Dave Allen made his TV debut in the BBC talent show New Faces (1959). In Australia he hosted the popular show Tonight with Dave Allen (1963-4), which was later screened in Britain, the success of which led to his own BBC comedy series Dave Allen at Large (1971, 1975). Throughout the 1970s and 1980s he continued to tour internationally with his one-man show and also performed as a dramatic actor.

The son of a prominent Irish journalist, he decided to become a professional entertainer at the age of 19, and went to England where he made his television debut in the BBC talent show New Faces (1959). In Australia he hosted the popular show Tonight with Dave Allen (1963-4) which was later screened in Britain, the success of which led to his own BBC TV comedy series Dave Allen at Large (1971, 1975). Throughout the 1970s and 1980s he continued to tour internationally with his one-man show and also performed as a dramatic actor.

Love to him and ken - I met Dave for BBC, he was so pleasant after the show (1981).
I also did a mega mess-up on introduction, but thar thou goes or wents.
He was far more calmer in real life - + a total bloke, offering me a fag (no pun). Mark.

Dave Allen was good. Val Doonican was alright but a bit boring!
