      I have a 10g in my apartment I want a bigger tank but have to wait till we move which could still be a few more years. In my 10g I have a kuhli loach (1), nerite snail, cherry barb (1), Colored Skirt Tetra (aka ghost tetras cause you can see thru them)x3, what I believe to be sunset cobra round tail guppy (2), and pest snails who I use to hate but man do they keep my tank in awesome condition! Are there any other puffers besides the pea puffer that would be okay in a 10 gallon tank? I really want a pufferfishhhh!

    My Pea Puffers lived for almost 4yrs, I had them on my desk, they would watch the monitor and go mental when I'd sit at my desk, as a dog would do when you come home from work, amazing little fish.

    I had a colony of pea puffer in my first 10 gallon, and those little boogers were hilarious to watch dart in and out of the micro sword clump in the tank center. They'd pop out and chase eachother around the tank before darting back inside their leafy green house. Definitely a good species full of character, and they definitely can recognize you when you come over to watch them for a bit; mine would swim to the front of the tank for me, but hid from my brother.

      ive seen video of them in the wild in a stream and there was loads like im talkin 50 or more shoaling together so i guess as long as you have enough room for them to establish their own territories they should be fine i only have 3 in a 10 gallon got 3 cos that was the deal in store but mine get along fine i have a huge clump of moss on wood in middle of tank and two long grass plants at the front on each side

    Sound advice on the pea puffers. My experience is that they feel safer in a group of 6+, as long as they each have their own hiding spot (densely planted tank is optimal). Because they naturally scour the substrate/plants for snails and food, they don't need a lot of swimming-space, only enough hiding spots to get out of the line of sight from eachother.

    I have had large tanks for many years. In the past few years we have had to move a lot more than we would like due to work so we have avoided the large tanks until we get a little closer to retiring and plant ourselves in a home we will live at for the rest of our lives. So in the meantime we have a tall 10 gallon tank. I have a variety of live plants and they have done well. I have a sand bottom as an FYI. I have watched your videos on improving standard filters via some modifications. I have a standard 'back of the tank' filter. I added a Fluval cylinder sponge around the bottom of the tub that brings the water into the filtering area. Instead of a standard charcoal filter, I added a Fluval sponge in the filter housing. In the slot that holds the standard charcoal filter, I used a filter bag that you can add whatever (vs the sealed filters medium). I then added the Fluval cylinder shaped filter medium (looks like cylinder shaped coral) to house healthy bacteria. I let the tank cycle with the live plants and everything is looking good so I added small tropical fish. I have 2 small black mollies, 6 zebra danios, 6 neon tetras and 1 cory cat. Its been about 3 days now and everyone seems to have adjusted well. I know its easy to overstock a tank so I wanted to get your opinion. Is it overstocked based on it only being a 10 gallon? My thought is that with the live plants and the modifications to the filter plus a 10% water change every 7-10 days, my fish should be good. In all my years of keeping larger tanks, this is the first tank I planted live plants (most were grown from bulbs) and my thought is they will help a lot in maintaining a healthy tank. As to the current specs today, the ph is around 7 and there are no signs of ammonia, nitrates or nitrites. Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

      Maggie Brayton do you think 5 corys and a betta are fine for a 10g??

    • @maggiebrayton4258
      @maggiebrayton4258 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@agg7226 it might work but I would be worried about the personalities of the fish. Corys are really active and it might annoy the beta. If you try it, be prepared to separate the beta. Beta usually are pretty good with fish that don't look like betas, but you never know

      This actually isn't good stocking, as white clouds are cold water fish and betta are warm water fish. If you heat it the clouds will be unhappy, if you don't have a heater the betta will be unhappy.

    i’ve been binge watching your videos recently because i got one 10 gallon tank with a crayfish, and now i want more tanks. the crayfish is seriously a pain in the butt, he tries to jump out of the tank every time you reach in to fix something, but he is beautiful. i really want a 20 or 40 gallon betta sorority tank with tons of plants and a big centerpiece of driftwood.

    I recently rearranged and consolidate aquariums from all over the house. One of my favorites was a tank of Multies . The only problem I had with that tank was anytime I or anyone else approached, they would make a mad dash for their shells. When I moved them, I decided to add some Endlers just to see what would happen. Well, the Multies no longer would dash into their shells when anyone approached. They began to swim and stay in all levels of the aquarium. Never once have I seen them chase any Endler. I don't know yet if when the Endlers have fry, the Multies will eat them (they don't eat their own). You mentioned the fun of watching them move trumpet snails and their rearranging the tank bottom. You forgot to mention the fun of seeing the babies peeping out of the shells and racing back in -- always gives me a chuckle.

    Pea puffers are DEFINITELY the gateway drug to bigger puffers. I moved on to a Figure 8 puffer and a Saddle Valentini Puffer later. Still have a soft spot for those little derps though. They also lived in a community tank with tiger endlers, peacock gudgeons, and eventually blue rams. Never once had a problem with them bullying any other types of fish other than themselves. I actually think my big male Blue Ram bullied them.

    I got really lucky with my 3 pea puffers in my 10 gallon. They live in a tank full of cherry shrimp and 2 male guppies. They do sometimes snack on the baby shrimp but they leave the guppies alone. I do keep them well fed on snails (some blood worms and brine shrimp) with lots plants for cover for the shrimp. Probably wont work for most people.

    Perfect video for me, as i've just started my first planted tank, but it's 15 gallons. So far my tank has a few nerite snails and some amano shrimp. I'm thinking of eventually adding a betta or some pea puffers, but i'm concerned they'll just murder all the shrimp?

    I have just set up a 15 gallon tank with 4 dwarf yellow puffers, 2 pleco, and an established elephant nose. All good so far, hoping no chance of elephant nose annoying or eating the puffers, doesnt seem like it so far. Bought the tank to separate the elephant nose cos he was too aggressive in my main tank, and with just the elephant nose in a 15 gallon I thought I would add the others. Quite new (6 months in, so being adventurous).

      Mine are fairly active, and they do like interacting with eachother! There was a time when I only had 1 ADF in my tank and hid most of the day, only coming out of hiding to catch his breath. He brightened right up when I introduced the second one, and they like to scavenge and explore together, so I do recommend getting at least two! Hope that helped :D
