Probably the most powerful feature of Reaper's latest update, especially useful for fine tuning substractive EQ and compression ! Thank you for featuring it so quickly in one tutorial !
When I'm asked for advice on which DAW to choose I always point out that Reaper comes with the best User Manual of all DAWs and he's called Kenny Gioia.
Delta solo is my favorite new feature in the mix but especially when mastering where I can quickly make the compressor "lock" in the groove of the mix with the right attack/release settings. One of the reasons I like the Kotelnikov GE was the Delta Solo feature of this plug. Now I have it for all the rest of my compressors. Reaper is quickly becoming my favorite DAW.
@@iainmackenzieUK the "correct" (depending on what you want to do) settings on the compressor make the Delta solo output sound the least choppy. Start by gain compensating the output of the compressor for whatever gain reduction you dial in, as a starting point for the release time, do 60.000/BPM of your track to get the quarter note, in msec and then divide that result by 2 or 4 for 8th or 16th. Then go with what you hear, but remember to keep the gain compensated to get a clearer picture of what the compressor is doing.
Wow, just wow! It keeps getting better and better, especially for someone who’s not always sure of what he’s hearing (or doing) 🤪. Thanks again Kenny - this feature is genius!
Holy sh!t... this should be step ONE of learning in reaper for anyone now! It will save SOOOO much time for beginners to a DAW. I so easily get lost on EQ and compression tutorials for a solid year trying to "tune" my ears to understand what was really happening. and then questioning every single thing I was doing along the way. this simple feature gets rid of the "voodoo" of whats going on with ANY plugin and makes it plain as day the actual effect.
Thanks Kenny and the Reaper team for all you do! Your tutorials have been amazing and I've been able to record and release 7 songs thanks to all of you. Just started this year after a very long hiatus as a musician. All of the songs were accepted on Pandora and are played there now. There is so much to learn and I love how each subject is broken down and can be searched for when needed. Keep at it!
every day reaper just gets better and better. sweet baby jesus. also, can kenny get some praise for the RAD mixes he uses his tutorials on? top notch stuff.
You know what this is really great for? De-essing! Turn on that delta solo, listen to the S's getting taken out, switch back to see if it's too much. I can now confidently de-ess my narration videos. Same with setting a gate. I can visually get very close to the right gate value, but I almost always over-gate. Turn on this feature and can bring the gate down precisely to the right value.
Great vid. I been using this feature (when I EQ) to reduce unwanted frequencies in individual tracks and on the master track. Reaper just keeps getting better and better.
I was watching this gape-mouthed and just starting to feel like a fool for not knowing about this feature after a decade or more of using REAPER. Now I can relax and feel like much less of a fool for merely glossing over the latest release notes. **whew**
Your tutorials are always awesome.I pray you stick to reaper in all your life.I will follow you to any daw you go to.Because your choices are always the best.
so powerful! Many thanks Kenny - once again :) (I think this might help me develop my compression skills - being able to hear what I am "removing" - exciting :))
Super cool feature indeed. I'm curious to know what other DAW's have this feature? i know of some specific plugins that have it like the ProEQ as well as even the JS REeq has it.
VERY revealing - and handy. But I am definitely not a friend of tucking away, or hiding, premiere features behind a right click or ALT click. Theres a lot of space in that row. Why not keep it as toggle icon right beside the volume knob? Please put it on display!
Hey KG, you've said before, that you speak, in breaks, to keep the audio content clear, for the audience. but i'm wondering, do you plan, where to pause, before, the video or, does it, just come naturally, on the fly? It's adds wonderful character to the video and is exceptional for clarity imo btw.
No. I don't plan much before I start besides running thru it one or two times. The pauses happen based on how clearly I can get the words out. If I say a phrase and each word isn't clear, I say it slower and pause so I can say each word clearly enough.
oh man...hell, even bigfoot or yeti might be hidden somewhere in Reaper - we should organize a trasure hunt party to find a spanish galleon full of gold sunk in the 15th century
Thanks for more help instructing on Reaper. I have a questiion: I use VST guitar simulamp with IR and those "airy" noise is affecting the guitar sound but cutting the high frequencies is "killing" the guitar tone. What can I do?
The feature I've been waiting for! Now I'm going to bring up Reaper and review every track that annoys me somehow, knowing that I can reveal the annoyance for what it is and eliminate it!
Thank you very much Kenny, I was wondering, how you could do this, this is a very interesting tool. Every time I learn more and more from Reaper, and it always surprises me greatly. And those sounds you use, I'm looking for these or a time. Can you give me a hint, where I can find these? Thanks again.
hmmm, the delta Δ solo signal seems way too broad... instead in this case of hearing only sub-lows... that FL Studio kick is really thumpy indeed, not much of a difference when rolling off at about ~45Hz (this case)... seemed much more equalised when it was rolled off at around ~72Hz (first attempt)

If Reaper could talk it would sound like Kenny 😎👍
LMAO yes it would! Sometimes when I forget how to do something I can hear his voice in my head "Hi! I'm Kenny Gioia....."
The thing I love most about Kenny is the cult-like following!
😂

@@nectariosm OK Nektar - that gives me something to play around with. Many thanks. I think I will be experimenting a lot with this in future
Absolute game changer! I am so glad I watch these videos before opening a session.
This is a big improvement.. Thanks Kenny for the explanation,. A big thumb up!
This is next level stuff! This option used to only be available in high level third party plugins. Now it's available for every plugin :)
This is amazing. Comparing work without fooling your ears is just made easier.
Wow, just wow! It keeps getting better and better, especially for someone who’s not always sure of what he’s hearing (or doing) 🤪. Thanks again Kenny - this feature is genius!

