Watched the video (I'm sorry, I watched it in x2 speed), loved seeing the different takes, and I'm only going to say one thing before I leave to watch Boom, and that is: I came around on Space Babies! I don't think it's just "fine" anymore, I now think of it pretty much as highly as I do of The Devil's Chord. Rewatches do wonders.
It was a good idea to do this because I want to watch Doctor Who critiques from normal people who love Doctor Who, not money-grubbing hate-mongers who have no conception of what the show they hate-watch is about while contributing real harm to marginalized and vulnerable people.
Thanks for including my comment! I’ll def give Space Babies a second chance once the season is finished. I like to give every Doctor Who episode at least 2 viewings: once for unbiased first impressions, and once with full context of the character and story arcs. I don’t foresee Space Babies becoming one of my go-to episodes for when I’m in the mood for DW, but hey, I’ll keep an open mind! Second or third viewings can really change your perspective. And yeah, I like the idea of the 60th being a 4 Doctor special, I’d be super curious to see how RTD would write Jodie, Mandip, John, and Capaldi. Overall I’m happy with what we’ve got, but the 14th Doctor and an extra TARDIS just… hanging out does bother the logical part of my brain, so I’m open to alternate storylines.
This was a great video, it's fascinating hearing people's perspectives on the episodes both positive, negative and neutral. Finger crossed the episodes pick up over the span of the series 😊 can't wait for your next video 🎉
Had to pause to rage-comment. Throwing shade at the Magician’s Apprentice! Where’s the “report” button? Where is it?!?!? Do I need a Missy show? I think there’s room for a Missy show. I don’t even need stories. Michelle Gomez could just sit in a chair reading The Pirate Planet and I’d be fine with that.
Space babies was for me the wrong type of silly. The devil's chord was more my type of silly. The tone is a bit too light and fluffy for me. But devils chord was better but like i found the twist at the end weak. Like the idea of having a song is cool but the song is weak tbh, I'm not the biggest ever Moffatt fan but BOOM deffo COOKED. Love the vibe and the messaging and the performances. Beautifully directed as well. Maybe I just don't like the pure fantasy stuff as much. So it's like not bad but just not my vibe.
As always I love what you said about the hate in the first 15 mins. You seem to be one of the few Ytbers who gets that or at least acknowledges it. I've seen the whole ratings issue is even used as a propaganda on IG lol.
I've definitely said it before, but I don't think you should view the midnight release as americanisation - it's still prioritizing the UK, because American streaming shows drop at 12am or 3am here
i’ve rewatched church on ruby road quite a few times and it stays enjoyable, i felt much more medium about space babies & devil’s chord than i expected but i think they’ll grow on me space babies vibe was.. interesting but i can see myself being nostalgic for ruby & 15 just like i am for rose & 9, where their chemistry is just fun (strictly Platonically to be clear) and it makes any ep worth watching i also really enjoyed jynx as maestro
“Kinda the opposite opinion on RTD” is an understatement lad, me and you legit had parallel arcs on this journey. As an american, I dont think british people really understand how its viewed. Its not that its "too british" or the values are different or anything. I mean, during 10 and 11 it was MASSIVELY popular over here, especially with younger generations. We love british tv. I think those dislikes are more about the culture war and people in BOTH britain and america thinking its "too woke" now. Trust is has NOTHING to do with it being british this happens to american tv here as well
Like every single piece of media that is not straight and white is being bombarded like this rn its not a Doctor Who problem its just a social media problem
I mean... maybe. I look at American TV Shows all the time and don't like them because they're too american. And I love America! It's just a thing that happens, sometimes you won't like something not from your culture, especially if its trying hard to push in- I'm not *blaming* Americans for not liking it, if anything I'm blaming Disney for pushing it upon them. Maybe I'm just trying to find a reason that isn't politically motivated. Surely not EVERYONE who dislikes Dr Who is politically motivated😭

