with more experience with modelling than me to prove or disprove that. I just think those posts are probably the only plausible part of this this and deserve more scrutiny than a vague reference and an ad-hominem attack on them because they don't like animal abuse, which isn't really relevant.
But the guy even admitted that he tweaked the models to be more aligned then they really are, basically changing the models to something they are not. As you said, there are similarities, but if you need to change the model to get your point across then its kinda disingenuous (thats why he admitted because he felt bad). And he even later on started saying that pokemon glorifies "animal abuse" too after people were pointing out his hypocrisy of only going after Palworld. So hes a pretty unreliable narrator, at least for me
@@CidYurui he didn't "tweak the models", he scaled them for comparison. This is a single-value change and makes sense - like, if someone edited your artwork and sped it up at the end, would it be disingenuous to slow it back down so that you can overlay it with the original and point out the similarities?
@@recycledwaste8737 see my other comment. Scaling the model for comparison isn't disingenuous, it's normal, because what's being compared isn't the size of the final models but their actual composition. If I print out a drawing at a certain size, someone else printing it out at a different size is still using that drawing.
@@Rainbro359 But thats the thing, he didn't do just that to get his point across, making him an unreliable source of information. And your example is flawed because they didn't just rescale the models, it would be more accurate to say they traced than just making it bigger or smaller. And thats the whole argument of the video "how similar is too similar?", just the lawyers of the pokemon company will be able to answer this question when they complete the investigations. Until then, Pocket Pair could even update the models like the "Ghastly example" to avoid any legal dispute, so we will just have to wait and see
I mean, most of pal world "pals" designs are indeed and unmistakably based on some pokemon designs, let's not pretend that it isn't. But at the end of the day, there is not much TPC can do about it, as mentioned in the video they don't own the concepts nor the game formula. But only time will tell if this game will be close to a competitor. It happenned before with Tem Tem, people were calling it a pokemon competitor and now no one talks about it anymore. I haven’t played Palworld at all and that’s why I can’t say much about Palworld.
The designs of course are inspired.
With how many Pokémon there are it’s obvious there is overlap.
Many Pokémon themselves are based on animals, monsters, Yo Kai.

The comparison was shown off by themimegogo on twitter (status 1750591419469959665 if you wish to take a look)
I think that regardless the best thing Palworld could do is probably get the most concerning Pals they have remodeled to avoid potential issues. I don't want to see Palworld go down, in fact the exact opposite, and the way to reach that exact opposite is ensure that there cannot under any circumstances be hit for anything like this.
@@dilo19000 The evidence that Palworld used actual Pokemon assets is shoddy at best, and the sources of said evidence are beyond unreliable.

(I recall something about model scaling being brought up, but depending on what is meant by that the discussion can go two drastically different ways)
Again, It's more of concerns *for* Palworld I have, rather than being against Palworld as the person you're talking about was.
Given China is already making Merch and flooding Ebay is showing its promise.

@@godminnette2 read what i wrote, slowly and carefully next time ok champ? The point being made is that person wants to make the claim "hey these ears and feet are the same" right? That's why bugs Bunny was mentioned as he has the same shape of ears and feet.
Honestly, it looks nothing like cinderace in any way and anyone still complaining about "oh this pal looks like this pokemon" or "this pal uses parts from other Pokemon" really need to grow up.
@@YokomichiSilver No, I think you're the one in denial about this, lmao. It has so much in common with Cinderace that it doesn't have in common with any other anthropomorphic rabbit - all of the features combined, even with the little differences that exist, means that whenever I see it, I am thinking of Cinderace. And Cinderace is one of my least favorite Pokemon.
@@godminnette2 the only thing is has in common is the ears, hand and feet which guess what those can't be copyrighted in any given way.
otherwise if you want to go down that route then let's go back to Bugs Bunny who has the same ears and feet so does that mean cinderace copied Bugs Bunny's ears and feet?
Heck the tail is wrong and even the fluff on the legs are wrong as well. You and many others have been reaching so hard that you've been taking the smallest of details while trying to come up with a cause that they stole designs from Pokemon.
Do you have any idea how Nintendo operates fair use in Japan where both of these companies come from? It doesn't exist meaning Nintendo by all means could have struck down Palworld if they really were using their designs but haven't down so for the past several years during this games development and now that it's out, sold really well and gained popularity people like you can't handle competition, come up with the saddest excuses while calling Nintendo constantly so they can make any statement that'll make you happy and lets not forget some of you have actually resorted to sending death threats to the devs of Palworld.
You want to talk about someone being in denial, look at yourself and how you choose to behave first before you start accusing others.
@@YokomichiSilveras someone that loves palworld, it really is just legally distinct cinderace. it's not just ears and feet, but shorts that cover pretty much exactly the same, head piece that goes down to the nose the same way, over all same combination of proportions for face and body. color scheme the same, just swap red for green.
Nintendo, give me an angry Totoro with a chaingun in the next Pokemon game and I might consider buying it.
07:25 wrong! moral of the story was that the one guy on twitter has such a generic design he should never allowed to hold copyright about something
Imagine white knighting for a multi billion dollar company that is actively contributing to the gaming industry being worse.
Defending soulless Neuroplagiarism will also not bring anything good for the industry
@@hungry_rabbit9032 What?
Very ironic coming from Pokémon company when they released Pokémon games with bugs and glitches.
To be fair every game has bugs and glitches even if Pokémon bugs are more easily noticable
@@lssjgaming1599 Not to the baffling point of Scarlet and Violet that can easily be experienced with just playing the game without trying to break it.
Nintendo thinking they have the right to sue palworld just means dragon quest has the right to sue nintendo
The Menasting/Giratina interaction makes me think of a Muppets Most Wanted scenario where if you just hide the parts that are similar to what they’re “ripping off,” they have no opinion as to what they’re looking at, but the instant you reveal the face: “ReMiNd YoU oF aNyThInG?!” Congrats, you identified the one part that is similar to this thing you call “Giratina”
I want nintendo to come out and say "We were actually working closely with palworld devs to avoid copyright nonsense." just because that would be hilarious.
Omg, thank you! Thank you for being one of the only people to make sense. Even big influencers are defending Pokemon. Jesus, imagine if we had that many people up in arms and quick to react about actual serious issues.
These people are definitely under some kind of Stockholm syndrome too. Defending their multi billion dollar company is putting it lightly. They are actually the biggest victims of their scammy, shaddy tactics. Game Freak has not released a full game in years, yet charge for more than premium multiple times a year; plus substanceless gachas like PoGo, and Masters Ex and even Home (biggest scam of all, which affects all other games as they launch with cut content and less box space to pressure you to use Home in large amounts).
Imagine people actually banding together to make Pokemon better instead of trying to pull down anything that dares oppose it.
Twitter and nictendo man children are what gives nictendo money nowdays who needs quality when some depressed loser will buy any thing you spit out sad really...
5:30 your argument against this is pretty weak.
Them having circled the tail for no reason doesn't change the fact that that Pal is a blatant copy of Cinderace way beyond what could be considered 'inspiration'. You basically criticized the example on the basis of what the Twitter user circled rather than addressing the ACTUAL content of the accusation.
That is, because the Cinderace clone is one of the few cases where you simply cannot argue over a 'coincidence' or mere inspiration.
Heck, be honest with yourself, that Pal is basically a Deviantart Cinderace fursona.
imagine thinking you need to defend the multibillion dollar corpo
also the game is less Pokemon than it is Ark: Survival Evolved/Ascended
Ain't it funny how people get upset over fan games being taken down, but these same people want game freak to sue Palworld,
Not to mention if Nintendo really cared wouldn't they've stopped the game from being developed?
I'll comment as I watch for any corrections needed:

