    • @bryan_vlogs8823
      @bryan_vlogs8823 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I know. The Austin Dillon wreck looked worse than this wreck. When Newman's wreck came to rest, I've thought he was ok. They just needed to turn around the car and he will get out like talladega 2009. But they had to cut him out of the car and take him to the hospital. But I think that the two crashes are very scary.

    • @m.c.martin
      @m.c.martin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      BryanVlogs Dillon wasn’t hit on the driver side door like Newman. Sure Dillon lost both the back and front end of his car, but being hit in the driver side door, upside down, at 150-180 mph can instantly kill someone had it not been for the cages on the car.
      Newman’s was worse for a Person, Dillon’s was worse for the Car.

      They're equal when it comes to how bad they were but if you're talking about driver safety, after the second hit you could tell newman's roll cage was compromised. The front and back were floppy and you never see that happen in a nonfatal wreck except michael waltrip at bristol but that's completely a different story.

    Ryan Newman is now the highest finishing driver to finish upside down in the Daytona 500, and the only to have a top 10 while doing so, previous best was Clint Bowyer in 2007, with a 17th place I believe?

    Weird how Ryan’s crash is likely the last shared memory anyone has of normal life prior to the madness we’ve seen since Mar ‘20.
    To this day I can’t see this crash without getting maybe the most deepest rooted feeling of nausea I’ve ever experienced. Newman has always been one of my favorite NASCAR drivers since he started in the #12 Alltel car for Roger Penske. The instant I saw his inverted car hit, catching Ryan just behind the driver’s side B-post, or basically right behind Ryan’s left ear - I thought I had watched him be killed. If I had been standing I’d have likely gone to my knees. Seeing this it feels like yesterday.
    Thanks for putting in the effort, and time, to edit this together! I don’t think I will ever forget that crash, or how it seems like everybody’s last “normal memory”. But it’s great to have it all compiled here like this. Pretty awesome that Ryan noticed it too, and that it helped him put together what had happened.
    Thanks again! Brilliant job on this! 👍🏼

    I'm sorry man, but I teared up watching this. I teared up as the wreck happened and I will never look at the wreck differently. It shocked me then and it still amazes me. To think that Newman survived that after the impact he had is beyond us. To hear how silent and shocked the stands went after the wreck is frightening. I guess the bright side is that Newman is alive and the racing community doesn't have to endure another passing. Hope this sparks continued discussion for safety and how racing should be looked at again.

    All I can say as long time nascar fan is that that night felt like the late afternoon early evening of 2/18/2001 glad he was ok and ready race again still one of not the worst crashes ive seen in my almost 30 years of watching NASCAR

    the first hit everyone was yelling and cheering cause you know it was entertaining. The second hit was the complete opposite everyone who could see it clearly went quiet and scared, I cant imagine how impact-full on everyone brains this would be watching it on live tv, let alone on the track. Its an absolute miracle that Newman survived, and one of the wonders that still lingers in our heads

    I didn't even see the hit at first, I wad pissed about Blaney being robbed. Then when they showed Ryan Newman's car sliding, I was stunned. Then when they showed the car leaking liquid, I was screaming "get him out of there before he burns!" Then when they cut away and Jeff Gordon almost in tears, scared me to death, I thought Newman was dead. It felt like 2/18/2001 all over again. I didn't sleep until 11pm that night. I was shaking, felt sick to my stomach and just sad. Thank God Ryan lived

    I think all of the fan angles sum up NASCAR fans pretty well: The first hit (Ryan into the wall) there is cheering. People want to see a wreck and last-lap pass at Daytona. But after the second hit (Corey hitting Ryan), people realize how bad this can be the cheers die down.
    Thank God that Ryan Newman walked away!

    Man, the actual tv cameras don't do justice to this sport. The amateur footage from phones really shows just how hard and violent that crash was. It's also easier to recognise that these are not small race cars and that it's being thrown a few football fields at 200mph, upside down, backwards ... and on fire.

  • @torque-ej4nu

    Looking back, now knowing Newman is okay and racing, (still not as good as he was but that's just imo) this was one hell of a race. One of the best 500s in recent years. You can this sport still has fans and passion running through it. And like that one dude said, the sheer reaction from the crowed is enough to write bout, much less the insanity that led up to that reaction of jaw dropping silence.
