Markus Nashorn the main reason more people were able to escape the higher floors of the south tower was because flight 175 hit the south tower at an angle, it hit with its wings at an extreme angle so it when it crashed it left only one stairway intact, every stairway and elevators in the north tower were completely destroyed so anyone above the impact zone was doomed in the north tower

No one really knew a passenger jet hit the tower and no one expected a second to hit the south. The south tower was considered safe at that point. I still probably would've trusted my gut and left anyways.
Exactly! Even if the south tower wasn't hit, the burnt plastic, smoke and radiation coming from the north tower would cause health problems for people working in the south tower. Shutting windows wouldn't solve the problem, beacuse the pollution could come through ventilation system. If it wasn't for the fact that most of those security guards, unfortunately, probably died, I think many families would sue them for stopping people from evacuating.
Hindsight is one hell of a thing. At 8 am on the 11th of September 2001 no one could have contemplated a coordinated hijacking with two planes bringing down the WDC... at 11 am the now broken world was attempting to contemplate what more these guys were capable of.
I believe the thinking at the time was that they didn't want to overcrowd the escape routes for all the people in the other tower who were evacuating. You have to remember the security staff were managing an extremely large number of people between the two buildings, and they were not expecting the other tower to also get hit by a plane

Lukology At the time I think people thought the plane had accidently hit the North Tower. A US bomber had already hit the Empire State Building in 1945 on accident, so I think they thought it was the same situation. Unfortunately it wasn't the same situation at all. Who knew another hijacked plane would hit the South Tower?

When Hurricane Ivan hit, I was required to work that day. I had to drive 30 miles to get home in a hurricane. When Katrina hit, I was required to work part of that day. Again, had to drive home during the storm. After the storm, a tree had fallen on our building right where I worked. My life meant nothing to my employers. Only more $$$. I was threatened with termination if I didn't show up. So believe me -- I don't make my original comment lightly.

I'm not sure how old you are, but if you can imagine, most people didn't think it was terrorism. For about 15 minutes after the North towers struck, it was widely assumed to be a terrible accident.
You honestly can’t say what you would’ve done. From inside that tower that wasn’t struck, next door might as well of been 100 miles away. No one knows how bad it was from in there they just were going off what they were told.
If I were working in the south tower on 9/11 when the north tower got hit I would of taken an elevator to the lobby told the guards "screw you im outta here" and ran as far from the twin towers as possible
@@OurBob775 I've thought the same thing, but unless I were there it's hard to say what I would have done. I'm not even sure that most of the people even knew what really happened at first. "We" on the outside knew more about what was happening than those on the inside. All they knew was that there was an explosion in the other building and were told that their building was secure. And the only footage I've seen of the 1st plane hitting was in that documentary. So I guess unless you witness it with your own eyes that day, it was a pretty unbelieveable thought to imagine. At least it was until the other plane hit. Only then was it clear to all, what was going on. Hindsight is 20/20, unfortunately.
My best friend went to school near WTC and had to flee on a ferry to New Jersey where he stayed the night at a church. He would’ve never thought that his future father in law was up there in those towers. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Stanley and he is a one of the nicest person you’ll ever meet.
I've worked in customer service (phone carrier) for 8 years and over time, you can kind of tell a person's character just by the sound/tone of their voices over the phone. To me, Brian's voice and most especially the way he talks, just reminds me of that one genuinely nice customer who makes you feel better after a string of irate customers. I'm so glad they made it!

This is why you got to go with your feelings and don't worry about your job. If you feel like your life is in danger, then it's time to go. More people could have been saved, but people was told to get back to work. Sad day..
As Brian said in other talks, in all that context, many people made unfortunate decisions, not wrong ones. It's important to understand the meaning of this. No one knew what would happen next. Also imagine a scenario where there's no protocol or no one takes "reasponabilities" or has initiative. That can conclude in more chaos, it's a possibility. It's easy for us to say "sometimes you must follow your feelings over all" but in extreme situations or confusing scenarios it's not that easy. Also in situations like 9/11, if you (unluckily) are one of the protagonist, is harder going "your way", alone, instead of acting/thinking/sharing as a group, even small ones, like the one in here. For good or for bad. Like really, many factors come in play.
I was in a building during an earthquake and my instinct was to "get the hell out".. My co-worker was on the telephone and I grabbed her ( I looked up and saw the ceiling buckling ), and told her we need to get out. An assistant manager scolded us for "leaving an exit not assigned for staff members".. I looked at him and thought "What a bastard"...
I remember seeing a comment that had said that this one person's mom was in the second building. Once she saw the plane hit the first building she followed her gut and left the building. Thanks to her gut the person who wrote down that comment was able to be born and share their story.