@@dwfan91- Interesting. People over here love great british bake off, downton abbey, peaky blinders, sex education, fleabag, good omens, monty python, black mirror, i could go on and on. I thought yall watched american tv like breaking bad, friends, and like netflix shows and stuff like stranger things. I never really thought there was too much of a difference nowadays with streaming. WWE is a bad example because its really seen as sports, and I wouldn't even say its that popular anymore, idk anyone who watches it. But most people wouldnt watch non local sports anyway.
i agree with your assesment 100% about the non-fans who are bandwagon hating on the show. a lot of people i can imagine saw the trailer, got triggered and then went and watched the episodes and hated them. but if you are an actual fan who has seen a lot of doctor who, not just the odd very popular episode, you know that this era is exactly on par with modern who standards and personally, the devils cord has incredible rythm and a tactile soundstrack and direction that makes it one of the most pleasant things i have watched on streaming this whole year. I think a lot of people know dw from the moffat era as a quirky white handsome guy and when they see jodie or ncuti in the role they politicise every single choice made by the showrunners as if any of their opinions are valid. it's so frustrating because it's so hard to wade through the flood of shit to get to actual unique or thought out opinions. or positivity in general. the internet's only way to do media criticism is to make a political assesment: does this align with my politics or not? and then they move on. i used to be very interested in those perspectives, bcs i'm a political person myself, i just think it has reached a peak of oversaturation and template criticism leading to ytbers skimming over media to catch the slightest little thing that aligns with their predetermined opinions and that will give them views. some ytbers do political media criticism really good, but MOSt and there are A LOT are basically just trolls. i'm so thankful for your channel because of your positive energy, it's a breath of fresh air to enjoy the show and engage with it as it was intended!
The latest episode (boom) had me on ghe edge of my seat for the entire episode and its probably the best episode of doctor who ive seen since tennant left.
27:37 honestly sounds like the script for a big finish special they have laying in the attics somewhere until they have access to use Chibnall-era characters lmfao. I would be all for it though
When they upload episodes of anything to streaming, they don't expect you to watch it the second its there as if it's airing live. Don't feel you have to watch it at midnight.
1:04:10 I'll deeping that a bit, is not that there's no association with the devil with the trirone, but that it wasn't in the Middle Ages, and was never banned and all that story, In the Middle Ages, it was, in fact, not recomended because it was, basically perceived as a too cool and hard sound to make when singing, yet it was pretty much sung, and even praised, ascending tritones were, and still are perceived as great sounds in Western music (just hear the Simpsons theme choir, thats a tritone) Further, in the early modern age, some dude called Johannes Fux had written _Mi contra Fa est diabolus in musica,_ which means that a tritone is dissonant, and not devilish, but was misinterpreted centuries latter. History went and some music used the dissonance of tritones to represent devil and then latter still the myth begun to built in the rock community and deepening more. There's more to it, but that's the basic to it.
i know what do you mean when british show ''americanized'' idk if you watched black mirror but i can give you a example, when black mirror was a british show there was a vibe that uncanny but mysterious i liked that vibe but when they released american episodes that vibe was gone it just turned into ''look technology bad'' but it was nothing more than that episodes felt like so banal
it’s so wonderful to have a doctor who youtuber that actually stays neutral while still being able to call out the fact that a lot of the negative reviews haven’t been based on the actual content of the episode👏👏
As a fan of both Doctor Who and Star Trek Strange New Worlds I am completely flabbergasted at even attempting to compare Subspace Rhaspody to the Devils Chord. I mean the very existence of the Maestro giving a vaild reason for the music makes this one superior. I literally couldn't stand ST:SNW music, it's songs were only marginally better than the Devils Chord ones and they are supposed to be bad.

Immediately? No,but him stopping its death made no sense. A common thing in this season so far. So they're just taking a dangerous man made monster and asking to be taken as refugees on a nearby planet....

