This list is entirely based on my opinion. You may not agree with my choices but I have tested these models here on the channel and I have tried my best to rank them as accurately as possible.
I have taken into account things such as price, performance, what you get in the box, durability, looks, value for money and most importantly FUN!.

I hope you enjoyed this Top 10 List! HBX are producing some great RC cars lately and I am very impressed! I see lots of you wondering why I didn't include the v2 WLTOYS Brushless 124016 & 124017 on the list and some of you even think the 124016 v2 deserves the no 1 spot! Unfortunately even though the cogging issues have been fixed I still find it hard to support a product that was bad from the start. WLTOYS released the V1 which so many fans were waiting for only to be let down by serious cogging issues resulting in them making the v2! But what about the V1 owners? Well they were stuck with a product far from perfect. For this reason and in my opinion I dont feel the v2 brushless WLTOYS should be no 1!

I was smiling as I watched the video, because I have a brushless converted 144001 and newly aqquired SG 1601 (AKA HBX 166889)!
Which one do you like more?
@@williamperri3437 Well that's a tough one...if I really had to choose, I'd go for my 144001. I am biased as I've had that for over 2 years now, it's on its 3rd set of electrics (don't ask...upgrades), I've spent many hours tinkering on it, working on it, wrenching, cleaning, ect. The 144001/124019 platform is for tinkers, people who like to mod and upgrade their rigs, and like more precise handling rigs.
The 168889 platform is a true, no fuss, strong, basher platform, for people who don't like to always tinker/mess around, don't need racer style handling, and really beat their cars.
The 16889 is tougher out of the box, and you don't really need to "set it up". The 144001 platform is still tough, but the high quality flexible plastic HBX uses is super durable.
If you get a 144001/124019 ect. it is recommended that you adjust the toe and camber front and rear for best handling, grease the diffs for traction and max life, and make sure your shocks aren't over or underfilled.
Both are great cars, it just comes down to what kind of driver you are, and what you do to your cars and what you want out of them. Feel free to ask me more!

Have the hbx 16886 and a 16889. The spectre is overall a better car with a very precise steering, metal gears, slipper clutch and a lasting battery. The 16889 is the small king for bashing though. For the price, when I was a kid it was impossible to find anything remotely as good as this new cars. Will buy the 901a one of this days because it's brushless and probably a 12885 because it looks like the spectre but bigger and a 550 motor. Great video!

Hey man, totally new to RC cars, any suggestions on a good cheap beginner car? I would mainly use it on the pavement, with perhaps some dirt/sand surfaces this summer. I don't need it to be a complete basher, but I'd like it to take a little bit of a beating.
@@dabearcub the SG1603 is a great pick. But for a bit of a basher the Flyhal FC610 is hands down toughest for the money
Good stuff mate, Have you got any Tamiya models yet? got myself and the stepson a Tamiya race truck each for christmas, the go for about 250aud including motor and ESC, not as cheapr as these but a lot of fun!
I have the hornet which I built a few months back. It was nice to experience a Tamiya kit but I think they are just a little too old school for my liking. Long time mate hope your good!
16889 is the brushed version ( about 53$ ) 16889A is the brushless version ( ~110$ the link in the description ) and the 16889A Pro is the brushless version ( can be found about 150$ ) with oil filled shocks and metal upgrades.

I can tell you the flyhal knock off is built just as well , comes with two bats and is way cheaper. Best 16th scale for the money.
I've got Flyhal fc610 from some time and it's really awesome. It has three metal diffs, and runs very well 👍 Recently i"ve ordered little bigger wheels and pair of metal oil shocks (one is leaking) Thinking about 3s battery now. Cheers from Poland!

