    Today we take a look at the 5 things to consider before buying your first RC as a Beginner!
    0:00 Intro
    1:38 Electric, Petrol or Nitro?
    5:55 Kit, ARTR or RTR?
    8:49 Brushless or Brushed?

    So i recently did a poll and a lot of my subscribers and regular viewers have been asking for beginners guides or just RC guides in general covering many different topics or areas of RC.
    I was considering doing an in depth RC guide but i think doing videos like this are more fun and hopefully less boring for you guys!
    Today we cover some of the frequently asked questions by beginners and this video is aimed at beginners so you enthusiasts or pro's out there feel free to skip this one as you will more than likely not learn anything.!!
    If you are new to the hobby and have no clue where to start hopefully this video will give you an insight and some information you can take along with you in your RC journey.
    There are so many options available to a beginner that it can become confusing and not knowing where to start will almost certainly mean beginners will end up getting frustrated and bored of this amazing hobby before they have given it a fair chance.
    What was your first RC? When did you get into the RC hobby? Anything else to add?
    Drop a comment down below!
    Cheers guys and see you on the next one!

    My very first r/c was a Tamiya Grasshopper. I've had so many R/Cs back in the day from the Lunchbox, Clodbuster, Ultima, and Lazer. I used to race about 30 years ago with a Tamiya King Cab. The last cars I owned before having them stolen was and Ofna Jammin buggy and a Losi Matt Francis edition XXX-T. I currently only have a Losi JrxT on a shelf as decoration and for memories of the past.

    I got a RC10T Sport in 1995. With mechanical speed control, 540 motor, Duratrax 1500mah battery, Hobbico 5amp charger. It was a kit; I'm 15 with no local hobby shop, no Google search/TH-cam video to help. That RC took about a month to fully complete. I remember my grandpa buying 1st upgrades from tower hobbies-- ball bearings, 14turn modified motor, Tekin 410 esc and 1700mah battery. That 1st fresh pack with upgrades installed.......😃 the dirt roost & dust ☺ loved RCs ever since!

    Going to watch, hoping that you cover my #1 when expanding my family of RC quads, planes, or cars - I really hope it's in your list, as not many cover it...
    _watching_
    Ok, great points, BRC, but I would like to add one for someone with similar concerns to my own. I have over 50 Lithium batteries, the vast majority of which are 1300-1500mah 4S packs for my racing quads (3 min flights!). I have 3S and 4S Li-Ion and Li-Po packs in 1500, 2200, 4000, and 5200mah for planes, as well. Specific 2S LiPos for UMX Planes, and 2S Li-Ions for my FPV goggles.
    What does that tell you? Nothing, I'm afraid, so I'll explain: Logistics. If I were in the market for any RC right now, I'd ask myself: "Self, would that use a battery you already own?". If the answer is "No", you then have to weigh the benefit of having an all-new battery type in your fleet, rather than using what you already have.
    Itching for a new Micro Crawler? Did you know that UMX Planes use 2S 380mah LiPos?
    How about a brushless 1/14 - 1/10 basher? My FPV goggles love 2S Li-Ions, too. How about LG HG2 3000mah, or Molicel 4000mah 21700's?
    Going a tad faster with that touring car? Here, use one of my 130C 1550mah LiPos I use on my freestyle drones. 3S, 4S, or 6S, your choice.
    Big Crawlers use big batteries. Sometimes even split packs, just like my boat. 5000mah 3S hard pack pairs.
    And the zillion 1S sticks for Tiny Whoops also work for your FPV sleds. Or a brushed UMX planes. Or a micro heli.
    For me, one of the biggest decisions for my next build/purchase is definitely battery infrastructure. But then consider having a multi-protocol module for your radio, that saves the hassle of needing AA's in 30 different radios, when you can instead have one great radio with model memory that you take with you. FlySky Nirvana and FrSky Taranis are my only two radios, both have Jumper JP4in1 modules, and I use them for tanks, cars, quads, helis, planes, and robots. A pair of good 2-way AC/DC chargers, and balance boards that work with all your batteries, and BAM. Use a different style of connector for groups - my 4S batteries are XT60, 3S are Deans, 2S are XT30, 1S are JST.
    This method also allows me to save a TON of money for radios, batteries, and chargers I'll never use, when I can keep it simple by purchasing kits. This also has the added benefit of being able to more precisely pick parts for each build, and tailor the RC to my liking, and infrastructure.

    I loved RC as a child but we didn't have a lot of money and in those days majority were really expensive. But I do remember one of my friends having the Tamiya Lunchbox and the Hornet. I had been gifted mainly toy grade which was The A Team van and a Knight Rider K.I.T car over the years. Finally got back into RC a few years ago buying Fpv quads and planes. My first RC car since getting back into hobby was wltoys 14001. I'm now proper addicted in all aspects of the hobby and brought a few but mainly budget.

    • @beyondRC
      @beyondRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love that man. I also had toy grade stuff whilst others had the tamiyas and higher end stuff but still enjoyed every aspect of it. You don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy RC. The 144001 is the perfect example of that 😁👍

    • @scottjackson1812
      @scottjackson1812 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beyondRC Yeah back when I was a kid it was so expensive to get into if you wanted something good. How things have moved forward its made it far easier and some of these budget are really good especially the 14001 and after watching your review and a few others I purchased the 124019 or whatever its called. I think both are amazing and to get 30mph out of a brushed motor is incredible and yeah your right you don't have to spend a fortune to have fun. Myself and my nephews had a blast we all had a budget rc and was bashing into each other. I do think places like Banggood, Aliexpress have really helped, you have to wait a little longer, not everything is really good on there but there are some awesome little gems. I never try to stick to one thing as you know the RC hobby is massive so I like to try all aspects. I have mainly budget but did treat myself to Redcat Gen8 Axe. I did buy a dji mavic Air2 also just because I have always been interested in photography and to be able to get aerial pictures and video is awesome. I am proper addicted to Rc now thanks to you and few others on TH-cam haha.