It doesn’t deserve to die for it, especially as it’s now tamed. They rely on bad faith readings, reaches and often straight up deceit to provide a smug gotcha that usually isn’t even the case. Apologies if this came off harsh, this comment is moreso a generalised response to this type of criticism I’ve seen floating around recently
Twice Upon a Time made me cry at the Christmas Armistice part and the dialogue was overall far superior to the first two episodes of this season so yes - I’m going to say it’s better.
I watch some of these other videos by others out of curiosity. The ratings argument was like you said entirely predictable. 18 hrs & 20 mins people!! (EP1+2) I will be looking out for the Iplayer numbers to have a better idea on Mon 20th May but the only one's who truly know how it's doing is the BBC & Disney & if Disney continue to co fund the show from S3 onwards it will be a clear sign. I've always seen it as a bonus if it hits internationally but as long as it gets a sizable audience in the UK it will continue (with dwindling ratings for all programmes, just look how behemoths like Eastenders & Corrie have fallen to gain some prospective!!) Oh & Doctor Who's return to the Proms in August sold out in less than a few hours on Fri morning too 🤯
Really enjoyed this video. You're such a good person for the doctor who community you're honest and entertaining. They should get you as the 3rd host on the official doctor who podcast
I saw a video saying that all of new who episodes average out to a 7.0 on imdb and I liked all 3 episodes that have come out so far and I’ll aslo rate the church on ruby road but my thoughts in order are: church on ruby road 9/10 I really enjoyed it, space baby’s 5/10 the baby were very uncanny and it took me out too much(the rani referenced) , the devils cord 7/10 I liked all the stuff with the doctor and ruby but too little of the Beatles and the villain felt like a worse toymaker but still liked her (loved the Susan and 1st doctor mention), and boom 9/10 I liked it very much and I think that the doctor was at his best here showing his smarts and not forced sonic screwdriver shit like past doctors have done. Over all I like all the episodes but I feel like the rest of the season needs to be better because as of right now I feel like there isn’t enough episodes in a season for ncuti to get anything done. Also they need to bring back Paul McCann this season or next because I love him and think he and ncuti would be really fun to watch together
One thing I will say is that TH-cam dislikes are a very flawed indicator of reception, especially since TH-cam removed dislikes (or at least made them not publically visible). The return TH-cam dislike browser ad-ons aren't displaying the actual dislike counter instead it only shows the dislikes from people using the browser extension.
The 20 minute format is nowadays mostly relegated to animated shows. And even then a lot of american animated shows have started going down to 10 minutes which really hurts them.

The Capaldi era was ten years ago (checks internet). Jesus H Christ, Deep Breath was ten years ago. Why don’t I own a pair of comfy slippers at this point?
17:00 I love the Capaldi run I thought the political meanings were good most the time, Kill the Moon isn't an awful episode it just had an awful ending that even the writer didn't intend on how it looks like in 2024. Forrest of the Night is fine lil boring than Twelve's only 'bad.' episodes I'd say is Sleep no More, cool concept boring as sin. It's the Fear Her of series 9 Than Twice upon a Time is just terrible, I understand why it was made though because Chris didn't want to start 13's run on a Christmas Special for some reason. If Twelve regenerated at the End of The Doctor Falls, it would've made his speech better.
47:29 TNG REFERENCE. MY YOUTOOBER REFERENCED THING I LIKE. *Soyjack intensifies* Lol, idk why I made this comment, I think i'm being funny, but maybe i'm just sad because I actually think Wesley Crusher is a well-written character, especially after season 1 of TNG.
Dwfan91 coming thru with the best content on the platform again as always with balanced and consistent opinions and an awesome analysis of the fan response
Oh if I started I'd never stop. I think if I had to answer briefly I'd say: Doctor Who changes all the time. Even just within singular eras or decades of the show. And it changes drastically. The roles of the characters, the roles of the stories, the Doctor himself, all of it is always in Flux. Everything from the sound to the atmosphere to the visuals on-screen are basically totally different every few years. But I think the underlying through-line is adventure. Even moreso than Science Fiction I think 'Adventure' is the key. With that said, if you had to ask me what Doctor Who, as a whole, as a 60 year show, a 60 year story, is really about... in my opinion, there is only one constant. and that constant, would be death. So yes, boiled down to its key essentials, Doctor Who is about adventure and death
@@dwfan91- Thank you for such a thoughtful and insightful response! It's interesting how the show, despite its fantastical elements, often brings us face-to-face with mortality, loss, and the impermanence of things. Do you have a particular era or Doctor that you feel best encapsulates these ideas?
@@dwfan91- That's a fantastic choice! The storytelling was top-notch, and we got some classic episodes like "The Green Death," "Genesis of the Daleks," and "The Talons of Weng-Chiang." Btw, recently found your videos, I love your content! Thank you for making them, has cheered me up :D

