I am going to be completely honest here, this is an amazing car but one of the reasons why I liked the S-Class so much was because of its simplicity and interior craftsmanship, but with this new model, it looks more like a consumer electronic product than an actual vehicle. When you look at the previous generation, there were physcial buttons for most of the interior funtions and some of them even had metal finishes. With that being said every button in this vehicle is this glossy black plastic and it just looks so cheap and not like Mercedes. The last generation in my opinion is so much better and it looks much more expensive. For god's sake, they even got rid of the interior clock that S-Class models had for decades. I would expect this in say Lexus or Acura, but physical buttons is a way for manufacturers to actually incorporate high quality materials into their cabin.
@@ahmedxkhan exactly, I’m not against techs my cars but there comes a point when too much tech can actually cheapen the vehicle. Look a Bentleys, they have a lot of tech but they also realize that what you paying for is the details and the finishes of the interior. When I look in this a class, there is nothing that looks high quality except for the seats and maybe some of the door buttons
@@arthuri635 This is car is going to be amazing for the first owner, but second owner is going to get a disgusting fingerprinted, scratchy black plastic car when the first persons lease is up
Absolutely agree. More and more manufacturers are shifting towards display only car control. The tech being integrated into the cars is a good thing, when implented with the sense in mind. The AC controller for example is one of the knobs which are accessed a lot when driving and having to navigate through a sometimes horribly laggy display just doesn't make any sense. My 2017 X-Trail has a reasonably implented display alongside buttons which i think is the best usable combo.
With the way this S Class turned out and the way the next gen 7 Series is looking, I think the A/S8 is about to be my favorite of the big 3 Germans in this segment purely by default lol.
I really like how you walk around and around the car. It really shows off the design through the screen. Much better than those other youtubers just showing lots of close-ups.
Wouldn’t want to drive this car because it doesn’t seem fun but I would love to ride in the back seat of one of those. I rode in a 2018 BMW 750li a few times and it was the most pleasant road trip ever.
Same bro, series 7 , mercedes S, maybach kind of type are cars that u dont buy for the pleasure of driving, u get them when you have money and a driver and you sit back and enjoy the ride. Thats how I feel about this kind of cars
I drove a 98 S500 and still to this day it’s one of the most impressionable cars I’ve ever been behind the wheel of. It basically felt like a silent floating brick/tank that could woosh past 120mph on accident…. I can only imagine what this car is like to drive
I think W222 looks better inside and out. Don't care for the excessive tech. No surprise these youtube reviewers are all young and tech savvy and love these cars.
Absolutely incredible. The tech is a bit much, but I love how capable the driving experience is. Everything seems to be so seamless, and it’s all done to make it drive so well. Can’t believe the grip it has with the winter tires. Time will tell how reliable all this tech will be, but I’m impressed.
1:47 what the actual hell is that? $100k+ car COVERED in glossy black plastic. That thing is going to be covered in scratches and fingerprints within the week. Who would buy this?
This is a beautiful interior, but I agree with some of my fellow commenters that the inside is becoming an ostentatious tech-fest. The last-gen was the perfect blend of class and new tech.
Glad to see a lot of people here with similar opinions about the interior. This generation of sticking a giant ipad in the middle and calling it an interior is really sad to see. Lol only hope of them changing it is in the court of public opinion, I would assume
The last gen S looked more stately, this remake's not quite as nice The original anime's still the the best, unlike Netflix anime remake At least Yoko Kanno, the music composer, came back. Made a guitar cover video for the ending theme, The Real Folk Blue
Of course it isn't 3 times better. Just like with any range of products, there's a curve of "value per dollar" and you get diminishing returns near the top. When you jump from a $20k car to a $30k car you get massive improvement, but the gap between a $60k car and a $80k car is much smaller, and it shrinks further still from a $100k car to a $130k car. The point of S Classes, Bentleys, and other top luxury cars is just "because we can", and buyers choose them because they want the best and the extra cost isn't significant to them.
I think efficiency might be part of the design goal rather than sheer power. The last Lexus LS with the NA V8 got 16 city/24 highway. In comparison, this S class gets 21 city / 30 highway.
