    Jay Kay I like watching your videos but you really need to do your research on the car etc before you upload your videos, it comes across sometimes that you haven't got a clue and your just blagging your way through the videos, sometime your advice is the wrong advice. Remember any feedback good or negative will help you improve your channel.

    • @jaykay7932

      Thanks for the feedback mate. part of the problem is I forget a lot of the stuff I've learnt or find new things out as I'm filming he videos and haven't really got time to refilm. You're right though, more professionalism and organisation is needed

      Yea you really should do more research about the car you have, as an example: when you push the transmission lever to the left to activate manual those + and - signs should be obvious, you actually wandered why the lever could be pushed down, that's because when driving it changes down and if you push it up it changes up just like the paddle behind the steering wheel, it's redundant system because some people like to change gears using the lever like a normal manual car, so yea.... that's what those + and - signs mean near the lever.

    Regarding the gear crunching, I find that if I put my foot down hard on the brake that I get less crunching. I get this issue when I park on a slight hill and then try to get into reverse, If I didn't put my foot down enough for the auto-handbrake it would crunch a little and even make a loud clicking noise from the gearbox.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm glad I'm
      Not the only one who gets this then! Best off using auto hold as I don't think it is healthy.

      Always use the Auto-hold or electronic handbrake when parking on any incline. The Park function of the DSG slides a bolt in between the teeth of the gearbox, mechanically blocking the wheels from turning. It is therefore no surprise that there will be a lot of resistance when trying to pull the lever out of P as there is tremendous force on this bolt... hence the crunching sounds.

    • @suspeccct
      @suspeccct 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah okay. I do always use the handbrake when parking the car, never park it without using it, however, I seem to just need to put more brake pressure when activating it on an incline.

    The DSG ECU is sensitive to voltage levels. A voltage of 12.2V is stretching the friendship too far, hence the unexpected "racing" mode change on start up after recharging. Later on, if the DSG starts to misbehave, have problems or shift oddly all of a sudden then the first thing to check is the battery voltage.

    Jay, another quick point, auto hold only works if you have your seat belt on.
    A couple of videos ago you mentioned about the front assist and how annoying it is, I found a quick temporary fix without having to go into the menus, press the button on the indicator stalk to bring up the front collision assist menu and then press OK on the steering wheel, switches it off :)

    Hi jay some great vids on your blogs
    With regards to auto hold I find this very helpful and use mine all the time. You seem to be turning yours in and off !
    Auto hold is allways activated and only works when you've fastened your seat belt...
    With regards to changing gear via the stick when in manual mode I didn't even know that.. like you I'm new to dsg allways had manual golfs but must say I'm loving my golf R... what a car 👍🏼

    Hi Jay Kay, another good vid, wondered where you had been with nothing for a while! My R finally arrived in October and I have been loving it. Re your comments about not liking the auto hold and it being annoying at slow speeds like parking, I have not touched my auto hold since getting the car, it's always on and I have no annoyances with it at all. It does need a few revs to come off however, for slow speed manoeuvres it doesn't necessarily kick in. Mine is manual so may be different however, if you come to rest gently (break and then release the pressure a bit at the end like my old driving instructed taught me so as to come to a nice smooth stop) the auto hold doesn't kick in, so for parking and manoeuvreing no need for the annoying on/off of the auto hold. If you need the handbrake and auto hold to come on e.g you are at a junction or on an incline, all you need to do is either stop without the break lift (you probably wouldn't do that if stopping on a hill anyway!) or stop as usual smoothly and then just dip the break pedal very slightly and the auto hold comes on. Try it, see if it works on the DSG too! I find autohold great and am totally used to it now. So much so I forget to put the manual handbrake on in the wife's car now if I drive it :-0

      Hi mate. Thankyou for your contribution. Il try what you say and see if that happens on DSG

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate, i tried this with my DSG and no matter how lightly i apply pressure to the brake pedal auto hold kicks on. This will be because the car is constantly in gear (unless in neutral or in P). It looks like its a feature which works best on the manual R. Still a great feature but makes parking hard for me in some scenarios which il demonstrate in my next video

    • @GTI_CHHA
      @GTI_CHHA 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can set the threshold of the Auto-hold release function, so that the car doesn't jerk when you get on the throttle (when moving off). Just use VCDS to set it to your own liking.

    Hey thanks for your tips man! I have a neighbour working lots with cars, tellin me the gearbox broke after to quickly dragging over the gears. So ithink best be careful when you switch them if you want it to last. He told me its a weak spot of VW's. But everything have a reason & i found one in the manual that explains whats happening in between gears, that idont remember at the moment ;) But most of the answers are in the manual if we really wanna know.