I love these two men. The attacks on 9/11 are truly sad all those who lost their lives, but through tragedy also come beauty. Brian Clark saved Stanley's life, but in saving his life, Stanley also saved Brian's. A beautiful story and a beautiful friendship that came from the tragedy. I love how they both are humble and tell the story of their survival so beautifully. Would love to meet them.
I watched a video on the guy who saved him and his story, he would've actually gone up to the roof if he didn't hear the scream, because a women was saying that they couldn't go down, all of his colleagues went up to the roof and died, but he survived because he heard that scream, and because of it, somebody else survived

Nobody above the impact survived in the first tower, because the plane didn't tilt. The only reason 4 people survived above or at the impact was because the plane tilted

When the Sewol ferry sank in Korea in 2014, the crew also announced: "Stay in your cabins! Don't leave the ship!" - Many ppl obeyed & drowned. The survivors didn't obey the announcements, but followed their instincts. Tragic.

I get so emotional every time I think of that day. I took my twins to day care and was getting dressed for work when the first plane hit. After the second plane hit I picked up my kids ( they were 6 months old) and stayed glued to the TV all day and went back and forth between anger, tears, and relief when someone was found. I will never forget any of that day. God Bless all that lost their lives that day and as an ongoing result of that day.
What amazes me the most is the fact that Brian chose the right stairway to descend. I can’t imagine being in his shoes and debating which stairway to choose from knowing that my life will depend on that decision
I have heard their story many times and it never gets old. It's a miracle they survived with such odds against them. Brian is a great man to want to help Stanley, and they are two brave souls!

After hearing his story, every time I see videos of the south tower strike, I can’t help but think of this guy staring that plane down as it struck the building.
I worked for the Federal Government, the IRS. We would get bomb threats periodically, usually around April 15th. The bomb alarm would go off, and we would exit the building and were told to get as far from the building as possible, but remain in the secured parking lot. Most of the time it was a false alarm, but a couple of times a bomb did explode. Seriously. We were all stunned. Even after that, we were told to go back in to work. I was never comfortable with that.
Ive heard this story a couple times and each time I hear it i I will never get over how incredibly lucky these two were. This is what gives me hope in humanity.
I was there a month ago with my sister and had a feeling when I randomly came upon this, I recognized the background and realized (before seeing the 9/11 Tribute Center logo) that they were speaking about their amazing story on the anniversary of the '93 bombing. I'm so glad they remain such good friends!
Unfortunately that happened in seconds for many people really. Mind/brain is really slow (not prepared) processing something extremely extraordinary and dangerous for us because we don't expect on a normal basis situations that push us to the very limit (death in this case). We don't know what would be our reaction. Although I'm sure that on scenarios like this there's more people "mind blocked" because of the shock than people reactioning fast and taking actions. Experimenting that you have no control on a situation that can result in death or heavy injuries must be probably one of the worst feelings a human can have in this world. You must feel so alone in that moment. No one deserves it. Rest all the victims in peace.
Anybody who saw that plane coming toward them that day sadly perished. I don't belive this guy was there on/in the impact floor, in the building Close to those floors I can believe, other than that he would have been vaporised instantly.
It sad really. You only seem to see this kind of love and compassion for your fellow man in a time of such tragedy. People helping strangers. Realizing there is more to life than a job or money. It was/is stories like these that help me cope with all the evil that happened that day.

I could listen to these two men tell their story all day long. I'm glad they made it and are still here today (23 years later as of yesterday). I hope they stay with us a long, long time. May we never forget their stories and the stories of all the hero's and survivors.