If you dont mind, 2 questions: what is the origin the your title "thetopher," and what is its difference from Winding Road Magazine channel? Just curious ... Really enjoy your commentary and your quiet "chuckling!"
Topher was just a nickname, short for Christopher. And this channel was always meant to be similar to WR, but with spoken reviews and driving impressions. Thanks for watching!
Honestly i prefer the older infotainment systems, all that tech is cool and all but very fragile i think imagine you accidentally spill coffee on that interiors ipad
The overall interior atmosphere is elegant and modern. The piano blacks look clean and sleek, but are they as expensive a material as the real wood, metal and leather? That cheapening out vibe should not be felt in a sedan like this. I guess Mercedes was jealous of Tesla being making money with such simple and cheap interior. We got more brand power. Why should we use such expensive materials when we got the brand. Even Tesla is making money out of their brands. Just cheap out everything and tell people that this is the new form of luxury. Besides, I think the exterior definitely looks cheaper than the previous model.
There’s no flow in the interior anymore. With the two completely separate screens that aren’t integrated at all. I may be 17 but I don’t like these overly high tech interiors with almost no buttons
Was the outside temp 48 degrees? (hard to read) Pretty impressive for those winter tires. Anything above freezing my Blizzak's feel like I'm driving on 4 spare tires and each turn is shredding them to bits.
The worst thing about these displays and basically all car displays is that they are always covered by dirty filthy oily fingerprints. The other disadvantage is that they are dim and this makes them ugly, like you use a laptop under the sun, they're just disgusting under bright daylight. Automakers must do something about these problems but they don't seem to be concerned about these problems at all.
Brother please I request you to play my favorite music on this Mercedes s class. I want to check out how it sounds on burmester 4d speaker. I'm sure you gonna love that music as well.
Too much flash and there are too many glossy areas on the car. The matte wood version is better. Too much piano black. It's hard to tell how quiet it is because cars sound noisier on videos but you can still hear the wheels rolling as well as the strips and crevices in the road. I don't doubt the car is smooth but for its reputation, expectations are high. It's still has some of the same sensations of any car.
Can’t imagine how many features Topher did not have time to cover. Exterior looks great and sure this drives like a dream. But on camera that interior just seems to lose the elegance and style I would expect on a car like this. Sure the touch quality and comfort is second to none but just a little bit overdone for my taste.
Will this generation of S-Class be more reliable than the predecessor? A $100K+ vehicle with a full warranty less than many Korean mainstream auto brands. Adding so many layers of tech does not translate to a long-term luxury ownership experience. The fact that you see more Lexus LS 400s still on the road than the equivalent model year S-Class speaks volumes about quality and long-term reliability. Mercedes seems afraid to build a bullet-proof and reliable car anymore and is focused on piling on the gizmos and getting the customer to lease their vehicles before reliability issues start to tarnish the customer experience.
It looks good from side and front but that rear is so ugly. the interior looks like it went backwards from the last gen. Not liking the Tesla style center screen.
Wow I love the overall interior design and materials but despise the gauge cluster and huge tablet laziness. Screens are cheap. Look at Conti GT interior for class
i like the tech but something about the exterior design looks like a combination of Audi and Hyundai... looks more like someone impersonating a mercedes than an actual mercedes designed car. exterior only that is. interior is 9.5/10 i think screen placement looks awkward, only flaw.
the abundance of screens and gloss black plastic replacing tried and true knobs and switches it goes to show how asinine we are for this crap in our cars to the point it reaches this granted the s class has led to some amazing innovations, but this will NOT age well as time passes, assuming those screens even are functional past the warranty period i would argue the outgoing G90 is more S class than this also the smudges on the screen are kinda offputting to me
It is nice, but that tacky computer stuff totally cheapens a gorgeous car. The previous generation did a better job at incorporating the technology. I also feel like Bentley does a better job at incorporating traditional craftsmanship with technology. They have nice buttons, dials, switches, and a whole lot less black piano gloss plastic. It's just, in Mercedes iconic s-class, throwing around easily scratchable plastic junk just cheapens the whole look and makes a 100,000 dollar plus car look like a budget Audi product. Definitely not liking the interior. Exterior, no complaints