First you forget doctor wjo has been available is the stated for years. Dont forget Gatwa said the same thing and so did the man playing the new villain
That culture war issue started prior to Whittaker's appointment, but wasn't that effective in fandom itself, from the Torchwood to Missy (I was quite disconected from any Doctor Who in the second series of 12th period for some reasons, yet I've seen some shit about it). And the constant growing political radicalisation just got it worse inducing people to produce fake news about anything to inflate the political discourse. That's ass! geezes why the heck do you have such a hate Boner for Twice Upon a time i liked it was like a full circle moment of the first and 12th doctor on the verge of regenerating and both realizing that the universe has to move forward and his future is in safe hands David Bradley was good as William Hartnell having the captain be related to the Brigadier was a nice Touch and Capaldi's final speech was heartwarming
Nice idea for the 60th being a multi Doctor story, but Peter stayed firmly that he wasn’t coming back, and Matt is way too busy these days. Like the idea in theory though.
I also don’t find end of the world and space babies to be much alike, any similarities are purely surface level. I feel the same about the idiots lantern and devils chord, they have totally different feels to them. Would love for you to tank the doctors from worst to best after the season is over. I’m curious what episodes people often rave about, that don’t do much for you.
Blink I think is good but not outstanding. Solid 7/10 from me, I get why people love it but it's just nothing crazy for me. That's the only one where I really differ from most people though.
Just watched Boom gonna watch this in the morning. I imagine this is gonna be a banger like always.
I appreciate the comment🙏
This was a great video, it's fascinating hearing people's perspectives on the episodes both positive, negative and neutral. Finger crossed the episodes pick up over the span of the series 😊 can't wait for your next video 🎉
Had to pause to rage-comment. Throwing shade at the Magician’s Apprentice! Where’s the “report” button? Where is it?!?!?
Do I need a Missy show? I think there’s room for a Missy show. I don’t even need stories. Michelle Gomez could just sit in a chair reading The Pirate Planet and I’d be fine with that.
There should actually be a Missy show
Holy sh!t an hour and a half for this community reaction is crazy, dude!
Are you going to do these for every episode / at the end of the season? It's real fun seeing everybody's reaction. Good stuff as always
*Trying to make sure nobody else finds out that i think Twice Upon a Time is a genuine 9/10*
Please note i am not a “i stopped watching at Capaldi” sheep i just really like the episode however WEaT and TDF are 10/10s
I don't think it's quite to that level, it's a bit rough around the edges but it is really great and I'm glad it exists. Maybe a 7.5 or 8 out of 10
You're wrong.
It is a 10/10.

