Yeah its face is more similar to that owl from OoT and the one from Tropical Freeze than any Pokémon tbh And the witch hat and dark color scheme is okay because owls are often mistakenly said to be witches in disguise, and they're nocturnal creatures, so wanting to make them blend better with the shadows makes sense
No it's on brand. Some of these pals are even the same type as the thing theyre based on. Some of them are that might seem like reaches have a design in another pokemon not named. Like the pig boar thing compared it to zigzagoon but left out its also mamoswine inspired. Like lizard with clothes on its body is broad enough to not be straight up copying, but its directly inspired and is not trying to hide its inspiration. The black owl is noctowl but they left out honchkrow as well. But knowledge owl is definitely noctowl coded. Now some of these are different enough that they are their own concept in their own right. The knight that is ALSO the horse is an amazing design and nothing like that is in pokemon, even tho the design is taken from what the vid pointed out.
I'm not sure if 'but here's a case where we didn't blatantly copy' is a defense. And I'm pretty sure they have copied something in every case. Even if its' not this Pokémon or that Pokémon.
Nah,Digimons and Pokemons have a too dinstic Art and Design that only a moron can say that. This however anyone can pick off the similarities right-off the bat.
I digress, you’re conflating it’s all black color but disregarding overall design, especially considering the same comparison could be made using Corviknight. Neither are close to Zekrom, even by overall surface anatomy, besides their color.

because it's more like an inspiration. Even digimon has counterparts with pokemon. The reason why pals and pokemons looks the same is because what's copied by palworld is the pokemon's ART STYLE.
Nintendo doesn’t own Studio Ghibli, Warner Bros. currently does, their movies are on Max, but Disney distributed the English dub versions of those movies, though speaking of Ghibli, I kinda want to see a Zelda anime movie by them! Also, you’re not wrong, the electric Zangoose does look like Totoro! 😂😂
I can't believe that there are some people still denying that palword is trying to taunt Pokémon by mixing and matching designs just enough to escape plagiarism claims. They recycle artstyle, stylisation methods, bodyparts, and even animations and sounds to create pals. I think the video doesn't really show the full thing, pals often take more than just 2 Pokémon to create their designs, and some pals are relatively unrelated to the Pokemon they look the most like, but you can still trace back exactly which Pokemon's model they used for X or Y element, for example the primarina hair. And no Pokémon drawing inspiration from creatures dragon quest didn't even invented isn't the same. Pokemon has a very distinct artstyle that you can easily identify compared to other creatures collectors, and no you can't fully replicate a stylisation method "by accident". And it's not an attack on palworld to say that, it's literally the appeal of the game, taking Pokemon's artstyle and running wild with it with gameplay from Arc, people who don't want to see it are just delusional.
well when you have over 1000 pokemon, there are gonna be some similarities. I feel like you can draw anything today and it'll look like a Pokemone. Not even ice cream or an ant is safe. I could draw an ant and if it goes viral, I'm getting a lawsuit.
you don't own artstyle and style, that's just silly take. No matter how distinct this artstyle is, anyone can draw anything in given artstyle. It's not patentable, not trademarkable, not copyrightable. You don't need to replicate it by accident because you don't have to. Apart from Verdash... because like wtf it's just terrible.
@@Lapsio I'm not saying game freak owns the art style or should sue, honestly f game freak, I'm just saying that they obviously voluntarily copy the art style and mixed and matched features from existing Pokemon to bring a "Pokemon feel" to the game, and that some people have too much bad faith to admit it. You can go a thousand different ways to create a universe, and if you look at tem tem or even Pokemon fan games that try to emulate the Pokemon art style, they still look distinctly not Pokemon, the colour palets, shapes, level of details and overall way the characters are stylised, and even the design philosophy is completely different.
@@sSwamzz That's absolutely not true at all, in fact Pokemon fan games that try to emulate the Pokemon art style still land further than this game. I've seen hundreds of people all trying to create a new Pokemon game and non of the design really look like they could be official Pokemon, except the design from pal. Except if you get the same person designing or voluntarily copy the source material, it's impossible to get something this close, this consistently. When you look at other Pokemon like games such as tem tem, you can still easily tell them apart from real Pokemon. Either you are artistically blind which I'm sorry for, or just completely of bad faith, but I'm sorry to tell you it's literally impossible to accidentally copy primarina's complex hair design.
@@artimist0315 I mean you're making an argument literally over hair, body parts and other small things. And if your argument is that other fan made pokemon games, games that were made to ACTUALLY rip off the Pokemon franchise, have some "new" pokemon that don't look like any original, then what about the ones that do? Coincidence? Or is it okay because you feel you must take a stance because there's official action taken? I love both Pokemomln and Palworld, but it's clear that Palworld feels far dofferent from Pokemon. Also, the current lawsuit isn't even about the similar designs so the Pokemon company knows you can't go off of, as you are, similar hair or body parts.
People saying those comparisons are a stretch are OK? Even BEFORE the pokémon was revelead, I already could see which pokémon they took "inspiration" from. Just looking at the pal design. It's not just the creature is similar, sometimes coloration, motives, types, or even all of them are the same! That's not a stretch. 6:12 see the cobalion rip off? Is not just the animal they are based of, it's the coloration, the horns motive... you can't make something SO similar without wanting to.
6:12 what you mean it's a rip-off they don't look nearly the same like I'm looking at it and nothing rings a bell with the two sorry but these two are different and that's definitely a stretch 😊 hell even the portions are off
Its obvious that palworld is heavily influenced/inspired by pokemon, but i dont think nintendo can claim rights on what are basically just animal parts
Some of the "similar" ones are really not that similar, like at 5:53, but most are pretty obviously ripoffs lol. I can think of a few pokemon that look even more similar than the ones used for comparison