Ok i been watching your reviews and no wonder you haven't have any reviews on VRX racing RC's and FS Racing line up. They may be around 200 usd but I should say it can compete with speed on those Expensive ones.
I just need a few of these to armor with plates and spikes so they can run them into each other (the cars) on the polo field. It's very flat as you can imagine, few to no rocks. I'll have to work on a way for them to not get immediately destroyed, my only concern is rolling because having to run out onto the field to flip them back over every now and again is going to be a chore. Do you think I could get away with using the cheaper toy store cars for this purpose since they don't have any of the special components? I just want speed, durability and minimal rolling given the armor. They'll likely only be used 8 hours a month. Thanks for the breakdown.
Hi I would like to buy a monster truck 1/10 for my son, I don't care that it is brushless, but he has to use it in the garden.
I'm undecided between flyhal fc610, flyhal x04, and wltoys 104009.
Could you advise me and tell me the differences, especially between the two flyhal models?
Are the spare parts those of other models?

2 for my kids and 1 for myself that's getting brushless set up so I'll let you know how it goes once built as I haven't seen vids doing that just yet

Just got flyhal 17 miles out of the box nice frist truck 85 dollars not bad
Since china Rc doubled prices, I would consider a Tamiya TT02 because of part availability since a long time and for the next 100 years and lot of 1/10 compatible bodies.
I only have the Wltoys 14001 Purple RC but it doesn't seem China RC's have doubled in America. More expensive but not doubled
HBX 901A being the same price as 124016 V2 is kind of crazy ( yes you can find 124016 V2 for 150$ ) , considering the speed gap ( 42km/h vs 65km/h stock and 75+ on 3S) and the lack of adjustment to the camber or toe in/out and that wltoys have HUGE aftermarket support for parts.

The v2 124016 may be faster with more adjustments but be cant forget why the v2 exists. The V1 was a huge failure for wltoys. This list is based on my personal opinion and the HBX 901a was perfect out the box and requires nothing else to have a great time. I am also hearing of some V2's having ESC issues.
Good point! But bear in mind, the HBX 901A is more durable, given the tried and true plastic that HBX uses. The 124016 V2 is great for faster, slightly less abusive bashing, and also great for the tinker, like me. I love Wltoys and all (I have a brushless converted 144001 basher), but I have to say that HBX cars are just a little more durable (so I've heard and seen, still testing out my new SG 1601 which is a HBX 16889 rebrand)
I would 100% say the hbx 901a would win in a durability test against the 124016 v2! The plastic is so soft and flexible. The 124016 will be heavier as more metal and as we know metal bends compared to plastic which will flex 😏
@@beyondRC not sure about the durability test .. my 124018 was ran over by a 2 ton SUV and the only damage was a crack in the roll cage and a slight bend CVD.

Don't forget that Ali express doesn't include the tax in the price so you need to add another 20% Americans may be used to this system as things in the shops are priced without sales tax which is then added attention check out. To the rest of us this system is CRAZY as the price should include tax,you should know exactly what you are paying not see one price on the item then be given a different price when you go to pay.
That's why Ali Express often looks cheaper than Banggood but as Banggood prices include the tax there usually isn't much difference.
Obviously, v1 failed, but v2 came out quickly, and v2 is very good now. But I respect you. They should have solved it carefully. It's unfair to the person who purchased v1. Please continue to evaluate it correctly.

I just got the hyper-go gps truck broke within 5 minutes. The front left drive shaft stripped and broke the plastic hold

Now that the WLtoys 144010 (brushless) is available. What do you think about it? Is it better than the 144001?
Well it's faster out the box,but most people upgrade their 144001 to brushless anyway, so it really depends if you're going to be happy with the 144010 rtr performance straight out the box? If you are then get that ,but if you're looking to put your own electrics in then buy the cheaper 144001 as you're going to be putting your choice of motor ,esc, servo ,so why pay more for the same buggy ?

Good list. The buzz on the 124017 v2 is pretty good, could have been an interesting choice instead of the eat14. Good list though! Get well soon!
I have one and its fucking awesome, cogging is none at all now and range is reallly good
bro get a 124016 V2 if you have the money (150$) , they are fucking crazy , i have a 124018 and it's amazing ! Just get an off-road tires if you want to , stock ones are not that great off-road ( but are lot's of fun in the snow )
@@anonymous00117 This is why I struggled to recommend it on this list. The V1 was a failure, the V2 is better but I find it hard to support a product that should have been great to begin with. Just my opinion.

