Thank You. Other channels suggest removing the blossom end, it removes some enzymes that excels the loss of crispness. Some suggest removing both ends.
I would definitely get a funnel to use to save all that mess. Also, I would be sure to wash those lids before using, if you didn't. Thank you for sharing. I have been making bread and butter pickles for years, but I have never put cloves in there. (I put them in my pickled beets.) I will try that now. Thanks!!
Nice :) Ask your wife if she has a recipe for old fashioned salt pickles. My momma used to make them and I have been craving one for last couple years.... She passed over to the other side about 35 years ago. thanks always enjoy your videos brother you are raising your family right :)
@@MaynardFamilyHomestead Found it one of my sisters had it from one of my aunts :) Really simple Granny's Salt Pickles - 1/2 gallon cucumbers, quartered lengthwise, 4 Tbsp canning salt, 2 Tbsp vinegar. Cut and clean cucumbers; place in a 1/2 gallon glass jar; add salt, vinegar, and enough water to cover the cucumbers. Put lid on and let sit for 3 days. Once the cucumber rind turns yellow, they are ready.
Thanks for sharing.. question the residual salt there at the end that was added to the brine, will it alter the flavor any. In other words, there’s no need to rinse them after.?
I would not leave that salt, I've never heard of leaving the salt used to soak the cucumbers, this will not only add a high amount of sodium but it will cause the liquid to be murky. The purpose of the salt is to extract the moisture from the cucumber slices so you will have crunchy pickles, but they should absolutely be rinsed prior to putting into the pot and it takes a good amount of rinsing to get rid of the salt. Further, the type of salt used is important too, you should use a salt without any anti-caking agents. Some people use pickling salt but I use Redmond salt, regular table salt is not appropriate. @angelatapia3813
Question. I know you added salt initially when soaking cucumbers in water & ice, you then drained or rinsed cucumbers & drained? Also in your brine did you add salt and forgot to mention? Thanks for sharing
I did forget to mention the salt. We add 1/2 cup salt in the soaking cucumbers and we don’t rinse them, just drain. No other salt is needed for this style pickle. There’s a full list of ingredients used in the description in case you need it.

Great question, it doesn’t alter the taste at all.

Do not tighten the rings after removing the jars from the water bath. You can potentially break the seal
Make sure to rinse really good after soaking in salt water !
How much of a boil should there be before I start the timer?
Can pickles be made without vinegar?.
I’m not sure, pickling by definition usually includes vinegar.
How long do you wait before serving these pickles?
As soon as they cool!
Dont use just any old salt should be canning salt or kosher salt
There was a lot of salt left on the pickles, was that on purpose? Won’t get too salty?
How long should we water bath can?
15 minutes from when it starts boiling.
You should add ice to your recipe of things needed so it can be screenshot and not forgotten 😊
Done!😃
Thanks for sharing! 👍
Thanks for being a faithful viewer!
I had cukes salted in refrigerator overnight..is it too long to now pickle them?
No they will be fine

@@MaynardFamilyHomestead thank you so much
I can’t believe you didn’t rinse pickles from the salt/ice water bath😮😮. Every bread and butter recipe I have seen has a rinse step.
Not true.
@@justinthefarm really?? How can you say not true?? How do you know what recipes I have seen and what they contain??
I’ve seen recipes both ways! It obviously works😉
I see that you did not rinse the pickles and onions. Is that correct?
Can you save the leftover brine to use the next day?
Yep I would probably put it in the fridge though.
How long can the sealed jar of pickles last?
years
2 years ? 20 years?
I’ve clever seen home canned food go bad. I’m sure it will some day, but each jar could be different.
16 cups? of sliced cukes?
Yes That's what it says in the recipe.
Thanks for sharing 😅😅
Thanks for watching!
