I'm 76 years old and never learned how to do any canning. Now, that our world is going down hill , Im trying to learn to do a lot. I want to thank you so much for showing how to do this.
Dear “Suttons Daze”, you are fabulous and your channel is wonderful! Thank you very much for sharing your awesome recipes and tips & tricks for success canning! God’s Blessings to you and your family! Regards, Russell 🙏✝️❤️
I made these last summer for my mother and she managed to get through most of the batch. It sure made the kitchen smell good. I bet Phil can't wait till they are ready to eat.
My all time favorite pickles. Something that makes them extra pretty in the jar is to add in some chopped sweet red bell pepper. Not much...maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a pepper to each 7 jar batch.
These are my favorite !! My Mother made these when I was a kid (50 + yrs ago), but she always peeled the cucumbers, I don't know why. But my favorite part was the onions........... Thank you for this video-it really took me back !!
YUM! B & B's are my favorite pickles. I made the ones out of the Ball book this winter. I had a TON of stuff from veggie trays leftover and all I could think of to do with the cukes was to make pickles... so, made these and added some of the cauliflower and bell pepper strips ( red, orange, yellow). Opened this summer and AMAZING. The cauliflower came out sooo good I regret not putting more of it in each jar. I had kept most of the cauliflower back to have with dinners, but it makes an amazing B & B pickle and looked so nice in the jar with the cuke slices and pepper strips. you may want to give it a try next batch - if you like cauliflower! I was also lucky that the English cucumbers worked well for pickles chips.
Love Pickles, got a bushel of radish's - just when I though I could not pickle anything else, I am pickling radish and watermelon rind ( not together ). Love your recipe's ❤️
My Mom made B&B pickles same basic recipe except the pickles and onions were thinly sliced on a mandolin. We used to pile them on burgers and sandwiches. So good.😁
I was looking for a video to show me how to do this without making such a mess, but glad to see it's not just me lol. Oh and by the way, I have eaten my b&b pickles the next day if I'm totally out of pickles, they are just fine! I definitely do not wait weeks unless I have a stockpile (happens sometimes). Thanks for the video!
big projects like pickles or other harvest jobs always need big bowls and containers: don't forget your food safe buckets and those dollar store dishpans, they are easy to wash and you can get a lot of them for the cost of one big stainless steel bowl
I use my Tupperware cake cover as an additional bowl. Then I wash it well to make sure I don’t smell onion and garlic on it. I put garlic in my bread and butter pickles also, because my husband loves it
I made a batch today. OMG they taste amazing. I don't know if I can wait 4-5 weeks! I was afraid of trying some of the recipes I have seen recently, but I have been watching you for the last couple of years and I knew your recipe would be good.
Love your recipe. I've been canning dill pickles for over 20 years but haven't done much bread & butters, so though I would give your recipe a try. In re-watching your video, you referred to "turning the ends into bacon" I said to myself, "Huh"? :)
I do not eat any pickles, but missed you so much that I am enjoying this video. :-) So good to see you back. Good I am watching - have to catch the dog using the ice maker and make a video. Mine is a yellow squash dog - worried that she might figure out how to eat it off the bush in the garden.
Hi! I love watching you. Are you able to leave a link to where you purchased your bowl with the lid? I love it. Also, do I need a pressure cooker to do canning? I’ve never canned anything before.
For some reason I had not bought bread and butter pickles. I made some YEARS AGO. Bought a jar on sell Kroger brand and been addicted to them, eat with everything. bought two jars last week at Walmart .lol may have to make some
Thanks so much for this recipe, those pickles look beautiful! I am new to canning and have never done any pickles so this is definitely on my list. I do have one question, how long do they last on the shelf? Thanks again I love to watch all of your videos💙
These are in the water bath processing now. I tasted one that wouldn't fit in the jar, and so far.... OMG YUM! only thing, I hope i didn't mess something up because I only used 1/4 cup salt and your recipe per the website has this listed twice. Maybe one was for the brine soak?
Some day when you are feeling creative, make us a video, all your out of the canner jars lined up in formation on the towel. Camera angle so we can see the bubbling product as well as the lids. We can drool and listen to the snapping lids.
Quick question....because of this onion recall of ALL onions and the recommendation that we get rid of foods prepared with any onions purchased between May and now..do we have to get rid of our canned pickles made last month??? I hope not...but deferring to your expertise. Thanks!!
Got three pounds after a few days of them starting to put out(Boston and National pickling cucumbers). Started the recipe. They are soaking in water and ice as we speak.
Hi..video has adding salt to cucumbers then adding water and ice. Then to,drain and rinse before going into brine. Recipe doesn't mention doing it that way. Pls...which is correct? Newbie here so want to get it right. Thanks so much! As always enjoy y our videos and am learning so much!!
Hi ...well I pressure canned my first bunch of carrots! So happy...I have a question...is it okay if the liquid level inside jars went down below the carrots just a bit?
I'm trying to figure out if spices can be added to then a basic brine poured over the cukes to make multiple kinds of pickles with one brine mixture. Is this something you have any info on? Can it even be done?
Do u have a full pickle recipe for dill pickles????? Every one I have tried have WAY TO MUCH SALT FOR MY FAMILY. Yet we love dill pickles from the store, any brand. Please please help.
I jump every time they pop ! They definitely don't ping like Ball lids. 😂 good to know about the over tightening though. I'll watch for that. Thanks Leisa
In the blog post for the recipe the salt is listed twice. 1 time as canning and pickling salt and the 2nd time its reversed. Both times the same amount 😂😂
I love your videos, but the website, not so much. The light colored text/font used against the light background makes it very difficult on some seniors’ eyesight. I prefer black fonts, but a very dark gray or blue would work, too. I’m collecting recipes that mirror my own (to copy and paste) from my favorite TH-cam channels for my granddaughter because my eyes are getting worse as time goes on. The lighter fonts look nice, and I suppose they’re supposed to be easier on the eyes, but when it causes eye strain, I have to move on.