What do you think about the WLToys 124017-124016 V2? thinking of getting one.
He doesn't review them because he's hung up on the version 1. Such a shame as version 2's are brilliant. At the end of the day the version 1 was still a great car,yes OK it coggs and had range issues but it's £110 ready to run straight out ghe box,hobby grade rc car capable of 40mph. If it was £300 then OK moan about the cogging but it's so cheap that you can't really complain to much with it's faults.
At least wltoys toys to on the feedback and did something about it. The version 2 is brilliant, he loves the 144001 and it's the same car but more stable as it has a longer platform making it even better than the car he raves about, so yes buy it as you won't regret it and if he'd get over his issues over v1 and would review the version 2 on it's own merits,it would AND SHOULD take top spot in this list and rightly makes the number 1 spot in most other channels who do a top 10 list of cheap rc cars
I got the udi 1603 pro for 60 bucks
Be careful ordering from Banggood. The ad I clicked on was a 16889A for $54.99 but it took me to a lower model one for $98.65. I was on my phone and didn’t see it. I tried to cancel but no luck. Oh well. Hopefully my daughter likes it.
From my experience watching these top 5 videos, the number one is always slower and seemingly not a as good as the others. Makes me believe there is a marketing scheme here.
Man, it's tough to get these prices in the US. I'm looking at Amazon and find the DeeRC one's have good reviews though so just wondering if they're a "rebranding" of others?
DeeRC isnt a great brand to be fair. I tried one of their trucks and it was terrible! Stick to Eachine, HBX, WLTOYS etc
HBX 16889 and DEERC 16889 not only look similar but even share same model is why I was thinking it's a rebranding??
If searching on Amazon, give Laegendary a look. Recently picked up the 1:10 4x4 Legend truck for just under $130. And it's built well and fun to drive. Oil shocks and metal drive train. Im considering grabbing their Thunder model next.
I do like these cheeper rc,s but as some folk have said the parts are a pain and mostly in China if not there on ebay but uk sellers charge a fortune for cheep china parts its frustrating when you want it fixed quick but your on a budget witch these cars are all about

