Because when Jean was with them, and when they recorded this, they were The Supremes, and even had a UK patent on the name in 1989/1990. Once Jean left, they reverted to FLOS.
Ian did a great job at reintroducing the members of this group...Jean was magical, Scherrie was still singing her butt off...Lynda is talented (and beuatiful ,but tends to overdo the lead on everything she recorded...too much for me ..same with Susaye-(we don't need Eartha K imitations) I always wanted to know why Jean cut out of this grouping...and what exactly stopped the Lp....Mary Cindy and Scherrie were my favorite grouping. Stylish, gorgeous and blended well. am I too young?
It's amazing how Jean has the grace and style taught by Miss Maxine Powell and YES she did work with Jean...it shows the Motown style! So elegant! Just watch her presence...and that is not to say that Scherrie and Lynda are NOT a Supreme... and ARE truly Supreme...just an observation. Love all the Ladies of the Supremes! They are all truly the Supremes! And Scherrie and Lynda carry on!!! I just wish that Jean had stayed! Love them all as I said earlier!
Jean was an incredible singer, and should probably have come on the scene as just Jean Terrell. The Supremes were thier own entity and no one, no, no one, could match or recreate their sound or legacy. Even when Cindy Birdsong came along, the name was rightfully changed, because there was no sound, no combination that could match Diana, Mary and Florence. Those ladies were truly Supreme.
Great to hear Jean Terrell again. Her lead vocals on Stoned Love, Up The Ladder To The Roof, Nathan Jones, etc.. are superior. Production on this is far superior to more recent FLOS/Supremes projects - great sound.
Jean had stopped talking to Mary before she left. Lynda declined to rejoin(wanted more money and a part of the corp.) Neither attened an event in Marys honor( I think her wedding shower). It has often been reported that Jean was at times distant from the fans.
You don't have to answer this if you don't want to but the song "Nathan Jones (you've been gone too long)" is a massive fave of mine, is that anything to do with you and what may have been hapenning at the time? you seem to have been very close to the scene at that time.
Because I wanted footage to go with the record, and the live vocals weren't as good as the studio recording, not from the vocals point of view but certainly from the band's.
Jean sounds very "Supreme" here. And I don't mean being a Ross-soundalike...although I think that Diana-type vocal in the lead gave The Supremes a signature sound. But it's the song, it's very innocent-sounding, and the best Supremes hits had that youthful feeling. The singles in the '70s tried too hard to be sophisticated and too complicated sometimes.
This is a good song. It is about as close as the Supremes after 1974 came to doing something that could have been a hit. With Jean, they had good chances. After Jean left, they lost touch with the times and their sound was too dated. But this was good.
Jean's voice hasn't changed at all...The ladies are looking good and sounding even better..
LOL FLOTS!! Jean has it!!That unmistakeable Supremes magic. You clearly see it in this video. I can't even explain it but its there. Great, Ian.

When is this from? 1989?? Yes, the good old days. Nice to see Jean this way.
Ian- This Is Just FANTASTIC!!! Love This Track!!! Take Care-David

She went solo and did that album with A&M.
I Love Lynda and Scherrie true talents of the 70's Supremes along with Jean Terrell

As indeed it was. The recording was 1989.
You certainly did a great job! What year was this recorded? The arrangement is very 80's.

More Beach Music Sounds from Ian Levine.

Jean is an amazing singer, however you will not that this is not the live vocal. I wonder how come?
