Ah, the much fabled and loved Larson class. One of the best ships to come out of FASA
Its a fascinating design :)
Was it the Excalibur ?
Excellent video, as always. You know, have you ever considered making a beta video detailing the origins of the D'Deridex Class Warbird? There's so little we know about its origins.
Dont worry, ones coming :)
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios WOOOOOOOO!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios TOS ships are beautiful as well as slick and aerodynamic.
One of my favorite ship on FASA world 🖖🏻
Its such an unusual, but fun design :)
It's all about structural integrity. The Saladin left most of its primary systems sitting ducks in tactical combat.
The Larson had a much stouter build, especially with the nacelle supports offering excellent coverage from acute angles.
having a warp nacelle right above the bridge sounds like a death trap one explosion and you take out BOTH components
2 Larson type necelles on a Constitution class now that would rock 😃
If you did that then you would end up with a Loknar class. Which wouldn't be a bad thing. Next to the Larson, the Loknar is one of my favorite designs.
Another great video! Thanks!!
And thank you for the support :)
Fantastic and informative as always great video. Nerd approved.
Nerd Approved?! Theres no higher honor ;)
Bravo. Bravo.
Keep bringing these videos
Thanks! :)
Another FASA classic, gotta love them
Good video, great so far as I am viewing. Thanks Tri!
Thank you so much!
The Larson class was always fun to play. I tended to use them as system defense, so that their slow speed was not that much of an issue. And I would also have them in packs of three, they did have a tendency to be a bit on the fragile side.
What game?
@@miamijules2149 Star Trek: The Roleplaying Game by FASA. It was released in the early 80s.
I have always loved the FASA Larson and Loknar class ships
I really love the FASA ships. I never had anyone to play with as a kid, but I still love that game.
Interesting ship design I always look forward to new videos thank you😊
Well thank you for the support :)
I love this class the first time I saw it on paper and later RPed this class before the refit version as the captain of the USS Bob Ross NCC - 332
Did having the box section added for the shuttle bays also allow room for a bowling alley and swimming pool?
Thanks for this; a very comprehensive and interesting take on this class of ship.
Youre very welcome :)
I have never heard of this class and this video did not disappoint a greatly written video for an amazing class thank you for taking time to put smiles on our faces (:
Well thank you so much for the kind words and support :)
Super-I love many of those FASA designs.
Papa TAS giives us another gift.
Actually built a scratch model, using the AMT/Ertl kit of the larson class. U.S.S. Richtofin, used German WW1 decals for it. It was painted red
I've been theorizing that it should be possible to make a model of the Larson using basic pieces from other designs. Thanks for confirming it!👍👍
Great vid, have you done one on the DY-100, the class that included the SS botany bay?
that shot at the crossfield class
🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely well done and executed and informatively explained in every detail way shape and form provided on this format and subject matter on the Larson class destroyer and of it's main power source and functions plus its duties and abilities and fire power and so forth indeed!,👌.
Love the Larson! I built a model of a movie-era version, with new nacelle, incorporated deflector, new shuttle bays etc.
I would love details on how you did it, because I so want to build one.
Wow very nice Information Video
Thank you Dominik
I loved this class, so much potential. My FASA fleet had three of them. Their superior maneuverability always had the bad guys on the run.
If I remember correctly, FASA came out with a MK 8 design that could incorporate the newer upgrades. Making for a fast, reliable and deadly design.
So had to come find this video after us talking about it on Twitter lol
Always look forward to your videos man. You should do the surya class . It's like the cool tos reliant. I'd love to hear your custom take on it
Thank you so much, and dont worry, Ive already reskined the model so I could make a video about it in the future :)
Nice, I would like to see this ship in refit verison. It coiuld be nice.
Maybe one day ;)
Really great video 👍 love the model 😁
Thanks a lot!
I always enjoy your story telling. Another neat little ship from the TOS (those old scientists) era of design. Every time you show the Discovery battle scene it makes me feel sad how they have little blue lasers appear from anywhere on the hull instead of actually having hard points to fire from. Shows how much care the the TNG era SFX teams took when animating their battles. Your space engine animations also look very nice.
Not having visible hard points actually keeps with design philosophy of TOS, Roddenberry didn't want weapon ports or cannons visible, The Enterprise was an exploratory vessel that had to be powerful but not appear threatening to first contacts, that said she needed to have warship capabilites for trouble and frontier defense. In my head Canon, the ports are concealed by armored hatches until red alert situations and open automatically for combat as phasers charge and photons are armed
Oh, FASA--- how I loved thee!
That is one ship that should remain in beta canon.
Seems to me they could have just put two of the standard nacelles on this ship and not bother with all the work designing a single nacelle with mor power. What’s the advantage of a single nacelle over two? Also, all these different ship designs are fun to see, but other than that one that’s basically a cargo container transporter, I think just having more Constitution class ships would suffice for almost all purposes.
The advantage of the single nacelle is cheaper costs, lower maintenance, and shorter construction time. The brilliance of the Larson was they could pump out a lot of them in half the time of the Consitution and still have a formidable force.