Wltoys 124017v2 and 124016v2 SHOULD take top spot,this list isn't a true reflection as you don't include the best cheap rc car in it.
You rave about the 144001 and these are exactly the same just bigger and faster, with the bigger platform making them more stable, so if you love the 144001 you'd love the 12th scale as they are better. Take the version 2 on it's own merits not judge it because it's predecessor had problems.
When you think about it,were v1 really that bad ? It coggs and had range issues but come on,a hobby grade rc ,40mph capable straight out the box for £110 is still a great buy,if it cost 3 times the price then yes ,you can really complain but for it's price the v1 was still a great buy. Most reviews still gave the v1 the thumbs up,just saying that there were problems but the good outweighs the bad.
At least wltoys took the feedback on board and did something about it,improved the range and solved the cogging by gearing down to 19t pinion which improved the acceleration and any top speed that was lost was made up by giving it a more powerful 4300kv motor and 60amp esc. The version 2 is brilliant, it's better than some cars costing 2 or 3 times the price and really can't be beaten at it's price point.
Come on,make a true list including all cheap rc's, as it's exactly same as the 14th scale but longer giving it a more stable platform and brushless, running at about 42mph on 2s and 55mph on 3s straight out the box, it can only be better than a car you love.
If you tested v2 and were completely honest I bet it would be number 1 or 2 on the list
If you check my replies on this video and some of my other wltoys related videos you will see it was a matter of opinion and principal. This is about the 10th time I have had to write out this exact comment... but here goes..
I chose not to support wltoys with the v2 models as the v1 was a failure. Correct
Did they fix their errors? Yes quite soon after release of v1
My issue with them and v2:
It's a matter of personal choice not to support their wrong doing as some quick quality control would have pinpointed the cogging straight away.. instead they throw any of electronics into the 144001 roller and hope for the best.. release it to the world and enjoy the profits.. unfortunately this was a huge failure for them.
Some v1 owners pre orders were still being processed when the v2 was released leaving these people with a rubbish cogging mess.
Wltoys replied to many complaints offering an upgrade package for £50/$60 on top which the buyer had to fund not them. Totally unfair and not a good way to look after customers meaning some people were paying close to double for a budget truck so many opted not to do this but fit their own electronics.
I have tested a friend's v2 and also the 144010 which was awesome and the same electronics as the v2 models so I have no doubt in my mind they are good.
I chose not to support them for my own reasons that I don't expect everyone to understand but it's a matter of principal and standing by the v1 owners when it could have all been avoided with a quick 5 min test in the back yard of the factory.. terrible QC
Yes some channels praise them.. I'm not here to copy other channels and a lot of people appreciate my opinions and my choices which is why my channel has gone from 0-almost 20k subs in just over 2 years which is a feat in itself but shows people appreciate a channel which doesn't follow the crowd and goes against the grain..
Hope you get where I'm coming from here dude nothing against the v2 just my choice and lots of people have supported me (mostly v1 owners and pre orders)
@@beyondRC I get your points about wltoys, BUT my point is that it's WLTOYS that are at fault NOT version 2. So it doesn't make sense for you not to include them when you include other wltoys models. I would COMPLETELY understand if you took a stand on principle against the company and refused any of their products out of this principle. This would make sense and I'd understand you taking a stand on principle. But the fact you use other wltoys products kind of undermines your principles as it was wltoys at fault, it was the company that released a bad car taking people's money. It wasn't version 2 that did this shady move but WLTOYS, surely you can see that? it makes no sense to try and include their other products but then take a stand against a particular car ,I think that's why people question you and you will no doubt have to keep telling people the same thing.
Take a stand on principle against the company THEN I think most people will respect your decision but to take a stand against a particular model in the range ( that happens to be the best ) doesn't make sense .
Then you could say,this is a list of the best cheap rcs NOT including wltoys, that's fair enough BUT if you are making a list of the best cheap rc 's the list NEEDS to include all the best cheap rc's otherwise it's not a true list.
Again it's not a personal attack against you,but I think a very genuine point,your complaint is against the company for taking people's money while knowing the problems and the fact the people that bought v1 lost out. Fair play to you ,take a stand DON'T include ANY wltoys cars because of your stand against the company but it's not really a stand against them on principle ( like you claim ) when you include some of their range and not others. It should be all or nothing my friend, don't have any wltoys on your channel or include them all,one or the other

@@beyondRC No but you're still missing the point, at first I did feel strongly as you're quite a respected channel and there may be people new to rc that make a purchasing decision based on your video so I felt it was only right to include all the options for them.
BUT then you explained about taking a stand on PRINCIPLE, which i can totally respect ..BUT you're not really taking a stand on principle by including other wltoys models. It was the company that ripped people off so you shouldn't include any of their cars,I'd respect that,a man standing up for his principles ,but you MUST be able to see that it was wltoys that ripped people off so taking a stand against 2 models in the range makes no sense. Stand up for your principles and ban all wltoys from your channel, it's the company at fault after all
Great company and love their products including 144001. V1 disaster. V2 not supporting out of choice. New brushless 144 awesome and no doubt the new infraction clone will be quite good too. Principle to me doesn't mean disregarding an entire brand that i have supported since the start of my channel.. Simply the v1 horror..don't expect you to agree dude and I'm a busy man to keep replying haha have a good day and feel free to watch the 'other channels' if mine offends you 🤷😉
Clearly missed ranking the 124016/7 v2. They are far superior than 9/10 of this list.
The v2 124016/7 only exist because the v1 was such a failure. Wltoys should have got the v1 models right from the start but due to lack of quality control and testing they shipped long awaited products which were far from perfect. I simply can't support a mistake like that. I am hoping for great things from Wltoys in 2022 to restore my loyalty to their brand. I was a long time supporter of Wltoys and recommended many of their older models. Just my opinion
@@beyondRC Good point, it still is an awesome rc car. Hbx sure makes fun cars. 2188a is too a great one I think should be close to the top 10 in terms of fun per dollar spent.