Most of the stories you hear are about death and destruction, Rest In Peace to those brave victims. It’s a relief to a hear a story about 2 survivors who were able to make it out and form a life long friendship, who otherwise never would’ve known each other. Thank God for Brian by chance running into Stanley that day. Both brave and heroes in my eyes.
The crazy thing is when we smell smoke in school or there’s any fire we are told to go outside for fire drills. Why would people tell others in a place of business to go back? That makes no sense. Even if your building didn’t get hit yet, you still evacuate because fire spreads.

They didn’t want people to get in the way of emergency services 3. They were already evacuating from the North Tower and didn’t want things to get even more congested.

@@georgea.567 To correct/add on to that, 1. There were people jumping into the plaza, so even after the South Tower was hit, they couldn't let anyone out on to Liberty street. 2. The buildings were offset, so the chances of the fire spreading were very low. Even if the fire blew into the South tower, the steel frame would've prevented the building from catching. The reason the Twin Towers burned so well is because of the sheetrock walls within the steel frame. 3. The evacuation from 2 WTC would get in the way of the 1 WTC evacuation, so the person that authorized the PA announcement probably decided it would be safer to keep all of the South Tower workers out of the plaza. Nobody expected what happened next.
I love these two men. Even if I'm not a firm believer I'm thankful that these guys had a guided hand and got out of there. Bless their personality & character, the positivity they carry! Hope they live long & healthy, I'm not worried about the happiness part since both of them smile bright!

I have a family member who worked on the 70th floor in one of the towers and he had taken that week off for vacation. I can’t imagine what would’ve happened to him if he had gone to work that day. Also can’t imagine hearing what happened to your friends and co workers while you were out of the office :(

Actually, Brian Clark has never had a nightmare. He talked about it in another interview. He is a man of faith and had a vision where he saw his deceased friends in a better place. He has found solace in God. May God bless that man. He is a really good person.
Maybe we say that because we know that a second plane is going to hit that building, and in reality, they didn't... Don't forget that these buildings were World Trade Centers, full of business activity where people can't just simply leave their desks and get out... The normal survival instinct would be to do so though... But as I told you, they thought it all ended on the first hit.. the orders to stay resemble the ones happened on the TITANIC: "this ship will not sink"...

They were under the impression that it was an accident. Why would a 2nd plane be coming if it was an accident? They just didn't know and quite frankly, I don't blame them.
People also forget what pre 9-11 America was like. There was this sense that terrorists attacks didn’t happen here. You combine that with the “must carry on and be stoic” mentality of many people and I can see how I would have followed the advice to go back to my office. However if people in the South tower were aware of people jumping and especially if they saw people jumping I’m not sure how they could have willingly returned to their office. It’s hard to say what you would do in such a situation.
Because he wasn't where he's claiming he was. He was likely on a floor close to the impact floor, but he wasn't hiding under a desk as plane crashed in above his head and exploded. Come on.....

Brian Clark spoke at my elementary school, don't remember what year, but 10th anniversary seems a safe guess. I could never remember his name, but I did remember that he rescued someone stuck behind a wall. Fast forward to last year on 9/11 I was cleaning out my car and listening to 9/11 stories. I scrolled through the videos, and I found a few videos of Brian Clark from 2011. He looked about the right age that I remembered the school speaker being, and my gut was telling me that this was likely the same guy. So as he's recounting that day, every detail lined up perfectly with what I remembered. So that's how I found the guy that spoke at my school almost a decade earlier! I tried to find his contact info to say thank you, but I couldn't. I hope I can thank him someday.

I wasn't in New York on September 11th, but I saw the second plane strike on television. I saw it at the exact time I turned on the TV. I was praying before I turned on the TV.
Aw bless them both. So glad they survived they will forever have an incredible bonded connection because of those awful events of 9/11 upon which they have developed a beautiful life long friendship. May god be with these two wonderful people and they're families always.
the most amazing survival of this event was his in my opinion. He was literally right in the path of that plane and not just survived that, but survived getting out of that building before it came down. He was meant to live, I really believe that.
That must've been some shit, seeing a commercial jet fly towards you and then crash into the place you are in. I can't imagine what it must've been like being on those floors, with people jumping or falling out because they can't escape, and the building being reduced to an inferno. This is when you re-evaluate your priorities. I think how many people stuck above the strikes had the thought in their mind "if I had only followed my own passion". How even more tragic it would be for them to perish knowing they had lived a life or followed someone else's wishes. Both are spending the rest of their days doing what really matters. "Spending time with family" and giving inspirational talks to others.
I can never hear this story enough. In one video, by the way, they actually show (through movie magic) the plane approaching and hitting. Fascinating how immensely huge it gets as it nears. Anyway, my hats off to these two amazing and G-dly men.

