Bin ein 83ér, aber stimme dir vollkommen zu. Das heute hat weder den Flair noch die Tiefe von damals. Die Remixe sind sehr nett aber leider nicht das Original...

Add Gloria Gaynor, Connie Francis, Laura Branigan, Linda Ronstadt, Rita Coolidge, Celine, Mariah, and Whitney and you have the lineup of the greats right up to Adele and Susan Boyle.
But, Jennifer Rush has the all-around best female voice I have ever heard. Her operatic training adds an unmatched vibrato containing depth and texture. And she sings everything: opera, pop, rock, and ballads in English, Spanish, German, and Hungarian.
She also studied piano and violin at Juilliard. She has written or co-written the lyrics and music for many of her songs, done duets with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, Elton John and Brian May-sorry-Sir Brian May, Michael Bolton, and performed live all over the world-but not in America, except in March and April 1986 on the Carson show and the Dick Clark Show; that’s it.
Why is she the best? Effortless high range: (look at Celine’s cover with Jennifer singing “Power of Love” to see the ease with which Jennifer handles the highest notes.) Personally I love the name Jennifer / Jenny, but I have always wondered why she chose this particular name - could it perhaps have been inspired by the Canadian rock band, Rush, who were very popular in 1983 when she chose her "new" name?

For many years I've referred to this one as one of my "guilty pleasures". You know.....those songs from your past that you love, but feel you ought to be somewhat embarrassed about liking. But recently something has hit me and made me think "Why the hell should I be self-conscious about loving Ring Of Ice?" I saved my pocket money up at the time, went to Woolworths when I had enough to buy the 12" vinyl, and cheerfully bought it. I thought it was a superb - and very very catchy - track. And now, almost 40 years later, I STILL appreciate absolutely everything about this song. It really is a brilliant tune.
And, yes, I still own the 12" record I bought all those years ago. Nothing to play it on, but nostalgia means the record stays with me!

I was just a teenager in the '80s when this song came out. My older sister dragged me around getting me to listen to all the Jennifer Rush songs while doing the housework all day on Saturday. We'd put the cassette tape on or the records and hound the neighbors at FULL high volume. Great times then. The '80s were some of my best years growing up. A LOT OF FUN!!!

@@musicevolution5815 It was a time of GREAT FREEDOM, FUN, and not only that, people GENUINELY CARED about each other and would often drop in on each other with some grocery shopping, toys, and clothes, etc to share a few wonderful moments with friends and family. The utmost peace in the air you felt in the ambiance was highly evident. It was a time of great harmony and everyone was usually happy and glad and smiling and laughing. Saturdays at our place were a mixture of activities like cake making, the beach, swimming pool leisure centers, parties with everyone dressed beautifully, the zoo, and having tons and tons of friends over for a few hours and lots of music on high volume. The eighties and nineties were a time when people actually knew the very meaning of togetherness and sharing each other's company and appreciate it. The kids at school back then were happy and generally well-adjusted. So yeah, I miss the eighties and nineties. Best YEARS of my life I say.

Drove around in my car and listened to an Oldie Radio Station and this song came on. This song really reminds me of my childhood as my parents always listened to her cassettes. I remembered us driving through the Bavaria forest to go skiing.

I bought her album with this track on it, on cassette in 1984. Later got it on CD.
40 years later, it sounds just as good, and most tracks still give me goosebumps when I hear them.

Heute bin ich 43, aber wenn ich das wieder sehe und höre, kann ich gleich wieder die Welt um mich herum vergessen. Absoluter Wahnsinn. Mom's last name is Cagnazzo which is usually Italian. Weird, her parents look European but she looks more Middle Eastern. Not sure if there is any Latino unless her mom is from C or S America.

The album where this song is on went _double_ platium and lingered in Germany's charts for two years!
It went to number 22 in Germany which isnt a massive hit as you claim however I do agree it was a huge radio hit.

Ring Of Ice was #1 in South Africa and good rankings througout Europe. Music business was different back then. Songs stayed in charts for way longer than in todays culture of disposable content.
If you look at the #1 Hits in Germany 1984 you'll see how steep the competition was in the 80s: Alphaville, Giorio Moroder, Depeche Mode, Laura Branigan, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Stevie Wonder, Duran Duran and not to forget singers and bands of national interest.

Celine is more of a screamer' shrill' sharp' even scratchy and irretating' does not transition nearly as well' .. and no wonder' on the bottom of Jennifer's foot' is written.. "made in heaven" ... I agree with David and Len 100% Her voice is awesome .l have only just recently picked up on her songs and she has a beautiful ambiance about her and her music. I luv her tone and l would rate her very highly better than Celine dion and Laura Branagon. I do like Laura alot but she tends to scream on the high notes and loses it a bit but again l like her version of 'Gloria ' and she had a beautiful presence and looked like a lovely soul . Jennifer Rush has a beautiful pitch and effortless power . I would love to hear her sing in person and she would smash out some damn good tunes of other artists. In her younger years very attractive and magnetic.

I discovered her a couple years ago when I was watching a documentary about that British TV show Top of The Pops. I'm American so she's mostly unknown here. Her and Betty Boo, who I also discovered on that documentary, are now my favorite singers.

I bought my first CD player back in 1985, and I think Jennifer Rush's album was one of the first CDs I bought, along with Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms". I went on to listen to more rock and metal starting from the 1990's, but listening to Jennifer today, I can't help but still be amazed at her powerful voice.
