      So Republicans want people to die, huh? That's your argument? And you defend it as "absolutely correct." Not even a faint acknowledgement of hyperbole. You are intellectually and morally bankrupt.

    Georgia Gov Nathan Deal just proposed a solution to hospitals going broke because Reagan mandates they provide Emergency care: Let them deny care if the patient can't pay.
    And you thought Grayson was joking.

    • @LivvieLewWho
      @LivvieLewWho 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Grayson isn't joking. Many GA hospitals are going out of business for lack of payment. The ACA would create more jobs in the medical fields. More insured people too who can pay their bills. GA said no to a healthcare exchange and no to medicare expansion which would pay hospitals. Instead he let them shut down and go under.

      And also extremely cheap price to pay for having the knowledge that no one I see will miss out on the assistance they need.

      2) he is currently the most effective member of the senate with a record number bills passed, often with cross party support. The previous record holder was Bernie Sanders.
      3) He and bernie sanders are the onlye two people in the house who raised their campaign finances from ordinary people.
      4) Sen Grayson has called for and supports an Auditing of the federal reserve.
      One day he will make an excellent president.

      There is no evidence beyond the words of his ex wife that such violence as you describe took place. There is a police report of her being shoved, at which point the senator left the premises. The truth was revealed when a video of the incident was released. She shoved him after attempting to stop him seeing his children.

      Back to the issue at hand. What is the Republican universal healthcare plan ?

    • @Nine-Signs
      @Nine-Signs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      *****
      In my country we decided long ago that health wasn't something we were going to allow the private sector to Carve up and run for profit.
      The health system here is 2nd best in the world for costs, we spend nearly three times less than the USA per person which is in 27th place globally. My health system is also 3rd best for outcomes globally with new hospitals and latest technology and training, the USA for clinical outcomes is 18th.
      As for it being free. If you are sick, if you have an accident, if you require any type of medical care at any point in your life, everything is free at the point of use.
      Rather than private for profit medical firms charging thousands a year, we all pay a flat tax from our wages which is tapered so that those on the lowest incomes pay the least. If you become unemployed, the government covers the costs whilst unemployed.
      In your money, a person on the minimum wage working full time 40hr week ($20,500 a year here) will pay $1080 a year automatically. For this they are fully insured until death. Its called a single payer healthcare system.
      Our prescription charges are also flat rate. You can have any medication, in any prescribed amount, from any pharmacy, in any area, for a flat rate of $14.50 in your money.
      My country is the United Kingdom, my medical system is called the NHS, it is a socialist system and nationally it is our proudest social achievement.
      Any time someone has tried to introduce the private sector competition into the system, it has failed with the result of increased costs and lower quality services / products. They soon find come voting day that the people are not on their side...
      Based on our budget for 70million people, the USA could have the same medical system for $750 Billion a year. Vastly less than the $3.2 TRILLION the US population currently spend yearly on private healthcare insurance according to Forbes and others..
      With a single payer system, costs come down, cover goes up, quality improves. we have masses of economic data that supports this from all across Europe and the wider world,
      Conversely purely private medical systems cost more, are less stable, perform masses of unwarranted tests for conditions that don't require them just to jack up the fee`s to the insurer, charge $20 a bandage and $30 an aspirin, Its that simple.
      All I want is for you my friend, to have what I have.

    The democratic plan(Obamacare) and the republican plan(nothing really) both suck. Single payer is the way to go.

    • @BErectus
      @BErectus 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The GOP tried to introduce good ideas like interstate health insurance, which would've increased free market competition and reduced health insurance rates, and tort reform, which would've reduced speculative medical lawsuits that drive up healthcare costs. But, if you'll recall, the Dems locked the GOP out! They literally locked the doors and made law without allowing ANY ideas from the GOP. (Do you not remember this? Do you not know why Nancy Pelosi said, "We'll have to pass the bill before you can find out what's in it."? It's because the law was kept secret while the Dems counted on the blind faith of their sycophantic followers to ensure that Obamacare got passed without ANY critical thought! Now we have a total mess because of the subversion and corruption the Dems brought to the legislative process.
      "Single payer" is the absolute worst option - it is wholesale communism applied to healthcare. It represents communism applied to 1/6 of the US economy. It will do to the US healthcare system what communism did to Russia and eventually every country behind the Iron Curtain - it destroyed them. Only now are the people of those countries emerging from generations of misery caused by the exact same collectivism being advocated by Dems for the US healthcare system.

