    I was a student when I was in Colchester some years ago and I never realised how confusing the roads were when I was there. However, I heard from friends and acquaintances who owned cars complain about how much they hated driving on roundabouts near the campus.
    I am learning to drive in another part of the country at the moment and started looking at Richard's videos and demonstrations and I can truly say I completely agree with what my fellow classmates said about Colchester being a city-planning chaos as it has roundabout after roundabout, especially the road near the Greenstead Tesco, pure nightmare for learner driver, I could imagine.
    Your videos have been helping me a lot in easing the anxiety that I have when it comes to driving. I wish I had an instructor like you who is so understanding of learner drivers' nerves.
    Thanks bro and keep up the good work.

    this is SO helpful thank you and much needed. im very indecisive, i'd need to plan half an hour before making a decision lol.
    if i think i can go, i'll be wrong and then my instructor will have to step in and brake sharply
    if i think i need to stop, i'll be wrong and then my instructor will ask why i've stopped when its perfectly fine

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      This is a common problem, I find a good solution is not to say when my pupil should go, I give a commentary on what I can see so my pupil can learn how I read the roundabout. It's up to my pupil when they want to go, but I will stop them if it's unsafe.

You only go when you know it is safe for you to move. If the car behind you beeps, then you go and cause an accident, you will be ruled at fault for the damage. Remember you are in control of the vehicle, no one else.

    @andrewclifton429 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great video! I'd like to point out a danger moment at 8:16 where there's queue of vehicles in the outer lane of the roundabout, none of them signalling right, so it looks safe to go. You can't see, at this point, that there's a black Audi waiting to come out from the middle lane of the road on the right - but it's blocked by the queue in front of it.
    However, at 8:17 a silver Audi in the queue stops to let the black Audi in - and it comes through quite briskly, heading for the inner lane of the roundabout and going around to the right (but not signalling right, as far as I could see!). So, had you moved out, at 8:16, going into the middle lane to turn right around the roundabout, you'd be going straight in front of the black Audi. Bang!
    Here's what I think about it: NEVER do what the silver Audi does, and stop to let someone in from the left, who doesn't have priority. Also, never do what the black Audi does, and take advantage of this tempting invitation, to move out through priority traffic. Apart from the risk I've just explained, I doubt the black Audi driver could see clearly past the vehicles in the outer-lane queue, to see anything coming around the inner lane he's driving into!
    I'm only a learner driver, but this seems like common sense to me. Does anyone agree?

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry but I disagree, it's good driving from the silver Audi to not block the entrance to the roundabout. That queue can be there for 2 hours sometimes! You're expected to leave entrances and exits clear when in queueing traffic. I understand your point about the danger but that's the responsibility of the driver about to enter the roundabout, you should be fully expecting the black audi to come from between the cars in traffic. If you can't see very far you should do what's known as peeping and creeping into the junction to check it's safe. There will be a video on that soon. But in the case of the black audi, I would have just gone before I could see the black audi as I had time to make it. By the time you see the black audi you don't have time so will have to wait. If you think about it, you're both starting from stationary and going at the same time so you should have time. New drivers who can only accelerate very slowly will struggle with this but that's why it's important to learn to accelerate well before attempting big junctions.

      @@ConquerDriving Thanks for your very thoughtful comment! I stand corrected - what you say makes perfect sense; especially the point that if you decide to go before seeing the black Audi you should be safe, because both cars are starting from stationary, and you're well ahead of him. Or her. I'll keep in mind the point about letting people through a queue; I've not yet had that experience on a busy roundabout, but it's bound to crop up sometime - possibly, when I'm taking my test!

    This video was so so helpful, thank you very much. I couldn't turn right for so many years because I would feel extremely anxious, I never knew where to look and I couldn't judge when to turn across traffic, but your tip about looking left more than right is all I needed to know. I would always turn left even if i needed to go right, then I'd go round doing left turns over and over till i got where i needed to go! Since I watched this a few weeks ago I've managed to turn right a few times, I've been practicing when there isn't too much traffic.

    Hi. I live in a small town in México where everyone learns to drive from their uncles, dads, mothers or older siblings lol. You actually don't even have to take a driving test here in order to get a license. It's kind of insane. The point that I'm trying to make is that your videos have been such a help! There's basically no one around to teach me how to properly drive, but your videos have given me so much confidence and understanding, and I just feel sooo much safer while driving thanks to your advice.

    Judging which way people are going on roundabouts would be far easier if they signalled (which they almost never do). Though this video has helped I still don't like roundabouts. Apart from the 'which way are they going/are they going to cross my intended path' thing I am also concerned about side-swiping anything to my sides. I'm OK with small roundabouts but big busy ones I hate.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally it's easier on bigger roundabouts as the exits are much further apart so you get more time to see where people are going.

      @@ConquerDriving Yes there is that, but I still hate them. Last year I returned to a car after 23 years on motorcycles, and on a bike I was fine. But not so in a car. It's something to do with a car being wider and with far less visibility. And less manouverable.