When Hurricane Ivan hit, I was required to work that day. I had to drive 30 miles to get home in a hurricane. When Katrina hit, I was required to work part of that day. Again, had to drive home during the storm. After the storm, a tree had fallen on our building right where I worked. My life meant nothing to my employers. Only more $$$. I was threatened with termination if I didn't show up.

@@RS54321 Very much was R S. The left wing of the plane closest to the fuselage cut through his office diagonally just metres away. If the plane hit smack-on he would have been killed as the nose hit 81. Stanley's floor; not to mention the heat and fire from proximity to the atomised fuel.

@@coyotelong4349 Yes it's terrible. Imagine people in the first tower who saw the plane coming from a distance and only realized too late, that is was headed straight for them. I'm sure some actually experienced that. Sitting at their desk, gazing out in the clear morning, seeing the plane far away. Wondering what's it doing there. Then closer, getting nervous and then in the end so close they understand what is about to happen.

I'm not sure how old you are, but if you can imagine, most people didn't think it was terrorism. For about 15 minutes after the North towers struck, it was widely assumed to be a terrible accident.
It's easy to say what you would've done. But in a moment like that, panic controls your thoughts.

@@OurBob775 I've thought the same thing, but unless I were there it's hard to say what I would have done. I'm not even sure that most of the people even knew what really happened at first. "We" on the outside knew more about what was happening than those on the inside. All they knew was that there was an explosion in the other building and were told that their building was secure. And the only footage I've seen of the 1st plane hitting was in that documentary. So I guess unless you witness it with your own eyes that day, it was a pretty unbelieveable thought to imagine. At least it was until the other plane hit. Only then was it clear to all, what was going on. Hindsight is 20/20, unfortunately.

My best friend went to school near WTC and had to flee on a ferry to New Jersey where he stayed the night at a church. He would’ve never thought that his future father in law was up there in those towers. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Stanley and he is a one of the nicest person you’ll ever meet.

I've worked in customer service (phone carrier) for 8 years and over time, you can kind of tell a person's character just by the sound/tone of their voices over the phone. To me, Brian's voice and most especially the way he talks, just reminds me of that one genuinely nice customer who makes you feel better after a string of irate customers. I'm so glad they made it!

This is why you got to go with your feelings and don't worry about your job. If you feel like your life is in danger, then it's time to go. More people could have been saved, but people was told to get back to work. Sad day..
As Brian said in other talks, in all that context, many people made unfortunate decisions, not wrong ones. It's important to understand the meaning of this.
No one knew what would happen next. Also imagine a scenario where there's no protocol or no one takes "reasponabilities" or has initiative. That can conclude in more chaos, it's a possibility. It's easy for us to say "sometimes you must follow your feelings over all" but in extreme situations or confusing scenarios it's not that easy. Also in situations like 9/11, if you (unluckily) are one of the protagonist, is harder going "your way", alone, instead of acting/thinking/sharing as a group, even small ones, like the one in here. For good or for bad. Like really, many factors come in play.
I was in a building during an earthquake and my instinct was to "get the hell out".. My co-worker was on the telephone and I grabbed her ( I looked up and saw the ceiling buckling ), and told her we need to get out. An assistant manager scolded us for "leaving an exit not assigned for staff members".. I looked at him and thought "What a bastard"...

I remember seeing a comment that had said that this one person's mom was in the second building. Once she saw the plane hit the first building she followed her gut and left the building. Thanks to her gut the person who wrote down that comment was able to be born and share their story.