    Hi jay. I have a golf r estate 66 plate and to this day I am still not sure about the difference between sport (when you flick down from drive) and race on the modes. Could you please inform me

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi will. That's a difficult question to answer as I never used S
      automatic while in eco or normal modes. I'd expect the difference would
      be throttle response (race mode is supposed to improve throttle
      response, engage the stiffer suspension (DCC) and open all four exhaust
      pipes) otherwise you will still get fast acceleration as automatic s
      would still hold the revs longer until optimum speed was met, then gear
      change would occur

    • @willcooney5533
      @willcooney5533 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you would recommend using race mode over s when wanting to hoon it

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      For entertianment and sprinting yes. But if youre wanting to do a quick overtake while in eco/normal mode I think Auto s is handy for that as it gives you access to more of the engines power. It's a good question because then given that situation, wouldn't kick down activate and give you higher revs (thus more power) as well? I'm tempted to experiment with this

    • @willcooney5533
      @willcooney5533 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also noticed that the exhaust valves open when flicked into auto S. Interesting

    • @Geordie023
      @Geordie023 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will Cooney the R estate doesn't have valves, the 5dr Hatch and 3dr hatch does as they have 4 exhausts, the estate if you look under the rear only has 2 exhausts and 2 fake ones hence no valves opening. The extra grunt in race mode or S is the soundakator vibrating through the windshield giving the impression of a V6 engine. Flicking into S mode by pulling back on the gear leaver is basically putting the car in race mode.

      John Wilkinson yes I was keen on this had mine for a week and already got a tiny stone chip on the bonnet, wondering if this is common on these also the dealer fu@@ed the paint I have loads of swirls already and think it needs a good buff and detailing already to show it at its best

      I had the same problem. Swirl city thanks to the dealer. I winter detailed using a clay bar, then applied maguirs ultimate polish which buffed the swirls out and then finished with the wax. I've got a small chip on mine too but it's on the front bumper near the reg plate so not noticeable

    • @Geordie023
      @Geordie023 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had PPF clear film added to my front bumper, full bonnet and rear boot lip, I also had a full Gtechniq Crystal Serum ceramic coating added. Done almost 1800 miles and not one stone chip etc. I defo recommend the ceramic, it makes the car way easier to clean and helps protect the clear coat from bird droppings.

    U have no idea how it all works! When u push it over to the left u can change gears up and down with the shifter or the pedals! Also on d when u change the gears with the paddles it only lasts a few seconds then goes back to auto it's good if ur going down a hill
    U can drop back a few gears and when u get to the bottom it will go
    Back to auto!

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      of course i have no idea, no one has ever explained that to me lol. It is intuitive to use the flappies but i didnt even twig on to using the stick to change gears. I cant see why you'd need two options in manually changing gears myself.
      Re your comment about temp gear changes while in D. For me i find it stays in manual for longer than id like after ive engaged a gear for increased engine brake. So i hold down the padel and get auto back on again far quicker

      @robertulph 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martino yes I hadn't tried that yet as when you are powering out of a corner and you want to give it some i was almost crossing my hands to change the paddles and it slips back into auto I will try driving it with the gear shift next time, i am keen to find out how responsive it is compared to the laggy paddles but don't want to push mine too hard only done 300 miles so far 😤

    • @milinddixit6583
      @milinddixit6583 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea why, but I assume it changes the ECU settings or something to keep the revs in the maximum power range. I kinda wish there were 2 sport modes on the R with DSG. Race mode (drive mode) and Sport (DSG) both hold revs to the red line before changing. I wish there was a way to sort of have a medium setting you get all the sound and valves open but it doesn't hold the gears so high.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I'd say no. The only thing I use it for is playing music. I can never use it to text or make phone calls because I live up north and have shit mobile signal (using EE and o2!) if you live in a city though with great mobile data signal it's worth it I guess. Bare in mind you can update the navigation maps yourself so other than texting, talking and music I'm not sure what else you'd use app connect for. I could be wrong, for example on the nav pro system you might be able to watch TH-cam movies or playback videos from your Apple device via car play. Not totally sure on that tbh

      It's not a problem, this SOC function doesn't work properly on most Golf models. It's not an official user function.... By the way, the flappy pedal on your steering wheel (+ side) states "OFF", which means that if you hold it for a few seconds, the DSG goes back to Drive.