    • @DF1234567
      @DF1234567 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      B Erectus I don't care about this whole democrat vs. republican bullshit. Both parties suck. I gave both of these parties a chance in the past, but both have proved they're bad overall in different ways. I'm voting 3rd party in the future. With that being said, the republicans never really got behind a bill. Some of their members threw out some ideas like selling interstate health insurance, but they never put out a bill and explained how it would work out.
      Besides, I still think the problem is private insurance and they are in cahoots with each other to keep prices high. Even if it was sold interstate, they would still screw and gouge everyone. As for single payer, it's not a communist idea, it is a socialist idea though. Communism is pushing a classless society, and socialism in something is the government running and owning something.
      I don't favor socialism with everything, actually, I usually am against it, but I do favor socialism when it comes to retirement(social security) and health insurance(single payer). Other first world countries have some type of universal health care, whether it's the government owning and running insurance or the government running care facilities and insurance. I don't favor the govt taking over the care facilities because they aren't the problem, but the insurance companies are the problem and they should be done away with.

    • @luvitluvitbaby
      @luvitluvitbaby 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      B Erectus Republicans were not locked out of the room by Democrats. They contributed something like 89 amendments to Obamacare before ultimately voting against it. For example, the individual mandate was placed in the bill by Senator Chuck Grassely before he railed against it. FYI, Obamacare itself was the conservative free market alternative to Hillarycare born out of the Heritage Foundation and introduced by Orin Hatch and Bob Dole in the 1990's. The only reason Republicans turned against it was because it was eventually championed by Barack Obama and they will be damned if he has a single legislative accomplishment to his credit. Think about it, they constantly scream about what a disaster Obamacare is and how they want to repeal and replace it. They have voted in the House of Representatives over 50 times to repeal it and yet they haven't voted once on a bill to replace it! If it were me and I believed that this legislation was a DISASTER as they like to put it, and I knew I could write an alternative with my eyes closed that is heads and shoulders superior to Obamacare, I would write the bill, introduce it to the floor, and let public opinion pressure members of congress to act on it. Why aren't the Republicans doing that? Don't you think there is something fundamentally wrong with that picture? Tort reform and freedom of choice across state lines is something to think about, but it doesn't begin to solve the big elephant in the room which is PREEXISTING CONDITIONS. How do we enforce a prohibition on preexisting conditions and still maintain a free-market for-profit based system without mandating everyone have insurance?.This is the main question a Republican alternative plan would have to answer. What's your thoughts?

      B Erectus The "death panel" lie has been debunked endlessly. In the previous system we had actual corporate death panels - that decided to drop coverage through rescission, lifetime caps, and just plain denying coverage for "pre-existing conditions." If you were okay with the previous system, that led to taxed emergency rooms, bankruptcies, suffering, and death, millions without coverage leaving them financially exposed, then it's useless engaging with you. You're too far gone, and a waste of everyone's time. Besides, you've already lost the fight - the ACA is here to stay, and if it goes, it will be replaced with Single Payer, which will be even better! Your side lost, and the American people won - this even includes you.

    Bravo Representative Grayson. You summed up ObamaCare perfectly. It's unaffordable for the people that benefit most from it. On the surface, subsidizing their premiums sound good and noble, but when you find out what is inside, the deductibles of maximum out-of-pocket expenses on Bronze and silver may be too much for those subsidized.

  • @kennyc002

    the majority of the costs in health care comes from the fact that people usually don't crash and die that quickly. For example, if we come in with an 70yo old lady with a hip fracture, she has a 60-70% chance of being dead within the next year, the costs of maintaining her if say she gets an infection is astronomical in the ICU, even if for a short time. Die quickly will in fact make health care cheaper, but at the cost of everything health care stands for.

    What an enormous difference ten years makes. This is no longer just the implicit GOP plan, but a _bipartisan_ healthcare plan. The ACA was never enough. We not only need single-payer health insurance capable of cutting out the private health "insurance" profiteers altogether, but a well-funded national health service, nationalization of the corporate-owned hospitals, and a government-funded healthcare research body comparable to NASA. The covid crisis warrants drastic measures like these more than ever.