I love these two men. The attacks on 9/11 are truly sad all those who lost their lives, but through tragedy also come beauty. Brian Clark saved Stanley's life, but in saving his life, Stanley also saved Brian's. A beautiful story and a beautiful friendship that came from the tragedy. I love how they both are humble and tell the story of their survival so beautifully. Would love to meet them.

I watched a video on the guy who saved him and his story, he would've actually gone up to the roof if he didn't hear the scream, because a women was saying that they couldn't go down, all of his colleagues went up to the roof and died, but he survived because he heard that scream, and because of it, somebody else survived

When the Sewol ferry sank in Korea in 2014, the crew also announced: "Stay in your cabins! Don't leave the ship!" - Many ppl obeyed & drowned. The survivors didn't obey the announcements, but followed their instincts. Tragic.

I just don’t have the mindset to imagine being in one of the tallest buildings and seeing a plane coming towards me
I get so emotional every time I think of that day. I took my twins to day care and was getting dressed for work when the first plane hit. After the second plane hit I picked up my kids ( they were 6 months old) and stayed glued to the TV all day and went back and forth between anger, tears, and relief when someone was found. I will never forget any of that day. God Bless all that lost their lives that day and as an ongoing result of that day.
What amazes me the most is the fact that Brian chose the right stairway to descend. I can’t imagine being in his shoes and debating which stairway to choose from knowing that my life will depend on that decision

After hearing his story, every time I see videos of the south tower strike, I can’t help but think of this guy staring that plane down as it struck the building.
I worked for the Federal Government, the IRS. We would get bomb threats periodically, usually around April 15th. The bomb alarm would go off, and we would exit the building and were told to get as far from the building as possible, but remain in the secured parking lot. Most of the time it was a false alarm, but a couple of times a bomb did explode. Seriously. We were all stunned. Even after that, we were told to go back in to work. I was never comfortable with that.
These men will be brothers for life. The bond created by tragedy and survival is among the strongest known to man.

I was there a month ago with my sister and had a feeling when I randomly came upon this, I recognized the background and realized (before seeing the 9/11 Tribute Center logo) that they were speaking about their amazing story on the anniversary of the '93 bombing. Anybody else seeing a plane coming at them would have started running. That he DIDN'T run & hauled ass under his desk saved his life.
Unfortunately that happened in seconds for many people really. Mind/brain is really slow (not prepared) processing something extremely extraordinary and dangerous for us because we don't expect on a normal basis situations that push us to the very limit (death in this case). We don't know what would be our reaction. Although I'm sure that on scenarios like this there's more people "mind blocked" because of the shock than people reactioning fast and taking actions.
Experimenting that you have no control on a situation that can result in death or heavy injuries must be probably one of the worst feelings a human can have in this world. You must feel so alone in that moment. No one deserves it.

I live 3 min from an airport and hearing those commercial airliners come in everyday is both incredible and terrifying bc it shakes the entire house. I couldn't image hearing one approach 1000ft off the ground. They are absolutely massive

Most of the stories you hear are about death and destruction, Rest In Peace to those brave victims. It’s a relief to a hear a story about 2 survivors who were able to make it out and form a life long friendship, who otherwise never would’ve known each other. Thank God for Brian by chance running into Stanley that day. Both brave and heroes in my eyes.
The crazy thing is when we smell smoke in school or there’s any fire we are told to go outside for fire drills. Why would people tell others in a place of business to go back? That makes no sense. Even if your building didn’t get hit yet, you still evacuate because fire spreads.

1. There was debris and people falling from the south tower
2. They didn’t want people to get in the way of emergency services
3. They were already evacuating from the North Tower and didn’t want things to get even more congested.

1. There were people jumping into the plaza, so even after the South Tower was hit, they couldn't let anyone out on to Liberty street.
2. The buildings were offset, so the chances of the fire spreading were very low. Even if the fire blew into the South tower, the steel frame would've prevented the building from catching. The reason the Twin Towers burned so well is because of the sheetrock walls within the steel frame.
3. The evacuation from 2 WTC would get in the way of the 1 WTC evacuation, so the person that authorized the PA announcement probably decided it would be safer to keep all of the South Tower workers out of the plaza. Nobody expected what happened next.

