Self-Defense: Are Stun Guns an Effective Tool for Personal Protection?

  • A stun gun is a device that can immobilize an attacker by administering an electric shock. The beauty of this device is that it usually does not cause serious injury. Stun guns can be purchased online or at sporting goods stores.
In this video, we test out a variety of stun guns that we purchased. A special thanks to Israel and Benjamin for their exceedingly great bravery in stepping up and volunteering to get stunned.
My favorite pepper spray is Police Magnum Pepper Spray amzn.to/3egFAQi. I usually purchase the multipack.
Links to the stun guns that we purchased are below. There are many other varieties on the market.
    Fightsense Compact Stun Gun amzn.to/3xFajhG
Vipertek VTS Mini Stun Gun amzn.to/2TZ14ud
    Police Stun Gun amzn.to/2ULiLNA
    Sabre Stun Gun amzn.to/3yV3ysh
    Vipertek VTS Stun Gun amzn.to/3r51QBW
Sabre Tactical Series Flashlight Stun Gun amzn.to/2Vud335
Streetwise Lightning Rod Baton Stun Gun amzn.to/2U7nKZc
Thanks for being part of the solution!

I’d rather not say what my self defense options are. But I will say that I always carry two. One lethal and one less-lethal. Less lethal is always on left side, lethal on my right, so it’s much more difficult to reach for the wrong one by accident. The most important self defense is definitely situational awareness.

    • @jc.1191
      @jc.1191 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

A non lethal is always best to have, most likely to get used.

That is true I live in California. The rules and laws out here are against me. I own five guns I’m 63 years old so physically I’m not up to fight a 20 years old or 30 year old. Who’s in my house I’m just gonna shoot them, but the repercussions of me firing my weapon at an unarmed Assailant breaking into my window is going to land me in prison because of the laws out here California sucks it’s expensive and it’s all about the weak and lazy people. You work your ass off all your life by a home and yet the streets are flooded with illegal immigrants that are willing to steal your shit. I’ve been broken into twice here and never used to get in my whole life and now I have to go to a range to learn how not to kill somebody. I don’t live in the best neighborhood, but they are so many homeless people here that are not from this country it’s worrisome.

She, like most people don't normally take handguns on powerwalks in urban and suburban neighborhoods. They stated at the beginning that they do have handguns ..but securely locked up so grandkids cat access them. Most people with even a modicum of common sense understand that these don't in any way shape or form replace firearms as effective self protection but as supplemental resources for oers protection when handguns are not possible..or practical!

LOL, brave people to actually be testing these! Love it. I think we all rely too much one just *one* item or something to protect us. Yes, we have firearms and train with it, but so many things can be a self-defense tool, even our feet and hands. I like the longer stun guns like the ones you've showed because it has a greater distance between you and someone else and can certainly be used as a club! The small ones are nice for 'concealability', though. As was said in the vid, just have a plan for after you've 'stunned'...run away, whatever. Great vid.

I bought one of the guard dog side kick batons and I don't like the flimsy plastic that the shock component is attached to but I do think you can build a splint that doesn't interfere with the electrodes , so if you do have to strike with it ,you don't damage the plastic shell.

If it's legal in your state you can get a large can of saber red gel that sprays in a 360. That's what you want. It has a pistol trigger.

The video was a fun watch but genuinely I have a concern, the effectiveness will be based on a persons intent determination and mental state at the time, if someone’s intent is purely doing harm, I’m sorry to say the stun guns won’t help, because they don’t create the same effect as say a taser like ones the police use where you see the entire body locking up involuntarily or pepper spray that forces the eyes closed (providing a quality spray and solid placement of spray) or CS gas causing hard coughing.

All the bad guys are wearing black hoodies and gloves. Where are you going to zap him? And if you do zap him, you've just made an angry person even more angry. I fear the danger is having a false sense of confidence in a real-life situation. You need to incapacitate your attacker, not piss him off even more. And black belt?...would you disarm someone with a knife by grabbing it?

If you're within pepper spray range, the attacker can cover that in less than about a second and a half, so aim be true....take a class. You have a powerful stun gun and you do risk zapping yourself, but that sound....for a warning, i don't know what the stats say is better, but either one is better than nothing. @@TheProvidentPrepper I'm not a lawyer, I read and study law as a hobby during the winter months. It runs on the theory that if you use less than lethal means to stop an attack, real or perceived, you did not belief your life was in danger and that there was a non-violent solution. The same reason a person shouldn't warn an attacker before defending oneself. The issue with the legal system is that if that attack is able to get away from you, then you are as much the attacker in the situation. Things get really mess, fast. This is more of an issue in civil than criminal cases. I'll state the sad truth that it is easier to defend yourself in court against a dead attacker than a live one.

@@cleodumas2581 I am speaking to the legal reality of life. How you perceive the world and how the legal system sees the world are totally different. One of the best pieces of advice I received as a youth was that if you carry a baseball bat in your vehicle also carry a mitt and ball. Are you arrested for using a stun gun by the police? yes and/or no, a stun gun is a weapon and legally viewed as such. It will depend on the situation. Is there a chance of getting sued by the attacker....absolutely yes. So, if you're attacked on your porch and you use a stun gun, drag the attacker into the house and stick to the claim he was stunned in the house or you're screwed.