Your dog knows how to use the ice machine!?! Awesome! The pickles look delicious. tfs
Thanks for teaching this Granny how to make these. Hubby and I both love them. I'm sure they will taste better than store bought. Blessings 😊
I made these last summer for my mother and she managed to get through most of the batch. It sure made the kitchen smell good. I bet Phil can't wait till they are ready to eat.
a cooler works fantastic to hold pickles while icing and/or soaking [or turkey brining]
So glad your back! So sorry for your loss
My all time favorite pickles. Something that makes them extra pretty in the jar is to add in some chopped sweet red bell pepper. Not much...maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a pepper to each 7 jar batch.
Your Bread and Butter Pickles look so good. Thanks for sharing them with us. God Bless Y'all.
I LOVE bread & butter pickles!!!! I remember my mom making these as a child. Oh so good.
My children love bread and butter pickles. I’m going to give this recipe a try. Thanks for sharing. God bless y’all.
Making Bread and Butter pickles is like making your own vanilla - You never want to run out. :-)
These are my favorite !! My Mother made these when I was a kid (50 + yrs ago), but she always peeled the cucumbers, I don't know why. But my favorite part was the onions...........

You can make pickled onions using different onion types.
@@elizabethcope1502 You mean using this recipe ?

I was drooling! Can't wait to make some. My cucumbers are just coming in.

I love that one of the dogs knows how to use the ice maker.
Love bread and butter pickles. Have a similar recipe. I chop them up and add to my potato salad.
I still soak my lids too.
Wow looks fabulous a true winner 🏆 thanks for sharing 👍😎
Wonderful recipe. I just did a half bushel of these tasty pickles 2 weeks ago and can't wait until they are ready to open. Thanks for sharing

Ok. I admit, I had to go back and read transcript….I swore I heard you say, “we turn the ends into bacon”🤣🤣. Great video! Thank you!!
My favorite pickle because they're not too sweet and not dill either. Just perfect. Thank you for another great canning recipe.
I have been canning bread and butter pickles from the garden.Ive canned 14 quarts.

