My whole family watched me play this. They actually enjoyed the story. I remember picking it up the day it was released at my local kb toys store. The 2 startropics are some of my favorite games of all time.

DUDE I just blew my own mind, in 10:58 Nitro says Cleopatra wants a pizza but listen to this fact. Cleopatra had a thing going with the emperor of Rome, Julius Ceaser. And pizzas also existed back then!
This is little known, but actually the egiptians invented the pizza before the Italians, the difference is that the Italians passed on and mastered the art of making pizza, while in Egypt it simply faded away with all the stuff that happened
The bizarre progression of usable weapons in this game is rivaled only by the mighty "TRIANGLE" in Ultima. Good review as always and Happy Anniversary, the first of many i'm sure!
StarTropics 3 opens with the Argonians coming back just as Mike finishing talking to the player saying "We forgot our planet was kind of totally destroyed by Zoda but we got lost on the way back to Earth" and Mike goes on an entire giant quest to draw a giant map of space to help them, only for the game to end with Zoda pointing out that Mike drew his map in 2D, even though space doesn't really work with such a thing, setting up for StarTropics 4, where Mike has to travel into his own map and fix it by pushing things around to create the illusion of 3D.
I just love your dang videos! Every one is so professional and polished. The editing is superb, and it really immerses me in it, as well as your humor. I first subscribed when you had about 300 subscribers and back then, your production value was surprisingly good for how many subscribers you had. I knew you would eventually be big. It was when screwattack was linking to all your videos for a while. I almost feel bad because literally the only comment I ever left on one of your videos was to acknowledge your bionicle posters on your door that have, I assume, been taken down since you put up brand new posters and wall scrolls(by the way, nice kill la kill one). I know Its kind of annoying when you create something and somebody only comments on an unimportant aspect, cause for some reason, people like to acknowledge my profile picture. Seeing both of your StarTropics videos back-to-back has made it clear in my mind: if this series had a 3D installment on the N64, it would have been amazing. Imagine: Z-Rotation! Mike controls just how most people would expect him to control like, but to help out with aiming, you hold the Z button to lock him in place to rotate a full 360 degrees!

No. I can't remember specifically since it was almost four years ago now, but I imagine I probably just did the take over and over until I got a seamless one.
Startropics 2: Zoda's Revenge is an Actionized Sequel, and it shows in my No Damage Runs of both Startropics. I end up preferring Zoda's Revenge for more fine-tuned gameplay, early level design that teaches newbies while still having some respect for veterans, and the boss designed has significantly more fair, balanced fights. Still, you do point out that the first game involves its own selling points, and I will say that the Yo-Yo's gameplay design is definitely missed here, but when all is said and done, which one is better becomes a matter of preference. I simply prefer to fight Zoda-Z's first phase over the Silver Jet Pack Jumpers.

I do think StarTropics 2 still had a hold time for movement on the Dpad, it's just very short compared to ST1, so you have to tap the direction you want to face.
I’d seen the StarTropics games on the eshop and on the list in Brawl, but until watching your videos, I knew nothing about them besides their names. Now I definitely want to give them a shot the first chance I get, and I’d love to see Mike Jones appear in Smash as either playable or an assist trophy. Until then, gonna try requesting a Mike Jones vs. Ness fight for Death Battle, DBX, and One Minute Melee. Those would be sure to make for some crazy and enjoyable matches!

I can’t believe as a kid I never noticed how cartoons that used Egypt as a set piece really disconnected Egypt from the mental concept of it being in Africa. Always felt like it was somewhere else. Only realized once I heard that the “hats” were just natural hair.
While Cleo was born and died in Alexandria, Egypt she was ethnically and genetically a Macedonian (Greek). Most definitions consider Greeks to be white.
It's almost like Egypt is closer to the Middle East, both geographically and culturally, than it is to Sub-Saharan Africa. Who'd have thunk? Only a racist would assume all of Africa is the exact same tbh
Ultimately, I enjoy StarTropics 2 a lot, but I think some of the aspects lack the creativity that ST1 had. Examples of this are some of the level designs and secondary weapon choices. While StarTropics 2 provided this awesome 3Dish platforming aspect, there were a lot of rooms in dungeons that seem empty. All the secondary items aren't as fun as the secondary items in ST1. They're all just throwable projectiles. The ST1 secondary weapons did multiple different things and gave you different attack styles. The best second weapon in ST2 has to be the 3 way shot, like you said. Either way, I still like Zoda's Revenge a lot, I just think some things could have been done better.
This is one of the first games I ever received for my NES (we did have a NES prior to the Super NES, but we sold it when we got the SNES, but got an NES about five years later for a good price at a garage sale). I got a copy of StarTropics II: Zoda's Revenge at Toys 'R Us for six bucks (thanks, Mom & Dad!), and what's really funny, is that about three months later, I found out about the FIRST one (I didn't realize it said StarTropics II until I looked closer on the packaging), and ironically, StarTropics was at the same Toys 'R Us for the same price! This was around 1997, I think???? This is one of my favorite games of all time, and definitely the top 5 for the NES. I think the time traveling, the graphics (NES-wise), and the storyline is awesome! If I had anything to say negatively about this game, is that there wasn't a sequel! But maybe that's a good thing...

Considering the history of yoyo's, it actually would have been an interesting choice to use a primitive stone one instead of the axe.
I love the spriting of this one, the landscapes look beautiful and really fitting for the environment.

Here is a compromise for the movement. Hold down a button and a direction allows you to look in that direction without moving.
