    These days I often re-watch you guys' old livestreams and feel grateful to all four of you for not giving up on people who consider themselves far from the political process, myself included. And for trying to deliver the new in much fun and easier way.1325? how would I ever know what that even means without your explaining it using easier terms. I just wanted to say thank you all for leading and guiding not just myself but more and more of people to find their their ways to get involved, and allowing us to feel that we are being part of this democratic process. It feels great.

    Beto should've run for Senate again. I hate to be an armchair strategist, but just contrast how comfortable he was running against Cruz with how worn out and disinterested he seems from running for the nomination to take on Trump. Not only do we need senators, but we need Beto as one of them. I think Julian Castro feels the same way and wanted to goad him into reconsidering his decision during the debate.

      Warren has been fighting against big banks and for the little guy for her whole career. If she's not authentic then no one is. And certainly not Flip-flopping, lying, cheating, stealing, trump.

      Admittedly, I didn't know about her being a republican before, but nothing suggests to me that the change of party was anything other than a genuine change of mind. It's not like liberal economics were popular in the mid 90's so you can hardly accuse her of weather-vaneing.

    Most of the candidates seemed like they were trying at every moment to insert prepared talking points into the discussion, with some efforts smoother than others since their comments didn't always match up with the questions. Even Harris often felt like she was overacting a bit. I have to say that Mayor Pete never comes off like this even though I recognize some of his lines from previous speeches. He addresses the question directly and thoroughly and seems very knowledgable and sincere. He didn't engage in any fights but he looks like he has the right temperment to handle Trump and the job. I like to imagine what it would look like to have Pete being articulate and earnest on the issues and Trump being all dumb and Trumpy.

    • @SchulzEricT
      @SchulzEricT 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. Every "answer" began with a resume, typically followed up by an attack on every other candidate (even though they agree on most everything), then the least controversial comment one could make as a closer (for instance: "we shouldn't steal kids away from their parents then lock them up" followed by applause from the fucking useless audience - get rid of the audience!).
      This is part of why I've always been so disinterested in debates specifically, and politicians in general. They refuse to speak with any clarity.

    As a native Texan, I was disappointed in Castro, and he's still not getting any traction with me. I don't completely agree with him on immigration code 1325 and thought the Crooked Media crew brought up excellent points in retort to Castro's proposal (like executive orders to end family separation and mass detention). It seems to me his conflation of 1325 with family separation is just a political ploy with no real substance.

It's part of her job, Gabbard has served for over six years on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Armed Services Committee where she's been intimately involved with sensitive, national security issues. It's better to talk with adversaries and use diplomacy, which is what Tulsi did. Take another look at Rep. Gabbard and do a bit more research, 'cause she just might be our next president. You're right, Bernie needs to make the argument that a public option lacks the universality required to work. If most of the people buying into Medicare are sick, and healthy people stick with private insurance, then Medicare will become insolvent and Republicans will shit all over it. Single payer works best when it's truly a single payer--when rich people have to use it, they make sure it's good enough for them. If it's good enough for them, it's probably good enough for everyone else. Single payer maximizes buying power, reduces stigma, and spreads out the risk pool. In my opinion, a public option is doomed to fail and will not lead us to Medicare For All. It's tough to make this argument in a 30-second sound bite, but Bernie needs to figure out how.

    • @blakeb9964
      @blakeb9964 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose. But everyone on Medicare now is sick. Public option would work best as a transition Single Payer.

    • @quackoverflow
      @quackoverflow 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right, and Medicare is very expensive for that reason. It's reasonable to assume that sick people would buy into Medicare via a public option because it'd be cheaper for them, while healthy people would stick with private insurance because it'd be cheaper for them. This could undercut Medicare and doom it to failure. Additionally, I fear that the best doctors and hospitals would choose to not accept Medicare. Another thing to consider is that a public option does not guarantee health insurance to everyone, thus many people are left uninsured or underinsured. Single payer needs to include everyone in order to gain the most bargaining power and cut out the waste, fraud, and inefficiencies of the current system. A public option may be politically expedient, but I'm really worried that it would negate the benefits of a true single payer system and leave us in a worse place than we are now.
