Confession time: I learned to soap a month ago and bought a Sparkle Me Aqua duster. I was SO EXCITED when it arrived that I immediately spritzed it all over a loaf of uncut soap I had sitting in my kitchen--not noticing that my husband's motorcycle vest was hung over a chair right behind it. He had a very glittery ride the next morning.
I think you should do a "blind soap challenge" where you have Kenny or someone blind fold you and you randomly pick out 3-4 colors of micas, a fragrance and a glitter to make a soap. Then once everything is picked out (before you see your choices), Kenny decides if you get to make a low top or high top with said stuffs.
I was literally thinking these colors are giving me 90's windbreaker vibes and then you guys mentioned a roller rink and I was like OMG yes! I am living!
My husband is sitting in the dining room chuckling saying "Who is this chick???? I love her inflections, are there any more videos of her?" I think you got a new subbie.
The first soap is like an ink blob test: *Everybody sees something differently* This is why all of Katie's soaps are -nice- outstanding and unique I saw a pug.
What I love about Katie is that she doesnt get too worked up about a small mistake or something of that sort when it comes to the soap making. You could tell when she was piping that she has to do some fixing when the soap wouldnt come off the piping bag at the end, but she kept on giving advice and fixed it and still made it look nice. She is so put together yet so relaxed I guess you could say. It's incredible.
Without a doubt, I'm getting this soap just because she referenced one of my favorite films, The Dark Crystal. I'm so so so excited!!! 😁 That made my day! Thank you, Katy and crew!
Extra fine activated charcoal provides great black coloring and the clean up is so much quicker than black oxide and no staining. If extra fine is too expensive, you can use an herb grinder to grind down coarse activated charcoal.
Your entire discussion on parameters really struck a chord with me. I know every time I embark on a creative adventure I overwhelm myself with the number of directions I could go in and I end up not making any progress at all. It's very unsatisfying. When I have deadlines I come up with some amazing results and actually complete projects. This soap is fantastic! I love how vivid it is! I definitely felt called out...my wallpaper's been the same for MANY months LOL

I very much appreciate your incite on keeping the 'creative flow' going! It can be very difficult when there are so many options. I do commission work and sometimes it can be hard creating when I don't have a parameter. Maybe I need to give myself some guidelines instead of so much freedom. Very valuable to hear from someone who has been through it and also has it incorporated into their work.

On top of that you just made up a new beautiful swirl thechinique! What I didn't expect was some deep heartfelt advice from the dutchess of suds herself on having a creative career and managing your own business. So thank you. From the bottom of my heart!
I think what you said about needing parameters is some of the best advice I’ve ever head. Definitely hit home with me. I’m always trying to have the best idea ever and be super inspired and I end up thinking whatever I come up with isn’t good enough so I need to top it and then I don’t have anything when the time comes. But when I’ve had to work with restrictions, it’s so much easier and I usually end up with a final product I’m proud of with waaay less stress. I’m going to start paying attention to that more and giving myself some parameters. Thank you!!!!

Hello Katie and Kenny, this has got to be an awesome soap. I stopped about 2 minutes into the video just to leave a comment. The colors are amazing swirled throughout that black is gonna be gorgeous. That's before I've even watched the rest of the video. I'm glad that you addressed the fact that you were pouring your Lye solution down the side of your Square containe, rather than down The shaft of your blender. To me, it makes more sense Pouring it down the side of the container, As it seems it would cause less risk of splashing versus pouring it down this shaft of your blender which can , but not always, but can cause splashing if somebody new where to do it the wrong way. Like from a higher altitude than someone experienced would do. You never know. Thanks for all the great videos you guys are awesome can't wait to see more of Kenney's videos as well. And I'm really liking the idea of just learning new techniques. That is something that I as a soapmaker am challenging myself with every day. I do have to say the last couple of weeks I have done nothing but move into my new house with my new studio . I finally have a studio where I can start creating my own videos and my own soaps in a lot better area than I had before. watch out Katie here I come lol I could never be as good as you guys but I can sure give it a good try. Okay, I’ve had this soap for about a week.... omg it’s amazing. Mine was very black on the inside, and it did look “muddy” when using it, but wow! It smells so amazing! My friends love it too! We don’t dry out like we thought we might, and the fragrance is very refreshing. I don’t mind the fact it came out black - I also brought a Rainbow Brite which is also a black swirl soap! Again, huge rave, that citrus is very “okay let’s go”! Happy vibe. The downside? To Northern Alberta, two bars of soap was over $50 after shipping and conversion. I do not regret my order, but I don’t think I could do it again. Each soap batch is diffe
I wasn’t expecting an advice bomb in this video and it helped me realize a lot that can further help me. Thank u for the tip when it comes to scheduling to creative needs. Also this soap totally takes me back to roller blading and Friday nights at my home town’s bowling center. They had these colors and black light on the whole night.
