Appreciate you watching! We’ll keep it rolling along, I’m excited to see how it is when it’s all done as well. We have a few extra Discos laying around for more.
Have a 2004 as well will be doing this soon great video! Thanks for taking time and sharing your knowledge very much appreciated. Good job, Orange County, CA.
This is a great video! I bought my kit about 4 years ago. The instructions weren't the greatest, contacted them and was able to help out with clarification. But I screwed up with not labeling anything on the rover side for wiring 😂. If you could help me out with a few things I'd appreciate it. My Rover has been sitting since I set the motor in 4 years ago....
I wish I could give this video more thumbs up! I think I'll just have to buy a shirt as a "thank you." Seeing the swap has helped me out a ton. Thanks!
Happy to hear that. We wanted to put this out there to at least give people a better understanding of what it takes/what you would be getting into with the swap.
Super glad you're doing this video series... been following on the forum without much real success in watching/ seeing someone do the install and completing it- to judge if I can do one myself. So far- doesn't look like a problem so may be ordering the kit and sourcing a 5.3 very soon indeed. I'll let you all wrap up first though so I'm prepped for surprises! Thanks for doing it!
Thank you for showing these cars can have life again. Where can one find these conversion kits? As I understand it (total novice) the 5.3 LS engine swap is able to fit nicely w/conversion kit and maintaining functionality of many of the Rovers systems/console. Yes im totally ignorant...just have a dead Rover and not ready to give it to the junk yard...since seeing your video, and your videos are very helpful! Thank you.
awesome vid- have been tearing apart my disco since last july but not thru the winter in the hope of rebuilding the engine. some of my friends say, do an LS swap? and until i saw this vid I was hell naw! now gonna start saving the parts that are gonna be reused and put funds together. Thanks for the vid Imma keep watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would say it’s doable if you are capable of pulling and rebuilding the stock 4.0/4.6. I’m curious on what kind of difference it makes on the drive ability of it. I’ve always felt the Disco 1 and 2s are underwhelming in the power department. Sufficient but not great. Next video should be up Wednesday. Thanks!
I just realized this is recent content! Subscribed, I’m interest in getting an lr2 but I know the engine sucks, so this might be the route I go as well
What size drill bits did you use for the dip stick? I’ve been holding off on doing my lm4 and this is the first video I’ve actually seen someone drilling it out.
Hello my dear, I would like to ask you a question regarding which obd2 is the most appropriate to read and erase codes, something complete and not so expensive, for land rover discovery 2 v8 year 2000. thank you.
I heard your engine came drive by wire. What else did you need to do to change to drive by cable other than the throttle body? My engine for my swap came drive by wire and complete with Harness and PCM I even have the pedal. Did you do your own programming or have someone tune for you? If you did your own, what software setup did you use? Thank you
I believe they were 10x1.5mm if I remember correctly. I probably wasn’t super clear in the video, the holes are threaded just not used so they were gunked up. So just had to run it through to clean them.
Awesome Im in the process of purchasing an L33 but keep it low powered. From ACE their harness they offer will work with my engine? and How much would you charge for the exhaust system you built (plug and play)?
Hello again, finally almost done with my engine build. curious if you could send a pdf file of disco2 rewire harness. I am on the list at ACE. Just so I could get ahead a bit. Thanks
i’ve had three Land Rover discoveries and yes the motors suck but my DS 2001 was really a good vehicle I just sold it to a guy now I have a 2002SE and it sucks but I had a 2000 DS also it was OK I traded it for the DS 2001 but anyway yes again I would just like to know what the overall cost of all this is
Now a LC200 or lexus engine to LR4! I've seen a video where russians did it. Now that would be a conversion kit that would sell like hot cakes. All those TDV6 owners dreaming of their beloved car with a actually reliable engine. Well..at least I am..
@@LostCauseRanch Hah, there are still plenty of issues to deal with/love:) The engine is just too scary issue. But yeah, Discos have that something that makes you really like them.
Thanks for doing this series. I’m sure a lot of disco owners are watching this progress

@@LostCauseRanch if you plan on doing it, please document the tie in to the discovery ecu if you can keep the TC / abs etc.
I am, that's for sure, I've rebuilt my Disco II engine twice and it's still terrible. What a waste of 💰 over $6K 😤
@@LostCauseRanch
Did you fab those brackets?
@@louisziegler3690 Which brackets? For the accessories?
I'm on the waitlist for an A.C.E. kit, will be doing this on our 2001. Very informative.
Thanks. Hopefully it helps along the way.
Keeping tabs on this for a future project for our 2003 Disco!

Glad we can be of any help. It’s a nice option for the sleeve sliding 04s. Thanks for watching!

Glad to see a swap in this detail. Planning on this kit for my 04. Great job.
Thanks for the comment and kind words. Seems like a decent kit for a relatively small market. So far I’m pleased with it.

Nice videos, question any recommendations for swapping out a 2006 Land Rover LR3 from air suspensions to coils?. Thank you
Are you looking for stock height or a small lift?
@@LostCauseRanch a little higher then stock height. Just tired of the cost related to maintain the air suspension system.

Good interesting video.
Thanks as always!
What size bits did you use for the dipstick? I also have an LM4 that I need to do this to.
Can I replace the v8 engine with a td5 diesel engine on a v8 gearbox?
I imagine that would be possible. Not sure on the adapter needed for the transmission.
I would like to know what the overall cost is when it’s done
Great point and the million dollar question 👍
Another question what size tap did you use?
I believe they were 10x1.5mm if I remember correctly. I probably wasn’t super clear in the video, the holes are threaded just not used so they were gunked up. So just had to run it through to clean them.

Is the oil pan swap necessary?
I think depending on the amount of lift you have you can get away with different pans.

That Toyota reliable would be hard to beat. But no soul haha. What’s the fun in something that just works every time? Haha.