So what you're telling me is I gotta own this game for every system that supports it!_
it's actually funny to see how many vids are out there with palworld vs pokemon designs and in many cases they come up with different pokemon for the same pal which one or more pals are based off of or just look way too similar. I've only played red/yellow; silver, Black 1+2 and X; so most of these pokemon I don't even know but looks like there are a good few of them just looking similar to each other. xD
People are stretching here. The very first one you show you claim it to be a fusion of Pachirisu and Leafeon just for being a grass squirrel? I didn't know Game Freak had the copyright for squirrels and leaves... Now, of course Palworld is mimicking Pokemon artstyle for its creatures and of course some of them are meant to be inspired or a parody of existing mons (like Anubis with Lucario), but from here to say that Game Freak has the trademark on sheep, wolves and sea serpents is just grasping at straws... Not to mention that Pokemon too had very clear inspiration and references in its designs to things like Godzilla and Dragon Quest, yet you don't see an angry mob against Psyduck and Baxcalibur... Also, if there is somebody out there that is blatantly copying Pokemon, it is Pokemin itself, with unoriginal designs and models excused by the lazy idea of paradox mons, regional forms and convergent mons.
I feel like these comparisons can also be argued for creatures in dragon quest. Only reason I would see this being compared to these games in particular is because pokemon never had competition before in terms of sales.
The penguin I feel looks more disgaea like and the sea dragon not shown in this video feels like something from an old ds game a friend of mine had, can't remember what it was called, but I always thought the designs looked cool.
But dragon quest or cronolglecaly Pokemon has a vary different Artstyle , and the have in most comparesens i found different siluetts + collors that make them deveate from another, for example gyrados and the blue Dragon were you could say that Kairo from onepiece is Loks more like the dragon quest monster than Gyrados does, most (not all) palls have not only simulare Features to Pokemon but share a vary simulare artstyle wich makes them look a like
Please do a side by side comparison with Dragon Quest. I played almost every Dragon Quest and I really don't understand why some people are talking about Dragon Quest creatures
100% the reason. Pokemon company and nintendo didn't care at all until it actually became a hit and started making way more in sales. They probably are thinking if we don't shut this down we might not get away with being so lazy with our games. 😂