top 10 all-time doctor who videos
Your idea to the 60th Anniversary is great, three very good Doctors and actors.
That's about where I am with it, too.
You are goals, as far as what we as a species should focus on when it comes to communication.
As always I love what you said about the hate in the first 15 mins. You seem to be one of the few Ytbers who gets that or at least acknowledges it. I've seen the whole ratings issue is even used as a propaganda on IG lol.
I've definitely said it before, but I don't think you should view the midnight release as americanisation - it's still prioritizing the UK, because American streaming shows drop at 12am or 3am here
i’ve rewatched church on ruby road quite a few times and it stays enjoyable, i felt much more medium about space babies & devil’s chord than i expected but i think they’ll grow on me
space babies vibe was.. interesting but i can see myself being nostalgic for ruby & 15 just like i am for rose & 9, where their chemistry is just fun (strictly Platonically to be clear) and it makes any ep worth watching
i also really enjoyed jynx as maestro
the song & dance at the end tho, by that point i was just 👁👄👁 trying to figure out what was happening
“Kinda the opposite opinion on RTD” is an understatement lad, me and you legit had parallel arcs on this journey. I believe I was way more open when I first heard the news and got way more apprehensive on approach, meanwhile I’ve seen you become more optimistic. Truly a twisted reflection if you ask me.
I hope that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy the videos😭 I get where you're coming from my friend LMAO

Just finished watching BOOM and I was so happy. Moffat is the GOAT I’m afraid.
This episode was a banger!!
I loved the dynamic between the Doctor and Ruby and all the other characters aswell (maybe aside from the child, but child actors are child actors)
I enjoyed it a lot!
I'm a musician too and I was aware of the devil's chord myth but you've gotta give a little when you're watching doctor who. Suspension of disbelief is an important part of watching scifi

@@dwfan91- I think you were right in that more people are watching, so you just hear more opinions, positive and negative, but I don't think it's just that americans are hating on it now that its over here more prominently and that its british
@@ashleyschreiber7115 I feel like if, say, WWE or another stereotypically American show was suddenly massively pushed in the UK, regular people would complain about it near me. This was a long time ago but I remember in my real life circles people got annoyed when BEN 10 came out because it was "too american" or annoying or something (it was just Ben 10 lol) Maybe I'm applying my real life experiences to this in a way that could otherwise easily explained with another reason but I'd like to be charitable
I don't think Susan has been mentioned by name previously but I remember a portrait of her being on the 12th doctor's desk in the university
I'm sure there MUST'VE been another name drop in the modern series...
i agree with your assesment 100% about the non-fans who are bandwagon hating on the show. a lot of people i can imagine saw the trailer, got triggered and then went and watched the episodes and hated them. but if you are an actual fan who has seen a lot of doctor who, not just the odd very popular episode, you know that this era is exactly on par with modern who standards and personally, the devils cord has incredible rythm and a tactile soundstrack and direction that makes it one of the most pleasant things i have watched on streaming this whole year.
You mean since he left the first time or the second time?
27:37 honestly sounds like the script for a big finish special they have laying in the attics somewhere until they have access to use Chibnall-era characters lmfao. I would be all for it though
When they upload episodes of anything to streaming, they don't expect you to watch it the second its there as if it's airing live. Don't feel you have to watch it at midnight.
I'm watching it with my partner over a WhatsApp call so watching it live is convenient so it's synced
Oh yeah I'm just up super late unrelated
yeahhhh totally😂
I miss when everyone was saying that doctor who was dead back in series 9 because the doctor playing the guitar looked silly
1:04:10 I'll deeping that a bit, is not that there's no association with the devil with the trirone, but that it wasn't in the Middle Ages, and was never banned and all that story,
In the Middle Ages, it was, in fact, not recomended because it was, basically perceived as a too cool and hard sound to make when singing, yet it was pretty much sung, and even praised, ascending tritones were, and still are perceived as great sounds in Western music (just hear the Simpsons theme choir, thats a tritone)
Further, in the early modern age, some dude called Johannes Fux had written _Mi contra Fa est diabolus in musica,_ which means that a tritone is dissonant, and not devilish, but was misinterpreted centuries latter.
True, the only British show that was Americanized and surprisingly successful is The Office.
was excited for this one frfr
27:25 BRUH why you gotta play with my heart like that jesus christ that would have been so sick for the 60th.
it’s so wonderful to have a doctor who youtuber that actually stays neutral while still being able to call out the fact that a lot of the negative reviews haven’t been based on the actual content of the episode👏👏
I saw a comment saying Ncuti wasn’t the Doctor because he didn’t mercilessly kill the Bogeyman the second he saw it.
Yeah I saw similar sentiments. Some people do deserve to simply be ignored
@@dwfan91- I think it ties into similar sentiments of wanting the show to be constantly dark and edgy, and people treating 7 like Batman or Light or something, and all those Time War sigma edits I keep seeing.
@@idle_speculation Yeah... yeah :/
Immediately? No,but him stopping its death made no sense. A common thing in this season so far. So they're just taking a dangerous man made monster and asking to be taken as refugees on a nearby planet....
@@pancakepop680 Monster? You clearly missed the point. The Bogeyman may be scary, but it’s another one of the children. It just has a deformity. It doesn’t deserve to die for it, especially as it’s now tamed. I must confess these faux-moral arguments that have been plaguing dr who discourse really tick me off, far more than any other type of criticism to be honest.
I'm glad you can like it!
26:40 YES! Also I feel like I've heard this idea your about to come out with here (paused it to put this comment)
I watch some of these other videos by others out of curiosity. The ratings argument was like you said entirely predictable. 18 hrs & 20 mins people!! (EP1+2)
I will be looking out for the Iplayer numbers to have a better idea on Mon 20th May but the only one's who truly know how it's doing is the BBC & Disney & if Disney continue to co fund the show from S3 onwards it will be a clear sign.
I've always seen it as a bonus if it hits internationally but as long as it gets a sizable audience in the UK it will continue (with dwindling ratings for all programmes, just look how behemoths like Eastenders & Corrie have fallen to gain some prospective!!)
Oh & Doctor Who's return to the Proms in August sold out in less than a few hours on Fri morning too 🤯
Really enjoyed this video.
You're such a good person for the doctor who community you're honest and entertaining. They should get you as the 3rd host on the official doctor who podcast
LETS GO!!
Yay.
Would love it!
But wouldn’t have happened because RTD doesn’t like multi doctor stories.
Banging video AS PER
My god Boom was good

