Hi, I bought a 2011 LR4 in auction, head gasket, and big headache. Question; can I make a LS swap in a LR4? Or is better fix the original engine? I am a follower in all your lr4 videos
I personally would say the original engine would be the way to go. There is quite a bit more electronics integrated on the LR4 compared to the earlier Discoveries. I’m guessing it would be very complex to retain the terrain control functions along with the transfer case being controlled electronically. There are some kits out there to get an LS in one or a RRS but I think they are just the hard parts and don’t do anything regarding electrical integration. Plus the 5.0 once it is fixed with new chains and coolant pipes is a strong running engine.
THE 6L80 IS A BETTER OPTION USING THE HARNESS FROM THE ORIGINAL GM CAR, THERE ARE ADAPTERS FOR THE TL230 TRANSFER CASE, WILL HAVE TO SHORTEN THE TAIL SHAFT AND LENGTHEN THE FRONT SHAFT!
I have a 6L80 going in the Defender that I’m currently building. I just like the integration of the ACE kit with the traction system still working along with all the gauges and accessories.
@@tonya9955 I agree, it’s unfortunate that it seems to have gone that way with them. I wish I had the time to develop/produce a kit as I get a fair amount of emails since ACE went silent.

I opted out of paying the premium for someone to do the work for me, but it’s a daunting task for a TH-cam mechanic such as myself. I was hoping to maybe get in contact with you somehow and be able to get some help and or personal advice as I embark on the 5.3 swap journey. Thank you and I look forward to watching more of your vids!
I’m curious how it will be too. I’ve always felt the 4.0 and 4.6 were under powered for the Discovery. This should help tremendously along with no concerns of sleeve sliding in the late 4.6s.
@@LostCauseRanch I’m just curious if the diffs will tolerate the power because I’ve seen them shattered in to pieces on a manual Disco1 and defenders that’s why I don’t recommend the swap unless it’s done in a professional way … Im not concerned about the transfer box though
@@hughsmitham722 I’m not 100% up on the CARB laws, but I know there is ability to swap engines as long as you retain all the emissions equipment and the engine being swapped in is same year or newer.
@@LostCauseRanch I either read or heard you say the emissions equipment on a D2 can be kept intact with a LM4 swap? If that's the case there might be hope for such a project here.
Removing the problematic and unreliable factory engine and replacing it with a modern Chevrolet engine. Simple, reliable and supported well by factory and aftermarket parts.

Hey Ryan I am saving currently for this kit. I've seen a few comments regarding the oil pan and needing to cut the windage tray, can you confirm?
@@harroldsmith3235 no cutting required, will need to buy a shallower oil pan though... It's all in the instructions 👌

We got the Disco with the lift kit on it already. But it appears to be a Brit part/super gaz setup.

Might in the future. But right now with the new shop being built it kind of put a damper on getting much done the last part of the year.
This is the first time I’ve heard this sleeve slip sound. Every other sleeve slip video i hear sounds like valve train to me.
What do you think of an LS 3 swap with a mew transmission.
Would be a potent setup. Would have to address the axles as well with the additional power. We are doing an LS3/6l80e setup in a Defender now too.

Yes it will, same kit for all of the discovery 2s.

Everything the same for a D1?
ACE also has a kit for D1s, I think it is similar but it is different. I think the D1 is simpler on the integration side.

They do not. Just Discovery 1 and 2. So up to 04 in the US.
My 2017 is a diesel. I love the TD6. My FJ40 is getting an L96.

What is a LS swap?
It is the modern Chevy small block engine used from 97 on. Simple but good engine.

Yes it should. The only limiting factor is going to be the torque capacity of the factory Rover transmission.
