Wowsers... You're way sexier in person. The man behind tha voice. I've extracted quite a bit of knowledge from you over the last couple years. This entire community is in debt to you, Kenny. One of a kind - the Yoda of Reaper...
That's the thing. Kenny isn't just some youtuber, he has tons of actual experience with audio production and engineering. He's an experienced professional and that knowledge permeates through in all his videos.
That last section on writing envelopes via this plug-in and the look ahead "compression" wouldn't have occurred to me in a million years! Thanks Kenny. Am gonna have to have a play around with that.
If I had known we had our own built-in loudness meter, I wouldn't have installed Youlean. Edit: No hate on Youlean. It's just that I don't see the point in installing third party plugins (specifically for loudness meters, spectograms, visualizers and other plugins that don't really impart anything to the sound) if I can get it as a stock.
Thanks Kenny for your dedication and all the teamwork behind Reaper!!! you make it so much easier with your tutorials, as clear as you could wish...Thanks always.
Wow! Talk about going to another level of engineering! This video is a great education and is going to take time to digest I’ve never seen any of this information addressed anywhere and have been curious about it for years. Thanks AGAIN Kenny!
ALT drag on that thin line. Neat. I need to watch some more automation item stuff. And kudos to the author of the JS Loudness plugin for including all those exceptionally useful options. I usually just need a barebones momentary indicator, just like I always just needed my old stereo RTW meter(1206 iirc) right below my video monitor when mixing. Thank you for the slick presentation. Judging by the intro I'm tempted to call you 'da guru'. Just a halo missing and an angel choir at -30.
The envelope trick is awesome. As soon as you said "export to automation" I threw my hand up like "Pick me! You're going to invert it and use a fader as a compressor!" 😗📯
Every time the LUFS alert triggers, it would be good idea to hit 'M' and put a marker on the timeline. Whoops, I typed this too soon; you showed a much better method!
Kenny is the best I'm learning slowly, I jam out and do rough arrangements in Ableton...But I want to Master in Reaper, this is exactly what I need. Love the Manuscript feature for practicing ear training...and reading. This is great, the Auto Locate was awesome. So many great tutorials, at the perfect learning curve.
My God! This is a wonderful video. Thank you very much! I used various incomprehensible methods for a very long time, but everything turned out to be so simple and was always there! Thanks again and good luck
What the hell! I didn't know about automation items or any of the features that comes with it. The automation in this tutorial changes the game completely :D
Kenny, I've seen so many videos you've made! This is the first one where I've seen your face! I don't even know what I expected you to look like, but I wasn't expecting you to look so much like me!! >
TH-cam definitely samples over a shorter time than the whole track but it is longer than the 3 seconds in LUFS-S. My testing has shown it's about 10 seconds.
Thanks so much for all the incredible work you do on these videos Kenny!! Would you please make an updated video on this meter now that they've added more meters and inverse meter outputs? I'd love to see how many more cool ways it could be used now.
The idea of using the LUFs envelope to do a kind of compression really helped me to understand what compression is doing better than I ever have before! It's really cool to see it in that way. I was wondering though, is there any reason or benefit to doing that with the envelope as you did here, rather than just using an actual compressor plugin?
Just tried it. Wow, the way you explain it made all the difference. I was looking at all the videos on your site. Could you talk a little about your website and the best way to use it? I'm wanting to buy some of the videos but don't know where to start.
Hi thanks you so much for your channel - I am excited about getting into Reaper as my first DAW. Can I please ask a question related to your previous videos of 'Drum Machine Style MIDI Recording' and 'Multi-Channel Output for the Drum Machine'? I am wondering if there is any way to use Reaper as a drum machine where I can choose and change multiple different loops in real time whilst recording them in Reaper? Or, do I have to use a separate vst drummachine plugin to do this and just use Reaper as a recorder? Any help from anyone would be highly appreciated. So far the only DAW that appears to do this is Ableton Live which I am not attracted to.
I _DID!_ I did learn something, and I intend to use this _RIGHT NOW_ 😎 Oh, and Ima use the _HECK_ outta the Volume/Pan Smoother … v5 🤠👍 Thanks, Mr. G 😊
Hi Kenny, another very usefull tutorial! I'm wondering if I can integrate (my own choice of) Lufs values in my masterbus fader view, for instance next to or instead of RME values? Normaly I'd just try it out first, but I'm not able to use my studio for a while, so just curious. I like the idea of having yellow or red lufs flags to warn you during mixing - or even tracking - without the need of a separate plugin window.
thanks for the great content. I have a question about "dry run" feature and "Loudness meter plugin". The former seems also to give us an idea of the value of LUFS-I of the entire track. If so, what is the use case of Loudness meter plugin actually? Also, I tried firstly to adjust volume of master track based on loudness meter plugin to be arounf -14LUFS-I. But when I check dry-run, it says that the value is roughly -12.1 LUFS-I ....Why are there such differences. Did I miss anything?
Great tutorial Kenny. Just one question regarding the LUFS-I: You mention it's the most important graph. Do you have a chart or some knowledge to impart about the acceptable range of LUFS-I like for Spotify, TH-cam and the other music sites?
Do you have a video on how to hook up my simmons sd7pk drumset to my pc via usb using reaper and mt power drum 2 vst plug in? I cant seem to get the drum module and reaper to set up so i see midi..i have before its been a while now im frustrated an lost please help thank you
@@globecanvas thanks for this John. Very helpful. I tend to not use the master bus too much other than a bit of M/S eq. I tend to deal with these type of “global” issues later on when mastering the stereo mix down file. Food for thought though and another gem / nugget from Kenny!
I compared the envelope that this analyzer draws with the LUFs- curve that has now been added to the items, and I noticed that the automation lags by more than 100 ms. What is the reason for this delay and is it treatable?
This is great and all, but Cockos didn't specify which LUFS standard is being used for REAPER's metering features. Does anyone have info on this? (Don't bother looking into the user guide, it wasn't even mentioned)
Wowsers... You're way sexier in person. The man behind tha voice. I've extracted quite a bit of knowledge from you over the last couple years. This entire community is in debt to you, Kenny. One of a kind - the Yoda of Reaper...
I second that that 🏅
Thrice....
Amen brother
This is by far the most straightforward explanation of LUFS I have ever seen. Thanks, Kenny!
I agree with that.
That's the thing. Kenny isn't just some youtuber, he has tons of actual experience with audio production and engineering. He's an experienced professional and that knowledge permeates through in all his videos.
Completely agreed 👍 👏
That last section on writing envelopes via this plug-in and the look ahead "compression" wouldn't have occurred to me in a million years! Thanks Kenny. Am gonna have to have a play around with that.
Lol I have been watching Kenny's tutorials for about a year and up until today he was just a voice!
Sitting here watching this stoned as fuck, and I feel like I learned more about compression than the actual loudness meter. lol
WTf bruh 😂😂
You learned something you can use. Kenny Gioia ftw!
Yeah Kenny just gave a whole ass Ted Talk about Compression in the middle of his meter demo.....
That automation bit was RIDICULOUS!!!
Really simple and to the point. Reaper is getting better and better!
Absolutely, I'm very happy that I switched after 30 years of audio editing to Reaper!!!!
wow, that last bit is going to make vocal automation so much easier
Just wait for the next video.
Everyday that goes by I love even more this software, thank you for the tutorial! Reaper rules!