I have a family member who worked on the 70th floor in one of the towers and he had taken that week off for vacation. I can’t imagine what would’ve happened to him if he had gone to work that day. Also can’t imagine hearing what happened to your friends and co workers while you were out of the office :(

Actually, Brian Clark has never had a nightmare. He talked about it in another interview. He is a man of faith and had a vision where he saw his deceased friends in a better place. He has found solace in God. May God bless that man. He is a really good person.

Maybe we say that because we know that a second plane is going to hit that building, and in reality, they didn't... Don't forget that these buildings were World Trade Centers, full of business activity where people can't just simply leave their desks and get out... The normal survival instinct would be to do so though... But as I told you, they thought it all ended on the first hit.. the orders to stay resemble the ones happened on the TITANIC: "this ship will not sink"...

They were under the impression that it was an accident. Why would a 2nd plane be coming if it was an accident? They just didn't know and quite frankly, I don't blame them.
People also forget what pre 9-11 America was like. There was this sense that terrorists attacks didn’t happen here. You combine that with the “must carry on and be stoic” mentality of many people and I can see how I would have followed the advice to go back to my office. However if people in the South tower were aware of people jumping and especially if they saw people jumping I’m not sure how they could have willingly returned to their office. It’s hard to say what you would do in such a situation.

Because he wasn't where he's claiming he was. He was likely on a floor close to the impact floor, but he wasn't hiding under a desk as plane crashed in above his head and exploded. Come on.....

Brian Clark spoke at my elementary school, don't remember what year, but 10th anniversary seems a safe guess. I could never remember his name, but I did remember that he rescued someone stuck behind a wall. Fast forward to last year on 9/11 I was cleaning out my car and listening to 9/11 stories. I scrolled through the videos, and I found a few videos of Brian Clark from 2011. He looked about the right age that I remembered the school speaker being, and my gut was telling me that this was likely the same guy. So as he's recounting that day, every detail lined up perfectly with what I remembered. So that's how I found the guy that spoke at my school almost a decade earlier! I tried to find his contact info to say thank you, but I couldn't. I hope I can thank him someday.

I wasn't in New York on September 11th, but I saw the second plane strike on television. I saw it at the exact time I turned on the TV. I was praying before I turned on the TV.
Aw bless them both. So glad they survived they will forever have an incredible bonded connection because of those awful events of 9/11 upon which they have developed a beautiful life long friendship.
May god be with these two wonderful people and they're families always.
How many others survived the initial impact but didn’t make it out. I bet there’s a lot of heroic stories that we will never get to hear.
the most amazing survival of this event was his in my opinion. He was literally right in the path of that plane and not just survived that, but survived getting out of that building before it came down. He was meant to live, I really believe that.
Interesting to hear that with his engineering degree his first thoughts were "That's a steel structure - there's no way that's coming down.."

That must've been some shit, seeing a commercial jet fly towards you and then crash into the place you are in. I can't imagine what it must've been like being on those floors, with people jumping or falling out because they can't escape, and the building being reduced to an inferno. I wonder what was going through those people's minds as they were stuck in an area where a plane crashed and exploded, leaving gaping holes in the wall, things burning, and everything destroyed. You ever wonder what you would do in that situation?
Hopefully, none of us will ever have too, but I think we all wonder......

Why not be an equestrian thankfully the impact was so fast the passengers were killed instantly rather than suffering. And they wouldn’t have seen the building coming from the side windows
LMD Productions They would've known something was wrong as the terrorists took over the plane, it made a turn at the same time the plane was going down. I'm sure the people on the opposite side of the asile saw what was going on and were probably screaming and crying. 😢😢😢😢😢😢

This is when you re-evaluate your priorities. I think how many people stuck above the strikes had the thought in their mind "if I had only followed my own passion". How even more tragic it would be for them to perish knowing they had lived a life or followed someone else's wishes. Both are spending the rest of their days doing what really matters. "Spending time with family" and giving inspirational talks to others.

I can never hear this story enough. In one video, by the way, they actually show (through movie magic) the plane approaching and hitting. Fascinating how immensely huge it gets as it nears. Anyway, my hats off to these two amazing and G-dly men.
