    I have only had my smart meter for 3 days but the person who fitted was very kind, helpful, and polite

    I noticed that if you have an issue with your account and Octopus have to sort stuff out like mine was ,the mini details are lost on the app and you have to reinstall.
    Very useful as it gives near instant power flow and allows me to monitor my solar energy flow without the 5 minute delay my invertor has.

      My Smart meter has lost signal to the WAN. I wonder could this be a way of transmitting Smart Meter data back to Octopus via the internet?

    Update so far...as I can see for us not saving anymore cash but showing how much we use in detail. For us don't think we can do anything more to save money bar turn everything off

    I had smart meters installed by Octopus yesterday (2nd April) and the engineer left me with just a Mini and no In Home Display unit. Which was fine by me - it's set up quickly and works fine.

      Excellent, the IHDs do seem pretty pointless to me, but appreciate not everyone geeks out about these things :)

    Very useful video. I have two questions, firstly whilst I see you need to enable bluetooth on your phone to connect initially does the mini subsequently link to your phone via wi-fi/mobile network once setup is complete allowing bluetooth to be turned off (I don't leave bluetooth on as it flattens my phone battery really fast). Also is there any evidence to show that the Octopus mini is secure and doesn't pose any risk to network security?

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching.
      Regarding the first point, after the initial setup you phone doesnt need to be connected at all.
      The second point is a good one, and to be honest I dont know. I have an IOT VLAN setup on my network, so all those things are connected there with only Internet access, so something I have slightly less concern about to be honest.

    Hi, thanks for this clear information. I have just set up ours on my phone & wondered if I can also connect to my wife's phone by using the same procedure so that we both have access?

      If you install the Octopus app and use the same credentials it should work fine.

      @@andrewdeans2179I had a issue with mine too , octopus said they still had my old smart meteron tgere system which was interfering with the new one so once the removed that and unpaired the mini I went through the reset process and it worked

    Wondering what is the point of it or the IHD for that matter. You use what you use. The same with smart meters, never seen the point in them unless you have solar panels and send excess energy onto the grid.

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Its handy if you like to track your usage, as well as understanding how much energy you are actually using. For example just last week when I took a look in the evening before going to bed I saw the house was using more energy than normal, turned out my son had turned the TV off but the playstation was still running.

    Can the Home Mini export data to other devices, such as a Raspberry Pi, for further off-line analysis

    Had my smart meter fitted two weeks ago. Last week it said I used £21 for the week. I pay between £350 and £500 a month and I have 16 solar panels. If the IHD is correct I have been being overcharged for years.

      Is your account showing as in credit though? As unless you are being billed highly based on estimated costs, the money is still available, just an inappropriate Direct Debit is setup.

    Does the mini use less electricity than the display monitor? I turn the display monitor off overnight but assume it’s best to leave the mini on all the time?

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To be honest I don't know for sure. I do have a USB energy meter, but its still boxed up somewhere.
      However, I would assume it uses less for the simple fact it has no screen to power, however you know what they say about assumptions :)

    I got mine a coupleof months ago. Theone thing I find really annoying is showing how much i'm using £££'s, for instance in Live view I can only usage in Wh. For days, weeks months and year ts just inconsistent. ie I can see costs for this week and last but not the week before, the week before that is fine. There's nothin Octopus can doapparently after multiple conversations in X. Thinking about a rPi with a small display that uses the API, or see if there's a Home Assistant addin