@@Rockman_Solo What? Are we going to ban the throwing of any spheres now? Rock shaped objects being thrown with weird tech or enchantments imbued into them is now property of Nintendo?
The one at 0:30 is straight up just using Primarina’s hair without the beads. The one at 0:50 is probably using a similar hat to Mismagius. 1:05 is definitely just Soble’s head fin. 3:28 is definitely just Espurr’s eyes for some reason? 4:34 is just a modified Mismagius hat to have ears. 7:29 is probably based on normal Shaymin. Some of the comparisons are a stretch but some are just way too similar to be mere coincidence.
The reason Katress and Mismagius have the same style hat is because they're supposed to be aged witches and that's the standard "old witch hat" most anime uses to give the seasoned witch look. Also purple colour because that's the generic magic colour for witches.
Again: who cares if they look similar to Pokemon? It's almost as if that's what they were going for when they were designing the monsters, hmmm... 🤔 Also literally none of these are copying actual assets from Pokemon. They're all different enough, and look different enough imo, that it really shouldn't matter. I think the controversy is happening because people are scared to let other ideas get attached to something they identify with.

@@Chicken-Rice never said it was copy, but your argument is not really true.. late development can still add new designs, its not really that big of a deal.
0:00 That is a carbuncle from the Final Fantasy series, and you are not going to convince me otherwise. 0:39 I'll give you that there is similarity between crow with hat and owl with hat, but there isn't really any similarity to hoothoot other than a bit of roundness that the hat interrupts and the owl inspiration. You could just as easily put noctowl or rowlet there. 0:46 Replace the braixen with murkrow or mismagius. 0:53 That is Totoro from the Studio Ghibli film "My Neighbor Totoro" with an electric paintjob, and you are not going to convince me otherwise. 2:18 Are you sure you didn't mean to put wooloo there? It being a sheep with braids puts it a bit closer to this cotton candy sheep. 3:00 That is sticking to the source material (in this case, Anubis of Egyptian mythology). 3:10 Blue penguin looks similar to other blue penguin, but even more similar to all of the other blue penguins out there, such as Penta and Pentaro from the Parodius series, Sgt. James Byrd from Spyro. Even a prinny from the Disgaea games looks more like this pal than piplup does, and prinnies have the whole "explode when thrown" thing that matches this pal's use as rocket launcher ammo. 3:19 I'm sorry, but the only similarity that I can see here is fire-element fox, and they are based on different mythological foxes. The vulpix is based on a Japanese kitsune, which mythology says grows extra tails until it reaches 9, the reason for the evolved form being ninetails. The pal on the other hand is inspired by a creature from Finnish folklore called a "firefox", which is particularly notable for its flaming tail. 3:31 It has more in common with a blooper from the Mario games. 3:45 Mossy mammoth's similarity to tire elephant seems to be a pretty big stretch to me. 4:37 The developers joke about katress and wixen being so similar in design right in the paldeck entries for them. The newest update even gave them subspecies with the other's type and coloration to push the similarity even more, yet you give completely different pokemon for them to have taken their designs from, why? Surely delphox and mismagius could have been put down for both of them. 5:52 The only similarity I can find is the inspiration from gangster culture, and it's even different aspects of it they get visually inspired by, hoodie on the left, baggy pants on the right. I just can't accept this one as similar design. My quick description of Palworld is "legally distinct Pokemon with guns", but I am quite surprised at the stretching done with some of these.
I want Pokémon to have competition, plus, it's a genre, you can't own the basic idea of Pokémon, there were many other Pokémon clones around and Nintendo + The Pokémon Company never sued them, it's a genre, you can't own a genre. But here, it's very likely that the creators of Palworld took too much from the Pokémon designs, something Nintendo can own the copyright, plus, if they grabbed all the Pokémon designs and created new monsters using AI, Nintendo can sue them and likely win.

the similarities happens because they purposely copied the art style used in pokemon, that's the reason of the huge amount of similarities, there's a lot of games with monsters out there, and it's rare to see monsters that actually looks to each other, because the artist has it's own style, like there's huge difference between digimon and pokémon for example, or pokémon and shin megami tensei/persona, but here, the devs of palworld want to make a game with monsters that looks like pokémon, that was the main point of the marketing for the game, it's like somebody making an anime/mangá with art that looks like Akira Toriyama art.

