Kenny, it never ceases to amaze me both how many tools Reaper has built-in but also how you use them to create other very useful tools. Mindblowing. Awesome job, thanks for everything!
Man I was thrown into the deep end, having been appointed to mix all our bands music. I had nothing but stock and stash plug-ins for a year. You have been a lifesaver!
Big part of the lesson here for me was the easy way to the plug in connector. This can be used in so many other ways. This is why I watch Kenny's vids even when I think I already know the content. Picking up tips and shortcuts for other things besides the focus of the video. Thanks for the wonderful work, Mr Mania.
This doesn't only look cool, but more importantly it's as good as those paid plugins, and it's right inside the reaper. Reaper always has something hidden inside and there's people like Kenny to uncover and blow my mind. Thank a ton mate.
I have been using Reaper for about 3 years now, and pretty much daily for about 1,5 years. I come back to this channel every now and then to refine my memory about somethings, whatever it may be, BUT everytime it just blows my mind about how much i still dont know about Reaper! You have saved me alot of money on plugins, cause i just know that there is a way to do that with Reaper Stock plugins!
Your timing is perfect, I was about to buy a dynamic EQ plugin! Once again Reaper blows my mind on it's stock capabilities. Thank you so much for your videos, they really help!
Kenny, you create stunning video tutorials, and when I think that your possibilities are getting smaller, you simply return with an even more spectacular video!!!
THANK YOU!!! I was on Waves thinking about getting the F6 and this video just saved me spending money on things that I dont need. Thanks Kenny, appreciate you my guy.
Could you use this same technique for side chaining instruments to others? For example, using the low end of a kick to duck the low end of a bass in a rock mix, if so what would you do differently than is shown in this video? Great tutorial regardless!
TDR Nova is a free and easy to use dynamic EQ. My go-to for hassle-free EQing of those pesky temporary frequencies. Does Reaper plan to release something easy and simple like this? A decent guitar distortion plugin with some modeling would be nice too (it already has some decent cabinet simulations). Love everything else about reaper. :)
Oh my goooood! Oh my goooood! That's so goood! :D :D :D Few months ago I tried Reaper and since then, I have been watching these tutorials. I was like...looks good, quite cheap, is it really good? I was thinking about buying the license but I'm very indecisive you know but after seeing THIS? I was totally mind blown and immediately bought the license. Thank you, so much! have a nice day to all af you! :-) :-)
Great stuff as usual, Kenny! You just saved me some dough. I was thinking I needed to go buy a fatbfilter or as R6 if I wanted to side chain, But then I thought… “What would Kenny do?”
It's not a noob question at all. I've heard experienced audio engineers wonder the same thing. Sometimes it comes down to which one makes more sense for you. There's often more than one way to get the sound you want.
Very effective, the dynamic eq gives a nice groove movement, thenks :-)

Thank you Kenny for this and all your other videos. It is usefull, great and fun! I have a question: How could I do the same bur dynEQ the Bass based on the Kick? Thanks again for your teachings. Best regards!
Just route the kick track to the bass track, but put it in a different channel pair other than 1+2, so maybe 5+6 for this example. Open a new ReaEQ instance and set its input and output to 5+6. This EQ will now only recieve audio from the kick. From there on, just follow the video
Umm...surely that last high-end frequency example should have also used a band-pass like the first example rather than a peak eq? The peak eq would be boosting the sidechain and a high pass had to be added to mask lower frequencies. Wouldn't need that with a band-pass.
Can a dynamic FX chain be saved like it's set up or do I have to do this manually? Btw this is so amazing. What kind of mic did you use for the guitar? I have an SM57 and want to make the most of it. Thank you for this. Cheers from sweden
@@REAPERMania huh I forgot it's possible to add channels in plugin UI, I just checked limit for output channels of ReaEQ is 64 (mono), I wonder how Reaper will deal with phase, will observe further later :)
ReaEQ isn't the best EQ there is... so yeah, it can be used as a dynamic EQ (with some fiddling as you demonstrate here) but it's not the most optimal for it in any capacity. It's still a good video to see what's possible using REAPER, but I'd just choose some free VSTi Dynamic EQ instead... or pay few bucks for one if I _really_ need it. Still, nice tutorial on using parameter automation/linkin and sidechain capabilities of REAPER.
We can also link both frequencies: sidechain and dynamic filters. Moving sidechain filter moves dynamic filter. Download from stash.reaper.fm/v/37159/Fake%20Nova.RfxChain Shared credits with Iván Ogñenovich, facebook.com/ivanao92

Why do you have to boost the frequencies first on the sidechain fx?, It works the same way if i want to boost certain frequency instead of cuting?
Thanks!
This sounds great!
Noob question - how is this different from using one band of a multi-band compressor?
Matt Heere you can’t adjust the slope. It’s not that precise and sounds different.

How exactly is using dynamic EQ like this different from using a multiband compressor?
Very useful video!
if i wanna use more bands i have to create this sidechains for more tha 3-4 channels?like 5-6 , 7-8 ... etc?
Tnx sir,,,greetings from philippines,,,,
Mr.Kenny Is it necessary to duplicate rea eq to perform this function? Could I just use one instance of req eq instead? Why Two sir? Thx
This is gold!
Hi Kenny! Faithful subscriber and Reaper fan. This is a GREAT tutorial. Question - is this your preferred method of controlling unruly frequencies?
Now, all we need to know is how to make a Gullfoss EQ with Reaper stock plugins.
Is there any relatively simple way to achieve upward compression in Reaper?
Helping me a lot!
Great idea and low cpu use

I show at the end how it's saved as an FX Chain. I used a Brauner Valvet on that guitar. An SM57 isn't really a great acoustic guitar mic IMO.
every audio material is different so there's no escape from tweaking the FX chain preset
@@ARE_YOU_SICK_OF_YT_CENSORSHIP True. But setting up the FX Chain will get you started with the routing etc.

Bad A**!! Many thanks for that tip!
yeah, why use a de-esser when we have reaper, i guess. what i wonder about: why not always set the attack to 0 in cases like this one?
this probably can't be done with more bands simultaneously due to limited channel count and no options for sidechain channel choice?
There's not really any limited channel count on a channel. It would take 2 extra channels per band though.