    • @discountchocolate4577
      @discountchocolate4577 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thousands are dying preventable deaths every day and the corporate-funded leadership of both the Democratic and Republican parties are more or less okay with this, and dissenters within the Democratic Party (AOC, Sanders, etc.) are powerless to change anything within their party. There's just as much blood on the hands of Democrats like Cuomo, Pelosi, Schumer, and Biden for compromising with the budget hawks as there is on the hands of Republicans like Trump and McConnell. The pay-go rule is in place in the house because Pelosi refuses to get rid of it.
      Both parties, on behalf of the wealthy capitalist class, chose to do less than the bare minimum for working- and middle-class people while the Fed pumped trillions of dollars into banks and Wall Street to prop up GDP growth. If loaning out this sort of fiat money at rock-bottom interest to spend on helping the masses poses a risk of overheating the economy via currency inflation, that's an argument for restructuring the economy away from the hyper-exploitative business models that flourished after 2008 (precarious gig work, multiple part time jobs instead of one full time job with benefits), not for belt-tightening and austerity, not for constant mass death through neglect. Solving this crisis ultimately requires reining in the worst impulses short-run profit maximizers who ultimately fund and indirectly control this government. Optimizing for health necessarily means not optimizing for economic growth - only able to choose one, they chose blood sacrifice to keep the line on an upward trend.

    With the new health care law there are high risk pools I can get access too if I chose private insurance...... 400 dollars a month with a 2,500 dollar deductible... That doesn't include the doctors visits which I would have to pay upfront... So any tests up to 2,500 I pay for.... UM I think I'll keep my 400 dollars in my own account each month.... THAT way I can pay for my tests ... Any thing major I need done and I file bankruptcy.... THAT"S the American health care system!

And I use "politician" lightly because Grayson is more of a concerned American citizen who became a politician so he could have a larger venue to express his concerns. And he represents the thoughts of millions of Americans who are disgusted with the Republican Party.

    Cigna's profit increased 346 percent and enrollment dropped 5.5 percent.
    Humana's profit increased by 61 percent while enrollment decreased by 1.7 percent.

    Note that the last time this became a major point was in the 2000 presidential campaign. When George W. Bush’s business experience and his M.B.A. was cited as evidence of his facility with fiscal constraint. He was the first president to ever hold such a degree and we saw how that turned out. We need a commander-in-chief to lead the country, not a CEO.

    When private insurance screws you over then you'll wake up.... IF you should ever fall ill you will see the evil of our current system.... When I see premiums exceed 1,400 dollars a month because of there AGE I have a real problem with our system... When I see deductibles continue to rise over 2,500 dollars I have a problems with our system... When I see private insurance deny payment for care because of pre-existing conditions I have a problem with our system

    @GodDamnit7711 I'm saying that there are other people to save the economy without letting the sick people die, since America is debted and has no health care. Sweden nearly went bankrupt in the early 90's, but our prime minister back then, Göran Persson, managed to solve the problems without having to throw away health care.

    Competition would clear this up. 1300 health insurers in the U.S. - I only have 3 choices in my market. If we could buy from the 1300 across the country, prices would be lower. Government never reduces prices - ever.
    Since the Medicare inception of 1965, insurance has risen well above inflation - that's not a coincidence.

    @funkyflights I'd still contact a lawyer if it were me to get this deal negotiated. I'd tell them they'd better take what they can get or I would declare bankruptcy so they wouldn't get jack. That is stupidity to charge interest if it could cause the patient to declare bankruptcy. That means the hospital doesn't get anything. That is also why health savings accounts could help eliminate this. It would allow patients the opportunity to seek out prices for procedures to avoid this lunacy.

    ALan Grayson said Under The Republican Plan, ‘Don’t Get Sick’ (Or You Might Have To ‘Die Quickly’). I always mention to my friends at work that frase but there so many
    ignorant an ultra selfish individualism of US that don't care if your healthy neighbor got sick suddenly and loose everything and with goes your son friends, because when
    a fathers loose a house house you also loose your son's friend. That's life people I don't like mandate, but but need to eliminate fro profit health system, health care
    is a human right nor a luxury not a heartless cruel business.

And this is not about responsibility when your discriminated against because you have a pre existing condition.... WHY don't you get that ?
