"The rap part killed it for me" trust me, every Gorillaz fan thinks this at first, until after enough repeats suddenly something changes in your bioloical makeup
I can attest to that. I am no rap fan (Tull, E.John, Abba, Dark Tranquillity, Infected Mushroom), but this album has a special place in my collection. Listened to this on the car CD player on repeat for weeks. Love it! Plastic Beach too.
I was like that too at one point lol, have never been into rap and never will BUT i have grown to really appreciate and like the rap that Gorillaz include in their songs
RIP to Dave of De La Soul he is the iconic rapper on Feel Good Inc. Bootie Brown is on Dirty Harry. He was apart of The Pharcyde a 90s westcoast group Known for Passin Me By, Drop, and Runnin
I find a lot of Gorillaz songs to be kinda "Let them cook". There are some songs that I love from the start but even if I don't like some that much, they tend to grow on me after listening for a while or after few times.
Same. I have that feeling with many bands/artist. If I struggle with the album several times it usually becomes my favorite after having time to digest and really listen to it.
That piano solo fkn takes me out everytime. Such an amazing crescendo and a perfect blend with the rest of the instrumental. There is so much going on musically in that song, so many sounds, instruments etc and it just works perfectly. Probably my favorite song on the record too.
yeah, it's definitely meant to be cinematic. the thing about Gorillaz is that every album is a concept album that follows a story (in an abstract way). you can go on a deep dive into Gorillaz lore for HOURS, there's a whole saga that the characters representing the band have been going through since the start.
I think you win the prize for the most highly entertaining reaction video I've seen. For it to be on one of my favourite albums (been listening to it for 19 years holy shit), and seeing how much you're all enjoying it, is so fricking amazing. When you went nuts over White Light you made me sooo happy.
Demon Days is like the Wildest night of your life. It starts off a bit scetch and weird, but then gets Amazing, and they bring you home in the end. You're just left there staring at the ceiling thinking. Goddam!
Gorillaz is my favorite band, but honestly, when you said these guys touched gold, I think the gold they touched is Danger Mouse. He produced the entire album and every single track just bleeds his style, just listen to some of his other stuff and you'll know what I mean. Gorillaz and Danger Mouse was a god-tier duo
How the hell have I listened to this album so long and not known Danger Mouse is responsible, I fuckin' love Danger Mouse, his Karen O and DOOM colab albums are so damn GOATed, no wonder.
Omg YES 100% Danger Mouse. Didn’t know about him at the time but as I got older and he produced Black Keys and Broken Bells.. so on.. then one day a few years ago I was listing to the entire album and it clicked .. 😎
Gorillaz is a fictional band, all the vocals and music are done by Damon Albarn (from the band Blur) and a bunch of guest musicians he brings in on every album
Very important to know this when listening to Gorillaz. Damon Albarn is basically the musical genius behind them with vocals and instruments, bringing in other artist. And Jamie Hewlett creates the artwork and story behind the albums.
@@anthonyalienz hes basically produces a bunch of people working and creating the songs - less so on the newer stuff except sound machine. if u watch any docs its very much a collab situation
You never forget the first time you experience Demon Days. Their first album is still maybe my favorite from them but this album waa insane, on a whole other plane of existence.
veteran gorillaz listener but one of my favorite tracks is fire coming out of the monkeys head. it's like a little break from the madness and its a great story
The way you guys just lose control and start moving during White Light is exactly how I used to be at 14 in my room listening to it, made feel happy and nostalgic. This album is very special to me.
absolutely goated review 😂😂😂😂 you guys are gonna love Plastic Beach. Demon Dayz will forever be my fave Gorillaz album tho & my fave closing arc to any album
this album owes so much to danger mouse's production. i don't think gorillaz has ever been so coherent on an album the way they are on this one (i enjoy all of them, though. d-sides is a hidden gem i've been revisiting a lot lately)
I clicked on this reaction so fast. I hope yall check out some more gorillaz on this channel. A personal favourite is 'Plastic beach' but others like their self-titled album, 'humanz' and 'song machine, season 1: stange timez' all have amazing songs.