It was just recently added, like couple months ago. A stock reaper limiter is also coming, it's good i deleted my other limiters for it.
@@vivenzeo What type of limiter? Aren't there already limiters among the JS plugins?

Thanks Kenny for your dedication and all the teamwork behind Reaper!!! you make it so much easier with your tutorials, as clear as you could wish...Thanks always.
Fascinating! And very helpful. I've never seen a LUFS meter used to generate automation for compression before. Thanks, Kenny.

That was mind blowing. Meters printed as envelopes to mimic compression. Amazing.
Спасибо огромное за ценную информацию. Thanks Kenny
SUPER useful plug in and video. Thanks. I didn't even know that was in JS.
What a great Meter plugin! The automation write feature is amazing. I didn't know I had it in Reaper! Thanks Kenny!

Also, Bobby Huff had a video where he was tuning the volume of specific bass notes to make them even, this plug-in could automate that process.
Wow so we could make a vocal rider out of this using envelopes! Going to try that right now. Excellent Kenny thanks.

Might be a daft question but rather than use a volume plug in why not just nudge the master volume down a little to avoid the peaks?
That would accomplish the same thing but master FX are pre-fader so the change would not show up in the metering FX.

Isn't there a JS plugin that can be embedded in the mixer panel's master track that only shows a big number (LUFS-S)? Thanks
Best advice on Reaper! But Why is he intoning the phrases in such a strange way? or is he editing his voice all the time?
Why does the integraded LUFS change, when its the Loudness over the entire signal?
