    Wow, I love how that M & P melted in the saponification process and made the clear black look like a shadow around the moon when he hardened again! Bet you didn't think *that* would happen! What a cool effect! I saw that ricing on the pour and could just imagine the cuss words going through your head (I know I would have been saying some not so choice words!LOL) But ya rolled with and it came out gorgeous! That color combo is awesome! Where do get these ideas from woman?! Beautiful effect from the ricing, I can't even... LOL Mine would NOT have come out like that. Hope you had a good Christmas (or whatever you celebrate, if anything) and have a great New Year! The Sky is the Limit!

    Very nice soap. I'm curious about the ricing though. This one riced really bad and you just kept on going. I know this is a big valuable batch, but what does it do the integrity of the overall soap product if anything? I've aways seen soap makers stick blend it away but what happens when its just left in there like that? I've never encountered ricing just yet so I'm checking to see what to do for my own future reference. Actual question and no disrespect intended at all.

    • @OpheliasSoapery
      @OpheliasSoapery  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It doesn’t affect the finished product at all. It can just be a ugly chunky mess. I would have stick blended it to smooth it out but the colors would have mixed too much. It doesn’t happen to me too often. Some fragrance oils just do that 😭

      It still works as soap, but it doesn't look pretty, except in the case of this soap haha. I think it's a bigger problem if the colors of the bar are very light, as the chunks/uneven texture is more noticeable.

      Ricing is when the hard oils/butter harden up and cause little chunks of what looks like, rice. It's caused by the Fragrance Oil and is just a reaction that some can cause. You won't know it happens with your particular recipe until you try it. (though reading about the fragrance oil is always a good thing.) Sometimes it happens right away once you put the fragrance oil in and you can usually just use your stick blender to smooth it out again with no problem. Julie couldn't do that though, because she'd already poured most of the batter into her "in the pot swirl", and it looks like it waited to rice on her, which sometimes happens. She did an awesome job of just rolling with it, which left a watercolor effect in the soap. And as she stated in her answer, florals are notorious for causing problems like ricing, and acceleration of the batter.

    • @laurens3857
      @laurens3857 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ricing was when the soap got chunky after she poured it over the moon embeds. It just makes it look chunky kind of like rice.

    I have a question. I make soap’s but I’ve never experienced ricing before. I thought just by what I’ve heard other soap makers say that u have to blend the ricing out and if u can’t not to use that batch of soap of that part of the batch that has the ricing due to the fragrance oil in it. But u didn’t blend it out or throw the batch out. The soap looked beautifully fine to me. The bars came out beautiful even though the ricing wasn’t blended out. If this was to ever happen to me which I’m sure it will sooner or later , but can I still use the soap?

    • @OpheliasSoapery
      @OpheliasSoapery  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s totally fine to use. You would want to blend it out only because it’s ugly looking. Since all my colors were poured. If I blended it the colors would have mixed together. But yes. It’s totally fine to use :)

    This mold is not as “moon” as when you used to use the mini cookie cutter. These molds don’t have that lovely crescent like your hand punched ones did. Although, this absolutely must be easier than when you had to punch them out individually and then form your own long stacks. Hopefully they will make a more defined moon 🌙 shape that better copies your perfect crescents .

      It takes about 5 minutes to melt. I do not wait and let it get cooler. It’s around 90°F after it’s all melted and the room temp oils are added.

      It’s a thermometer to check the temperature of the oils :)

    OMG I LOVE IT!!! Please which mica powders do you use? I noticed some are liquid already? Also, what temperatures are your oils when you start to mix?

    You are magical with the way you design your soaps. I mean you just dump a bunch of colored soap in the black add a moon and BAM! Amazingly perfect masterpiece!

    Do you make any soaps w/o a premade base (as in you mix your own oils and lye water solution?) And if so do you label them as such? (Concerning your embeds) also are the embeds easily removable?
    (I've have a ton of allergies and some of the melt and pours break me out due to something being used in them)

    • @OpheliasSoapery
      @OpheliasSoapery  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All my soaps are made from scratch. I list all ingredients on the label. This soap I used a premade melt and pour base for the moon. This soap is sold out and no longer available. I do not use melt and pour in any of my soaps anymore.

      @@OpheliasSoapery oh awesome good to know :) not that I knock anyone who uses a melt and pour for embeds, I just have super sensitive skin and I suffer from a lot of allergies :(
      I don't know why commercial soaps and my skin don't get along, or why some melt and pours do it.
      I just want to stay clean 🌛🌜

      No the moons were melt & pour only. And the base was cold process.

    This reminds me of Starry Night. The black at the bottom reminds me of the outlines of the town in his painting, then the colorful sky above.
