    Thank you so much for posting this - I am less nervous having an idea of what to expect and very much appreciate the time you've taken to video and post this.

    Thank you! It's very helpful for a new examiner. Could you make a video "What to expect for RCM PrepB Zoom exam"?

    Hi Diana, I remember when my daughter took prep A and B exams, they allowed her to play her pieces first before moving to the technical and ear testing. I think there was a option when we put in the programs. I haven't done that for her for level 1 program selection yet, do you know if that is still an option-to play the pieces before doing the technical and eat test? Thank you so much.

    Thank you! It was very helpful to know what to expect so I could prep. One question, is it mandatory to have 76 or more keys to take the exam?

    • @musicwithdiana1765
      @musicwithdiana1765  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a great question! As of this moment (May, 2021), the RCM states that "the specific condition to take a Piano practical examination remotely is 'an acoustic piano OR a 76- or 88-key weighted electronic keyboard as a substitute for an acoustic piano' for Piano Level Prep to 8."
      If your keyboard is smaller than 76 keys, ask your teacher or a friend or family member with a full-size piano if you can complete your exam using their instrument.

    How come after 3 years of dedicated music study and daily practice I cant pass this type of simple aural test ? How do students in such situation progress? How many who fail eventually make it through and after how many attempts? What happens to students who can't pass after repeated attempts ?

      Great question! The aural test examples from this video may sound simple, but even level 1 aural tests are quite complicated and require a lot of training! 3 years is not a lot of time, so be patient with yourself! I'm sure you've made more progress than you realize!
      In an exam situation, failing the ear training component is unlikely to cause you to fail the entire exam. You will just miss out on those 10 or so marks from your total. Even if you are completely guessing, you will usually have a good chance of getting some intervals and chords correct at this level since there are only two possible answers for each! Don't stress if your ear tests don't "click" in time for your exam. It will come with time.

    the chart at 1:00 is very helpful. Is there any way I could find this for every RCM level?

      This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but information on each level can be found on in the Piano Syllabus. It is available for free here: files.rcmusic.com/sites/default/files/files/RCM-Piano-Syllabus-2015.pdf

    Hi, I’m here because my level 10 exam is in 2 days. My piano teacher has told me to record my 5 repertoire pieces and send them to youtube and the examiner will watch them. I’m not so sure now after seeing your video. Do I play the repertoire pieces on the exam or on do I upload my repertoire pieces onto TH-cam beforehand?

    • @musicwithdiana1765

      Hi Vii! Your teacher is right about your exam. The online exams are different for elementary and advanced students. For level 10, the examiners will be listening for tiny details in your playing that can't be heard over a Zoom call. For these higher levels, students are expected to record and upload their performances.
      I hope this clears up any confusion! Good luck on your exam!

    So I went for my piano exam and played all my technique incorrectly and had 2 memory slips on 2 rep pieces… do you think I’m even gonna pass?

    • @musicwithdiana1765
      @musicwithdiana1765  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alisson. Congrats on completing your exam! That is a huge accomplishment! In level 1, your technique is only 14% of your total grade. Memory slips happen to the best of us, as well. Be kind to yourself and keep pushing forward!