Thrift stores😍. Got huge stainless steel bowl for $2.00/ got 5 more sizes for $5 @ different store.
Outstanding, Hi Phil & Leisa Sutton, So good! This is Mark from Pentwater STPTrader

I'm a dill pickle person myself, but they certainly look yummy!
Never my favorite pickle, but these sound much better than what I grew up on.
The Rara knife sharpener is the best. I gave it one year to the guys in the family
I love them and wow those were gorgeous cucumbers!
That's how I make mine, we love love love them !
Your pickles look so delicious! My favorite pickle.
1st time making these…OMG🎉🎉🎉

Thanks Leisa! I made 11 half pints of zucchini relish today. It's that time of year I guess!!
I love zucchini relish.... yum 😋
How many jars does this recipe make?
Can you use sugar substitute?? Thanks 🌷
I didn’t c the measurements for all the spices. Did I just miss it? I can’t wait to make them.

🤤 looks incredible!!!!!
Going to Farmers Market to find cucumbers what should I look for? Any special type?
I could be happy with pickled onions!
Do you add anything to keep them crisp? These look beautiful and I'm making them. Blessing
Not at all
Looks delicious.
What variety of cuke did you grow or buy?
You're such an inspiration. Thanks
She really is !
How much peppercorn do I put in the brine! Thank you ! ❤️
Thank you.
I have one of those wavey knifes, it makes them, look prettier

Hope you enjoy. Typically good for a year on the shelf :-)
where do I go to get your recipe for these pickles?
These look so yummy ! How many jars does the single recipe make, please ?
I just made these recently and I came back for the recipe to do it again. It made 6 pint jars.
@@minivandreamin1789 ~ Perfect ! Thank you.
Can you use regular cucumbers? I can’t find pickling cucumbers.
Did you leave the lid on while processing?

What is the orange (our red) item you are using to get the air out of the bottles? Where did you purchase it at?
Did you add the 1/4 cup of salt in the brine?
New subber, what kind of pan did you cook the end product in?
Was that a canner? ( Pressure canner?

I ‘m patiently waiting for my pickling cucumbers and hoping to get enough to make at least one batch. How many did you get out of a triple batch?
About half a bushel

Hi, I am diabetic. Can I use a sugar substitute in place of the sugar? Thanks so much.
No safe method for shelf stable.
Looking through the comments for the type of cucumber used? Does it matter much?
Pickling cucumbers

Great video..thx
This recipe is for 6 pints?
Question if I made too much and ran out of room in my canner could this cool and then be warmed again
Yes, just run a second batch asap

Yes they are good if the jars sesled
@@SuttonsDaze , thank you so much...I live in Ovid Michigan just East of Saint Johns... are you very far from me?
You brought the liquid up to a boil and put in the cukes and oinions in but did u bring them back up to a boil before jarring them?
Nope
Those look great!
Can I use this recipe with zucchini instead of cucumbers?
Yes
I'm trying to figure out if spices can be added to then a basic brine poured over the cukes to make multiple kinds of pickles with one brine mixture. Is this something you have any info on? Can it even be done?
A basic brine is vinegar and salt. After that it's all about the spices.
No much trouble n steps
Will stick to refrigerator pickles 😄
I ❤️LOVE all your canning vids. BUT, why does mine never make the amount your’s does?? I follow the exact recipe. Never has come out same amount.
Do u have a full pickle recipe for dill pickles????? Every one I have tried have WAY TO MUCH SALT FOR MY FAMILY. Yet we love dill pickles from the store, any brand. Please please help.
Not yet, sorry

Where did you get mustard seeds in bulk?

What is your opinion on the Orchard Road lids? I got them last year, and I have mixed reviews on them. Your thoughts?
I love them and laugh every time I hear them pop. You have to be very careful about over tightening the rings. It will cause issues.
I jump every time they pop ! They definitely don't ping like Ball lids. 😂 good to know about the over tightening though. I'll watch for that. Thanks Leisa
Yum!!!!
These are my favorite pickles, but I am not supposed to have sugar now. What a bummer.
Have you ever tried this recipe using Stevia instead of sugar?
Do you not pack them down at all?
As I debubble they go down.
I’m trying to catch up on your videos. My neighbor makes B&B pickles. She uses pickle crisp? Ever heard of that?