This video does a pretty good job of showing the similarities, ALTHOUGH some of the choices were not the best comparisons, for instance 6:44 should have been Bellossom. Regardless a couple of things are very clear: 1. Most palworld designs actually draw from multiple pokemon, so it's not EXACTLY a copy, but the influence is so obvious. 2. While one can argue that generic designs cannot really be copied (e.g. Lycanroc at 2:13), you can still see that they use VERY similar design languages. The art style is basically identical across the board; someone who has seen neither pokemon nor palworld will NOT be able to separate the 2. And that's a big issue for many It's still a great game though, which almost "justifies" the plagiarism. Almost.
7:52 i am definitively mad how no-one notices that they are using in fact a real rejected design from pokemon gen 2 and not Tangrowth ITS NAME ITS WARWOLF AND ITS A BETA POKÉMON.

Not really playing Pokemon cause I don’t do sxxt Post game but shiny hunt and vs family. So rn I need something new..

I agree that a lot look very similar but some others seem a bit far-fetched, for example the black owl one.
Yh some aren't even using the right pokemon or characters, that pal has a Honchkrow hat
Yeah its face is more similar to that owl from OoT and the one from Tropical Freeze than any Pokémon tbh
And the witch hat and dark color scheme is okay because owls are often mistakenly said to be witches in disguise, and they're nocturnal creatures, so wanting to make them blend better with the shadows makes sense
I think the ones that are far-etched are fine, but the very similar ones are blatant copies

Please do a side by side comparison with Dragon Quest. I played almost every Dragon Quest and I really don't understand why some people are talking about Dragon Quest creatures

But here, it's very likely that the creators of Palworld took too much from the Pokémon designs, something Nintendo can own the copyright, plus, if they grabbed all the Pokémon designs and created new monsters using AI, Nintendo can sue them and likely win.