And some of the symbols are highly specific - a circle for the neutral type, a stylized dragon's head for dragon type, a very specific mountainous shape for ground type. They could have used so many symbols to represent dragons, or the earth/stone (including a different take on mountains than the exact one Pokemon uses).
So much salt in the pokemon community, gotta love it XD
its hilarious
Glad to see you tackle this Travesty of a Drama. :)
To quote Nicki Minaj: They got defensive because they're insecure"
The thing is Gamefreak could have easily made a game like Palworld, but refused to evolve leaving a space for Palworld to pop off.
It is time for Nintendo to sue the country of Wales for having 11 million sheep
I actually want to thank you, you're the reason why I knew palworld even existed and I kept a close eye on it ever since.
Jokes on Nintendo. I already own Anubis.
These defender Poke Stans sounding like the kind of people to walk into a zoo, look at all the animals and be like 'Wow this gives me so much Pokemon vibes in here'.
Nintendo/Pokemon Company doesn't own the rights and likeness of real life animals.
7:00 "Excuse me??" He says, while posting his own pokemon knock-off image with pokemon types ripped straight from D/P. Lol
Palworld plagiarized Pokemon in the same way I plagiarized my parent's genetics.
LMAO
I hope your parents sue you 😂
At the end of the day it's just a big nothing burger. At worst nintendo sues Palworld and they will need to fix a few designs.
The hype will eventually die out, the next pokemon game will release, people will buy it and nothing will change.
Palworld and Pokemon just don't compete for the same market. The number of people that will stop buying pokemon games because of Palworld is completely negligible.
th-cam.com/video/etYHo7cIH1g/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=VideoGameStoryTime They really can't sue Palworld, no matter how "big" they are lol
Seeing you take the piss at the pokemon fanbase, it's been a long time my fella
I feel like Pokemon should have a monopoly on mainstream monster catching games so they can continue to make subpar games for eternity without competition.
*"They're just throwing circles on everything and hoping **_that_** will be enough to convince you that what they're saying is true."* And clearly it is.
There are some people who have invested a single point into their Perception stat at birth. All you need to do to convince these people that two character models are identical...
is to simply put said character models next to each other, and they'll come to that conclusion on their own. Based solely on the fact that both models consist of wireframes.
Pokemon fans doing what they do best - rushing in defense of their favorite multimillion-dollar corporation, so they can keep spending money on their garbage products.
The makers of Dragon Quest would like to have a word with Nintendo about plagiarism.
Which didn’t exist, and if you think otherwise, then in that case we must recognize this neirorubbish as even more plagiarism
So hes a pretty unreliable narrator, at least for me
Are you really bringing up Twitter threads from someone who admitted they lied as evidence?
Until then, Pocket Pair could even update the models like the "Ghastly example" to avoid any legal dispute, so we will just have to wait and see
Nintendo is filing a lawsuit on PocketPair.
In my opinion, after having played pal world, it feels really lifeless and not charming at all , it does have nice graphics, and i think thats what has been attracting people to play, but in the end graphics don't hold interest for too long.
Nintendo writing a cease and desist to farmers (They invented sheep, chicken and every other sort of animal)
We should all be thankful that Palworld is a great kick in the ass of Gamefreak/Nintendo being so lazy only releasing loveless Pokémon games nowadays.
Even when these loveless games will sell good it's still kinda a humiliation that even a small company can do better than the giant.
Shoutout to all the Pokemon fanboys that made their legally distinct Gardevoir OCs that are just color swaps.