    My first true RCs were a Tamiya midnight pumpkin and a Tamiya buggy. I was 7 or 8. In my 20s in ran nitro monsters, 1/8 buggy's and truggys, 1/10 rally, and 1/5 buggy's. Left the hobby for some years, and now I'm back on it with brushless.
    Nitros are great and a lot of fun, but you need some time to perfect nitro tuning. Brushless, the best power on a rc, and almost plug and play.

    • @beyondRC
      @beyondRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is an amazing RC history right there! I think brushless is the way forward these days. I loved nitro and petrol but the maintenance involved and care required sometimes took the fun out of it for me. These days i know my brushless RC will be sat there ready to go with a freshly charged pack or two and it is literally power on and go no tuning to worry about or carb settings. The only way to go these days in my opinion :)

    • @nelsonmarques1334
      @nelsonmarques1334 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@beyondRC but nitro was extremely rewarding. Hitting the track, and you having a better tuned engine for that day than your friends... bragging rights earned.
      Once I bought an engine from a german tuner, .28 9+2 ports, 52k rpm, 4.5hp. That thing was a beast, and 5°c difference in ambient temperature, you needed to change the glow plug and tune. Had that thing mounted on a savage X with 3 speed gearbox, and I could keep up with buggys on the track. Miss those days.

    Always thought 1/10 RTR electric buggy/rally car is best to start with. 1/10 is a nice size and you can run a buggy anywhere. I went through a period of having nothing but touring cars great fun didn't have anywhere to use them then lost interest for a few years. Now have a mix still got nowhere to run touring cars but I got a golf course for buggy bashing.

      a 1/10 RTR is definitely a good way to go in regards to size and being able to run it anywhere. I have never really got into the touring car stuff as you are limited to car parks or track. With off road RC you can go anywhere.

    I got my first RC car back in 2007. It was a 1/10 scale plaque Ford at 3:50. They had a sale going on on them, so I took advantage of the opportunity to get $100 truck for $50. I ended up giving it to my oldest nephew. It was an electric ready to run, and I think it had a brushed motor. And it had a nickel metal hydride battery. And, like you said, it came with everything I needed, but the battery was absolute junk. It didn’t last very long. My second one was a boat. Amazon has a two-for-one special for an RC Tesla cyber truck and a cyber quad as part of a two bundle package. I think I want a brushless model, because I heard they’re quieter, more powerful, and they last longer. Am I right? 15:15

      Thats the problem with nitro they are very appealing but the tuning is a massive pain especially for people new to the hobby. Electric RC is the way to go these days! Great video mate and great advice, but I think you missed one point and that is where to buy your 1st rc, I would advise people new to rc to buy from local hobby shop and not buy from an overseas seller or any website if they can. The help and advice you can get from the shop you bought your rc from is very valuable.

    • @beyondRC
      @beyondRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Brad! Excellent point and its one I did consider putting in there. I purchased my first proper nitro rc from my LHS and as you say the knowledge and experience of speaking to the shop staff was incredible. I certainly wouldn't have got very far without their advice. This is of course the best option but sadly not an option for many who may not have access to one or live in remote areas. Thats why I didn't include it I didn't want people to think they can't get into RC unless the visit a shop.
      I think the Internet, youtube and forums are a great resource these days and doesn't make LHS useless but you can certainly learn a lot from other users online now and enough to get by when it comes to the first RC purchase especially if its electric as they are the easier option over nitro and petrol.
      Excellent point and something for people to think about. If you have a local hobby shop be sure to pay them a visit as their advice will be invaluable 👍

      how much detail can you really go into without making it over complicated? Lithium polymer is better than lithium-ion/nimh batteries due to their chemistry. 3s is 11.1v and 2s 7.4v the increase in voltage will mean more speed/power!

      Similar to me, the Tamiya had an electric starter but he had to show me how to run it in,how to tune etc. Mine came with the upgraded shocks that were a pain for a noob like me, better heatsink and the same competition engine that had just won the world's. Sadly a brush with the law and a pathetic park "warden" who must have been asleep and I woke(it was a Sunday afternoon) caused my wife to put her foot down. I was literally on my own in an area that fits around 14 football pitches,a cricket pitch and plenty of space and he "banned" me in case I hit someone !!. Tried to claim someone was injured recently,pretended to call his boss but then got all threatened and called the Po Po 🤬. It put me off for a long time as Electrics were way out my budget and really just racers.

    Nice and informative video but I think you fell short on the NiMH information
    LiPO's should never be fully discharged, you will kill them, as soon as the power starts to fade change it out immediately, and for storage they should be charged around 50% for long term storage (1 month+)
    Full discharged before charging an NiMH? all of my NiMH battery brands (7 of them) all say something similar to this (It is significantly better for NimH batteries NOT to discharge them fully before recharging them or Don’t regularly discharge your batteries completely in an attempt to make them last longer. A complete discharge can actually shorten their lifespan) I'll side with a manufacturer here