....maybe because Anubis and Lucario are both based off THE EGYPTIAN GOD ANUBIS?
The thing is they make it different enough to not be confused with one another
You say that, but whenever I see a dinossum lux in the distance I say, is that a shiny goodra?
@@leedlebob2667 Good thing we don't have to play at a distance.
@@leedlebob2667 the fact you can even see it at a distance goes to show how much better this game runs in comparison to some new Pokemon games!
@@arthurheine5631 Yeah, it is pretty hard to mess up with unreal 5 as an engine, optimized and well tuned. I have no clue what engine the switch pokemon games even run on as I am writing this, maybe it's some in house engine?
Most of them are a litttle different, but Cremis is basically just an eevee. They didn't even try to make it different besides the color
Wow 😂 they really didn’t care on some of those.
Some were a bit of a stretch though.
I’m glad the game is fun.
I’m interested to see how the final product is before I even think about purchasing it.
Fun video.
If you get a game pass code you can get it for free. It's a fun game
0:15 the "Lilidra" has Serperior's tail
0:30 the "Mirina" also looks like Suicune
1:05 the "Clodpoke" has Sobble's crest
1:55 this monkey looks like Pansage
3:20 this fox looks like Nickit
4:40 this one looks like Sylveon
4:55 Vixy looks like Eevee
6:02 this elephant looks like Panpour
6:45 this one looks like Florges
for 0:15, you can even say that it looks like a mixture of meganium and venussaur due to the flower fully blossoming on top!
That's exactly what i thought
This !!
But it is more comfortable then vinesauar
Am I the only one who sees this as Virizion? The legs are literally the same and the cry is very similar 4:40
Virizion + Flaaffy
6:45 yall forgot bellossom
Is there anything wrong with looking at these designs and making something new? I’m confused because the skeleton of more than half of these pals aren’t remotely alike
Major copyrightable elements have been taken from the original works. Some of these examples are pretty far fetched, but a couple of them definitely could not have been created without somehow using the original one. And yes, there is something wrong by using these designs, they're essentially just taking the models and changing them slightly and change the colors.
@@ttt5205 If they looked towards these visual representations, became inspired by it, and created their own 3d model would their creations not be their own? Jetdragon may look like Salamence (I think it’s closer to Latios) but no one would confuse a salamence for jetdragon. As far as we can tell they have created their own models and not ripped it from Pokémon game data
@@ttt5205 bro Nintendo would have absolutely and completely buried this game if they seriously thought their copyright was breached and you know it. The fact that they let Palworld be published at all speaks volumes on its own.
@@rosevee34Pokémon is famous for attacking and getting rid of any Pokémon fan games wether in American courts or Japanese they don’t have a big case plus it’s extreme bad PR and Nintendo doesn’t have the best Pr especially after that smash bros thing
@ふし-u5n it's not a Pokemon fan game.
Truth be told, I gotta be honest, the creatures of Palworld pretty much look like Fakemon and Pokémon fusions.
The wolf doesn't even look similar to lycanrock, the fire fox one too, some of these are huge stretchs, being based on the same idea or concept is not being a copy lol
2:20 not only it looks like Alcremie, but it also look like Mareep
There is over a thousand Pokémon, naturally you can find a comparison for some
the similarities happens because they purposely copied the art style used in pokemon, that's the reason of the huge amount of similarities, there's a lot of games with monsters out there, and it's rare to see monsters that actually looks to each other, because the artist has it's own style, like there's huge difference between digimon and pokémon for example, or pokémon and shin megami tensei/persona, but here, the devs of palworld want to make a game with monsters that looks like pokémon, that was the main point of the marketing for the game, it's like somebody making an anime/mangá with art that looks like Akira Toriyama art.
i am glad people are doing this kind of stuff since it is only helping boost palworld's popularity, it would of had never happened without hater's 300IQ!.
2:30 yeah this one will be the new rule 34 main artist inspiration

Nah, imo many of these share way more similarities with other pokemon than the ones figured here.
And Teafant is completely different from Cufant, they're just two elefants.
I never would have thought of Dumud ripping Slowpoke, but the fin on his head IS Sobble’s…like exactly.
4:05 who has that headpiece
1:48 should be Houndoom + Zoroark
0:50 What changes? The witch's hat, height and clothes
1:08 I have called this one Chucario.
oohhh pokemon invented cats, apes, dogs and birds, furries, and all with elemental powers, ohhh 😪😪😪
0:14 to me it looked like Meganium with two differences -- the flower is on its head, and it has 2 legs instead of 4
This video does a pretty good job of showing the similarities, ALTHOUGH some of the choices were not the best comparisons, for instance 6:44 should have been Bellossom.
Regardless a couple of things are very clear:
And that's a big issue for many
It's still a great game though, which almost "justifies" the plagiarism. Almost.
Are they copied or inspired
Inspired, nintendo herself inspired some pokemons on other series.
Copied and probably changed with ia

Half of these are a huge stretch but how did you mess up on Leezpunk and put a Scraggy there instead of a Scrafty?
Is that Sobble’s fin?
7:52 i am definitively mad how no-one notices that they are using in fact a real rejected design from pokemon gen 2 and not Tangrowth
ITS NAME ITS WARWOLF AND ITS A BETA POKÉMON.
Forget all the fighting between the two for a minute.
I genuinely go through all Pokemon games hoping to not find Ugly Pokemon or designs I hardly like, cause I want to collect them all and don’t want to have to item trade, or evolve some I don’t want at all just to immediately release them. But Palworld has 75% Ugly Creatures. I just can’t take looking at some of these. I play both already but I got rid of Pal world because of this reason. Not really playing Pokemon cause I don’t do sxxt Post game but shiny hunt and vs family.
So rn I need something new..
Sharing a concept in design is fine. Pokémon is not the only company than can make a grass monkey, for example. But when you copy that same concept AND design, even the color scheme, it's very noticeable
