- Rep. Alan Grayson, D-FL, apologizes on the House floor...but not to Republicans for his remarks last night. Instead, he apologized for those who died because they didn't have health insurance.
Well Alan, it's 10 year later, and 1,000 a day are dying from Covid 19. And, we still don't have universal health-care. American life is cheap.
From a MoveOn email:
Dawn Smith has made a big decision about her battle with CIGNA over her brain tumor.
CIGNA still won't promise to cover all the treatment she needs, and still won't explain why they've denied her care for two years, or whether they'll change their policies.
Dawn is fighting for everyone who has struggled with irresponsible, unaccountable insurance companies. Health care reform-including accountability for insurance companies-is an urgent priority.
Wow. The truth is so powerful. I love how he backs these claims with facts.
This is phenomenal...Absolutely brilliant stuff. This Grayson guy has the truth on his side, and truth is an absolute defense.
Finally a politician with some integrity.
Keep up the good fight. Please don't abandon the great ideals of this country. We the people. We are the people. This country was founded on challenging those in power and giving voice to the unrepresented. Whether it be an oppressive government or a capitalist monopoly tugging on the strings of a country. Money = power. Power corrupts. Don't believe the deceit and lies. The only thing that is important is "we the people".
single payer is the only real solution.
You are my hero! Thanks for saying what needed to be said. Keep fighting the good fight.
As a Canadian, I admit there are flaws in our health care system, none I've experienced. I admit on occasion people have to go to the US for treatment. One side not often discussed is that Canada trains it's medical professionals well and the best and brightest run off to the US in search of the Big Bucks from Pharma, leaving canadians stuck with the education bill. So one could argue that they are going to the US to see our best and brightest. I pay $660 a yr for health care in BC, in NF was $0
If people have the public option then the number of uninsured that go to the E.R. will decrease(that SAVES money). Plus this bill doesn't only help the uninsured it also helps the insured by reforming the things in our current system that don't work. This reform will close loopholes, cut costs, and keep the Insurance Companies in check by giving them competition(this will keep insurance prices down). This bill would be cheaper than the system we have NOW.
Just studied this in one of my classes. I'm not here to argue, just find it interesting that the study conducted used information from a program that supports single-payer national health insurance. May be true, but it's also possible that we tend to find information on things we support. They didn't actually find 45,000 people whose death was attributed to lack of healthcare, just used probability and statistics to determine that number. It was a pretty cool report, but its important to keep in mind where this information is coming from and to check it out for ourselves.
We agree somewhat. I think we need to minimize the federal government, and cut down on taxes. That way we can get as involved in our local government as we like (i.e. to stop bridges to nowhere), and have our own income to distribute as we like (i.e. tax exempt donations to a free health care provider to the poor, that should exist).
Many thanks, Rep. Grayson. I recall GOP saying they like "straight talk"...but when they hear it, they scream like stuck pigs. The truth hurts. Good for you, Grayson. That was a Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" moment.
Bravo, Mr. Grayson! We need to hear from more realists like you.
Finally. A democrat with a spine. People need to support Alan Grayson.
It is easy to argue that nobody dies from lack of insurance, or that salvation is something entirely different, but Rep. Grayson is right in making the point that a moral society should do what it can.
Hooray for Greyson in Florida. I would like to see some type of single payer system like every other industrialized country has but it appears the only thing that has a chance is a public option which I haven't liked as insurance co. spend 30% in administrative costs and Medicare is only 3% so if Rockafeller's amendment today that the insurance companies have to spend 90% on health care, then maybe that would be the best hope to get something that would actually be sustainable & affordable.
I still ask for an example of a federal government program with a budget met and real cost saving measures implemented.
fuck yeah, he is good
this guy is my hero