Bro its so funny how different the reactions can be to this album. White Light is usually considered the weakest song on the album (I think its underrated) but I smiled so much seeing yall jam out to it
this reaction quite honestly made me appreciate the album more, so er good job? i subscribed? please do plastic beach? this was an amazing reaction?? possibly maybe??
another album i feel is in a way similar to demon days is 13 by blur! gorillaz and blur have the same frontman (who also ends up being the mastermind to many blur songs, and all gorillaz songs).
I'm so glad to see people discovering and enjoying this album all over again. I LOVED ya'lls reaction when you hit the all-bangers region of the album and just realized.
Really enjoyed your reactions to Dare and Plastic Beach - made me smile when you got caught by an unexpected twist - Damon Albarn is so good at producing music that can draw on multiple influences and take a song in 10 different directions - all at once! The man is a Genius!
The beauty about Gorillaz is the type of music that doesn’t have to cater to a type of music or image. Like if a band has a rock or country or pop which has a standard structure. Total freedom as music creators. I also want reiterate that Plastic Beach next. Will even bring up that Snoop and so much more is on that album
Gorillaz is one musician and one animator. They feature underrated artists to portray other members of the "band". De La Soul, MF Doom, and Del The Funky Homosapien are some of my favourite collabs. they also get celebrities sometimes like having Bruce Willis in a music video and Jack Black in another music video, also Snoop Dogg has been in multiple songs.
you got my sub just from your honesty. Some of those songs that i now love i too once didn't like the start of many of these but giving it the time to evolve really makes for some great music imo
It was such a pleasure watching you all experience this record for the first time. Watching you all get into the flow rather than getting caught up in analyzing each song individually. It nearly brought me back to the first time I heard it. Thanks for that.
The thing that everyone experiences with Gorillaz albums and songs (because everything is so fuckin different from each other) is: *First listen* "Man, that didn't really do it for me. I miss the old Gorillaz." *Fifth listen* "Okay, I can vibe with this." *Twentieth listen* "This is the greatest thing I have ever heard in my life. I am sorry I doubted you, Damon Albarn." I have experienced this with every singled of their albums hahahaha
22:48 they did actually record some of the recording process for Demon Dayz! They released a documentary (it’s available on YT) called Bananaz. It’s got some film from their performances and bts on Demon Dayz, D-Sides and some other stuff. Super neat!!
The visual aspect of Gorillaz is also important. Their videos are a story in themselves and very well conceived and delivered. Highly recommend a dive into their video catalog.
Demon Days always makes me emotional, nearly teared up multiple times watching y'all react to it, I haven't heard the whole album in quite awhile and it's such an emotional journey
I love how the single bit of glare appeared just in time for Demon Days it looked planned! I thought they edited it in. Great reaction guys Ill be back for 'Plastic Beach' and maybe if you are looking for newer stuff I think 'Song Machine' is one of their best newer albums.
Definitely Plastic Beach next. Gorillaz changed the scene in the 2000s, their first album was very much experimental. With this, they changed the game and created the best genre fusion album ever. Then, they did it again 5 years later. Demon Days is why I’m into so many different styles of music. Unreal.
When the 59:00 min mark hit, it was as satisfying as if I wrote it, just to see all my other dudes come alive. Just started watching your all's channel, but it's priceless.... Hope you're still at it, and all is well.
Dare features Sean Ryder from the Manchester band Happy Mondays. He was meant to sing there but his accent pronounced it dare. It's coming up was Sean asking for the volume in his headphones to be increased and they kept it on the track.
this album is a journey for sure, i have a hard time hearing any song from this album without having the itch to listen to the whole album edit: love that white light just triggered that party out of no where, thats exactly how i feel every time it comes up

We love how the man on the left how he had 'the gorillaz effect' so many times, he didn't like it at first and then by the end loved it. It's literally called the gorillaz effect