JS Chorus with 8 voices on a vocal? If anyone can make this work it is Kenny!
Dude! I had no idea about this feature! Super useful.
It's very new.
@@REAPERMania Ok. That explains why I haven't seen it yet. I will have to update Reaper. Been a while.
I love this new feature. Cheers Kenny. Loving the white binoc's by the way.

You always have the best Reaper tutorials ! I love it!!!!
Delta solo will be so useful to me! for sure the most amazing daw i've used!
I love how I can now use this outside of TDR plugins (and other 3rd party plugins). Such a nice feature!

great video again thanks Kenny
That's so useful, thanks as ever Kenny
THANK YOU AS ALWAYS

I hadn't noticed this feature. Cheers Kenny - invaluable 👍
Thanks Kenny 🥇
omg thank you! Oh, and what show is that beginning clip from? Is it about those women who were in a underground bunker?
Unbreakable
Awesome.
Damn i forget to do the right click on that paralel mix knob. I never knew that
I remember someone said in reaper right click everything lol
Little magic mix knob becomes even more powerful :)
LOVE this! I didn't know It.
Thanks so much Kenny🙏👌
Love it....

Delta Solo is fantastic!!! :-D
Yeah! That's exactly what I wanted. The best DAW just keeps getting better and better.
Holy sh*t. This made no sense till now. Thanks, Kenny!
The most amazing DAW i ever seen and used
Brilliant feature, takes a lot of guesswork out of sorting the fx
As always writing a comment to support the channel
I'm in club 'option on the mac' :D
Alt on the PC is lit!!!
Yeah, I need that on a T-Shirt! :-)
Thanks Kenny!
I really love all of your explanations. For mister Gioia Reaper does not have any secret !
Is it just me, or does the logo spin in the wrong direction relative to Gioia’s slap?
I think I slapped in the middle. Next time I'll slap lower. LOL
Lesson learned. Thank you Kenny!🙂😎
Delta Solo sounds like a character in action adventure movie. Every one of your tutorials is an action adventure, GrandMaster K, so it fits.
Thank You
Useful tool. The delta solo of the compression is a little hard to conceptualize lol but still insane! Your track sounds huge!
Incredible! Realy usefull!
Muy interesante. Muchas gracias. 👍👍👏👏
Thanks Kenny
I love this new feature.
wow... i fucking love reaper
Easier, faster and more precise than invert polarity of a duplicated track to get into what it means in my signals. What a Nice feature
Super cool feature indeed. I'm curious to know what other DAW's have this feature? i know of some specific plugins that have it like the ProEQ as well as even the JS REeq has it.
this has quickly become one of my favorite things in reaper
cannot wait for other daws, specially S1, to implement this. will prob be a minute tho

Never expected my mans Kenny to look like that
Kenny's like the Unmesh of the Reaper world.
That's a nice feature : )

But what happens, if I'm working with more than just one band. I'm hearing the delta solo of both of more at once? Thanks
You'll hear both. But you can always double click any of the circles for each band to bypass them so you can hear as many or as little as you want.
@@REAPERMania Okay, thanks, would be great to have another mode for hearing just the selected one. Maybe in another update.
'Unbreakable Kenny Gioia'?
Nice!
It's a miracle!!!
Are you gonna show us your 100k plaque from youtube? 😊
Just discovered this new feature and it blows my mind ;) Doesn´t it turn a compressor into a gate?
So if you throw a compressor into delta mode, doesn't it function as a downward expander?
this dudes awesome
Is this the same as putting the effect on a separate track as a send and soloing that FX track?
JS Random Modal MIDI tutorial please!
Thanks!
HI Kenny, I run Reaper v6.30 but can't activate delta solo option. I followed your video many times but nothing happens. Can you help me?
It was added in v6.37
The feature I've been waiting for! Now I'm going to bring up Reaper and review every track that annoys me somehow, knowing that I can reveal the annoyance for what it is and eliminate it!
bruhh my mind = blown ; never knew it existed 🙃🤯🤯
Don't feel bad it was just added in the 6.37 update
Is there a feature to directly import shortcuts of other daw into reaper like studio one has. If it's possible i would buy reaper the next day

That's a good question. Hmmm
Oooh, that's useful.
