    Hi Diana, I remember when my daughter took prep A and B exams, they allowed her to play her pieces first before moving to the technical and ear testing. I think there was a option when we put in the programs. I haven't done that for her for level 1 program selection yet, do you know if that is still an option-to play the pieces before doing the technical and eat test? Thank you so much.

    Music theory is Ptolemaic and tells lies. It is necessary to begin to study the axioms that support the XOANS Theorem. There are no staves with more than five alteration figures, because there are only five and they do not affect all notes on all scales. The V (Dominant) of B flat is an enharmonic note of F sharp, which is the V of B (B major) or, b (b minor) ... Since, the dominants are those notes that function as fundamental notes of a Major scale ; but no major scale can open its octaves with a "Sharp" alteration accident. Reason why, G Sharp is a minor scale, and if it is a Major scale it is called A Flat. C Sharp is a minor scale, but if it is a major scale, then it is D Flat. And those notes of chords in opposite mode are called "enharmonic notes." Greetings from Colombia.

    I see the circle, I get it, I’m a long time sheet music player and new to chords. I can’t understand how to put this into use. Can you help? I can’t get enough piano in my retirement! Obsessed with learning!

    • @ngtvideos5166

      The applied use of the circle of fifths helps you achieve: - Discovering the key signature - Discovering the primary chords of a key - Chord progression - Bass line music - Modulation Knowing and practicing this helps you improve your site reading and technique. There are also other things it can help you with like improvising and composing music.

    Thank you. I learned the meaning of relative minor only now.

    • @JesseLandau
      @JesseLandau 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the same notes as the major key. C major is C, D, E, F, G, A, B A minor is A, B, C, D, E, F, G The only difference is that the minor key starts three steps down from the 'C' note (and of course sounds sadder). That's it. That's relative minor. Every major key has it's relative minor. The formula is the same. Just play them both real fast a bunch of times and you'll understand. Don't think about too much.

    • @musicwithdiana1765
      @musicwithdiana1765 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alisson. Congrats on completing your exam! That is a huge accomplishment! In level 1, your technique is only 14% of your total grade. Memory slips happen to the best of us, as well. Be kind to yourself and keep pushing forward!

      This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but information on each level can be found on in the Piano Syllabus. It is available for free here: files.rcmusic.com/sites/default/files/files/RCM-Piano-Syllabus-2015.pdf

    Hi, I’m here because my level 10 exam is in 2 days. My piano teacher has told me to record my 5 repertoire pieces and send them to youtube and the examiner will watch them. I’m not so sure now after seeing your video. Do I play the repertoire pieces on the exam or on do I upload my repertoire pieces onto TH-cam beforehand?

    • @musicwithdiana1765
      @musicwithdiana1765 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Vii! Your teacher is right about your exam. The online exams are different for elementary and advanced students. For level 10, the examiners will be listening for tiny details in your playing that can't be heard over a Zoom call. For these higher levels, students are expected to record and upload their performances. I hope this clears up any confusion! Good luck on your exam!

    How come after 3 years of dedicated music study and daily practice I cant pass this type of simple aural test ? How do students in such situation progress? How many who fail eventually make it through and after how many attempts? What happens to students who can't pass after repeated attempts ?

    • @musicwithdiana1765
      @musicwithdiana1765 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! The aural test examples from this video may sound simple, but even level 1 aural tests are quite complicated and require a lot of training! 3 years is not a lot of time, so be patient with yourself! I'm sure you've made more progress than you realize! In an exam situation, failing the ear training component is unlikely to cause you to fail the entire exam. You will just miss out on those 10 or so marks from your total. Even if you are completely guessing, you will usually have a good chance of getting some intervals and chords correct at this level since there are only two possible answers for each! Don't stress if your ear tests don't "click" in time for your exam. It will come with time.

    Thank you! It was very helpful to know what to expect so I could prep. One question, is it mandatory to have 76 or more keys to take the exam?

    • @musicwithdiana1765
      @musicwithdiana1765 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a great question! As of this moment (May, 2021), the RCM states that "the specific condition to take a Piano practical examination remotely is 'an acoustic piano OR a 76- or 88-key weighted electronic keyboard as a substitute for an acoustic piano' for Piano Level Prep to 8." If your keyboard is smaller than 76 keys, ask your teacher or a friend or family member with a full-size piano if you can complete your exam using their instrument.