I loved it. I don’t want to say 10/10 but also there wasn’t a single part of this episode I didn’t love…
It’s a god damn 10/10
Its so funny how now people are talking about a susan twist, and susan twist's twist.
The Capaldi era was ten years ago (checks internet). Jesus H Christ, Deep Breath was ten years ago. Why don’t I own a pair of comfy slippers at this point?
I know, I literally fell to my knees when I remembered this...
It's been okay so far. I hope it gets better.
The Christmas special was great. The "first" episode meh in my opinion. But episodes 2 and 3 are really good in my opinion :)
26:17 HOLD UP....LET HIM COOK
47:29 TNG REFERENCE. MY YOUTOOBER REFERENCED THING I LIKE. *Soyjack intensifies*
Lol, idk why I made this comment, I think i'm being funny, but maybe i'm just sad because I actually think Wesley Crusher is a well-written character, especially after season 1 of TNG.

What's your deeper perspective on what Doctor Who is really about? I'm quite curious on your opinion
@@evie._.lake20 My personal favourite era of Doctor Who is the 1970s, specifically 1971-1977. For me that run of episodes is perfect

The Devil's Chord scoring worse in the polls than the Starbeast is crazy? We watched the same show right?
they had 5 minutes of flashbacks from a scene that happened 15 mins before. just bad tv they can't even fill a 40 minute slot they have to replay footage.
anyone with braincells surely has to be bored to death by these predictable childish stories
That's ass!
I do think that everything is political, yet it shouldn't be cultural war or partidary.

Nice idea for the 60th being a multi Doctor story, but Peter stayed firmly that he wasn’t coming back, and Matt is way too busy these days. Like the idea in theory though.
I imagine a large hefty cheque could change their minds
I also don’t find end of the world and space babies to be much alike, any similarities are purely surface level. I feel the same about the idiots lantern and devils chord, they have totally different feels to them.
Would love for you to tank the doctors from worst to best after the season is over.
