The Downfall Of José Mourinho

  • Jose Mourinho's rise to the pinnacle of European football was spectacular, but the last few years have seen his stock fall - to a level, that once upon a time, would seem impossible.
    Let me explain how and why footballs greatest character, and arguably greatest manager, has been unfairly labelled the finished one, but also how his best chapter could be yet to come.

      true take:
      Mounrinho is the most overrated football manager in history.
      prove me wrong.

    Rarely an Englishman praising him nowadays

      His stints at United and Spurs definitely changed the public perception of him, but I do think people have a soft spot for him in the UK.

    Fantastic retrospective. Mourinho changed English football. When he arrived, all trophies went to either Arsenal or United. Yes, ppl spoke about the rivalry between Ferguson & Wenger, but neither were larger than life personalities - neither was handsome. Every young coach tries to mimic Mourinho, both in aura & dress code - even Pep!

    • @dylanparker130
      @dylanparker130 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mourinho single-handedly shifted the focus from teams & players to coaches. If a team loses, it's the manager who trends on Twitter, not the team. To the point that there's no space in the conversation for any player other than Ronaldo & Messi - they're the only 2 who have not been subsumed by the Mourinho culture.

      Pep has absolutely spanked Jose in Spain and England and changed football far more. They’re not even close.

    • @dylanparker130
      @dylanparker130 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tomben6180Not really the point I was making but, for what it's worth, Mourinho beat Pep's Barcelona team to both the Spanish Cup & Spanish League title.
      And if City are ever found guilty of financially cheating, Pep's legacy might alter quite dramatically.

    • @tomben6180
      @tomben6180 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dylanparker130 Jose did that on one occasion each, out of four… yes 4… seasons.
      In that time Pep beat Jose 3x to the league, won the Treble, 3 Spanish Cups, the CL twice… he absolutely annihilated him.
      And on City… well it’s a huge if and all the noise coming out recently is City are expected to be cleared. Etihad, the biggest sponsor under investigation (there’s only two), is going IPO, which means every single transaction they’ve made needs to be investigated and made public, why would they do that if they were illegally paying City?
      And back to Pep, it’s a bullshit point considering the charges relate to sponsorship money coming in before Pep was manager. A) how would that be his fault? B) it didn’t even give him an advantage as other clubs have spent more than City since his time there C) if he went to Utd or Chelsea he’d have an even bigger budget D) Jose spent the same as Pep when they were both at Utd and City, retrospectively, Pep has won everything and broken every record in England, won two different Trebles, 100 points, 3x leagues in a row, most wins in a season, most goals in a season etc. Jose was sacked for being mid table.
      What Pep has achieved at City, is miles ahead of anything Jose has done.

    • @dylanparker130
      @dylanparker130 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tomben6180I prefer not to speak!
      I would never undersell Pep's achievements, but he inherited a European Champion at both Barca & Bayern.
      And, say it quietly, he was run out of town in Munich.
      Here's the biggest elephant in the room: a lot of City fans don't enjoy `Pep ball'. In fact, a lot of them actively dislike it.
      & you can tell Pep despises them for that - it's why he regularly complains at the lack of atmosphere.