@@f.r.wilson7603 as you said, a single propulsion unit means not having to ballance propulsion output between the two units
redo the angle of the warp pylons from the 30' built as to 45' this gives more volume inside the pylon area. next run a horizontal deck / bar across the pylon space. up high enough that torpedo tubes can be placed in the bar. say 4 fwd & 4 aft. upgrade the phasers to arrays as well.
I absolutely love one nacelle ships
Very nice
For some reason I think it fits more in discovery than tos. Could have warped in during the binaries
Good video. Never seen this one before.
You mentioned fighters. Is there enough info to do a video on trek fighter craft?
Once again i nod in respect to your creative way to telling an origin story. well done 100/100 have you ever heard of the tos/ pre tos Armstrong class ?
Thank you... And are you talking about the Armstrong Class from the Kelvin Movies that soneone converted to a TOS Style Ship?
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios not from that kelvin timeline it's a tos ship built around the same time as the Asia class
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios no it was not a kelvin verse vessel it was starfleets attempt at a more advanced starship for it's time it only had two nacells tho not four I'll see if I can dig up the picture for you.
I love the star ship 🚢
Looking a table on one leg
you dont need to be a race horse to be a work horse. i would have kept them around to fulfill to rolls you discussed in some of your recent videos. back line supplies. yeah your ships of the line, front line ships need to go zoom zoom fast. supply ships can get by with warp 6. Star bases and system defense ships don't even need that. you got phasers? torpedoes? shields? use it the same way you would the Archer class.
Seems to me if they were worried about space on the saucer section, they (Star Fleet) would not design a concave shape on the bottom of the hull. They could easily get two more decks if it was flat or mirrored the shape of the upper part of the hull.
I take it you mean 2 Bigger Decks :P But you have to remember, it's human nature to mix form with function... Doing what you suggest, would take away from the beauty of the saucer form! Besides, this is SciFi, and SciFi rarely designs boxes with warp nacelles which would have no space problems at all!
Dude. You could take two Larsons and stick them belly to belly. Double thick saucer with over and under nacelles.
Always first!
Well congrats :)
isn't the Larson class a sister ship of The Nelson scout ?
have you done any civian ships like thechameleon class starship? or
Interesting design I see the single nacelle being a hindering issue. You would think that, they would make it longer to accommodate the extra coils.
Except that would defeat the whole purpose of having a single nacelle!
I don’t think the Daystrom Institute existed yet when Duotronics were invented. Daystron himself came up with duotronicp
As the sentence says, created and DEVELOPED by... Meaning shortly after inventing the tech, Daystrom created the Institute to develop it!
But the Beta-canon also has references to ships that have been refitted and served for a long time (for example, USS Caspian NCC-5507, although, of course, his number is high enough for the bulk of the Larson's - perhaps it was removed from the storage of ships with re-registration.
In FASA 2302 (SRM) both - the original and refit version - are also shown.
And thus youve witnessed first hand the problem with Beta Canon and why its meaningless... Most times different sources conflict with eachother!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios But there is plenty to choose from, which gives space for creativity, and this is wonderful in its own way.)
God I love the FASA ships, well most of them. Some were duds.
If only Kirk had stolen the Larson instead of the Excelsior, we could call it the Grand Larson.
Uhhhh Kirk never stole the Excelsior... 😬
Made out of the romulan bird of prey
Sorry, you are incorrect!
Actually, it's NO loss to me or my 54000 subs ;) :P LOL You're not that important ;) See ya!
Inverted Einstein class
Not even close!
@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics yeah I guess but when I saw that design I immediately thought of an inverted, TOS Era, Einstein class
LOL Iagain, dont see it at all LOL
The problems is that we don't know how a single nacelle can produce a warp bobble. 😤
Is not logical!!!
Yes we do... Since there have been Canon 1 Nacelle designs, we know they produce a warp bubble the EXACT same way as any other starship design!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios
You know that the only ship without warp drive that can go in to warp speed is the klingon birth of prey?
If there is no warp nacelles, there is no need for warp drive.
Im sorry you're incorrect... A Klingon Bird of Prey DOES have a warp drive, it's just a different type that doesnt require nacelles, with the warp bubble being generated by the S2 Graf Unit integrated in the Impulse Generators... Meaning, a Klingon BofP actually has only 1 Nacelle! ;)
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios
This is who the logic of star trek cannon has to be change for the fantasy of star wars with no cannon what so ever.
No, there's logic and it's absolutely fine... The only illogical thing here, is your comments :P
I’m sorry but that’s one ugly ship
That is one ugly design, I gotta say...lol.
Toooooooo much horn blowing. Give the information !!!!!!!!
Guess you're just proof that you cant please everyone LOL
This guy doesn't know what he's talking about Tri! Your vids are always the best and are always outstanding just as they are. You wouldn't have almost 50000 subs if they weren't. I think this guys jealousy is just shining through
