I played so much Startropics. So much. Useta go to sleep and dream I was playing. After that when I was grown for a while I thought it was Zelda I was playing.. but not for to long.. I'm not that dense.
I've been wanting to talk about this game for a long time! People would always talk about how Mother is this gem of an forgotten Nintendo franchise, but I'd argue StarTropics was even more forgotten! Anybody else here play StarTropics? I'd love to know how many others have experienced this game.
***** Startropics is eassssily one of my favorite NES games and while I did vote for him in the Smash Bros poll, it got me thinking... He would just end up having a similar moveset to Ness... I mean, Yo-yo based attacks? Check. Baseball Bat. Check. Even the fireball and freeze power ups he gets are on Lucas with PK Fire and PK Freeze. :( But the one attack Ness and Lucas will never have is Mike's crossdressing.
I remember you mentioned this game in a video I watched like a couple months ago and well, I was curious so I borrowed it from my friend, and it was pretty great. I'm surprised no one ever talks about this game, besides you, because I had a genuinely fun time with it. Here's hoping one day, we'll get a sequel...
OnettBoy Says the person who posts on G+ about Earthbound, and is telling me he that I don't have a life outside of TH-cam, when I do and work my ass off to get to where I am. Not to mention the fact he dislikes a theme song because a certain TH-camr skipped some frames
Dude! My mom used to play the hell out of this game! She flipped when she found out about the sequel(she didn't care for it as much but she still loved it). I totally forgot about this game until I saw the title of this video since my mom was the only one that played it. I would love to see a ST3 if only to play it for her(she passed away in '09) or anything for it. Next to Zelda, StarTropics was her favorite! Great video and don't lose hope, Nintendo could surprise us all one day and bring Mike back! 8D

Gotta be honest, this is one of the funniest and most well-done video game reviews I've seen. You did a fantastic job and I keep rewatching it. Keep up the great work man!
That part where you chant the spell to wake up Bananette? LOVED IT! Should be the extra track to this game's soundtrack. (Or maybe even the titles screen theme).
I love this game. Surprisingly, despite being made by Nintendo, it was not released in Japan. Probably why the series kind of died. I do wish for a third entry in the series hopefully in the style of A Link Between Worlds
The fact that Gulliver makes a reference to this game in Animal Crossing New Horizons in the year 2020 shows how Nintendo haven’t forgotten about this gem.
This game was actually designed specifically to appeal to western audiences. That’s why there’s so many references to traditional “American” culture thrown around. Everything ending in “cola”? Cola’s one of the most popular drinks in the US. Code 1776? That’s the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. Code 747? A popular type of American made plane. Mike Jones? Generic American name #1812. Baseball? America’s pastime. And yet somehow they still manage to be subtle, unlike Britain with their like 1 million ways to take jabs at Americans.
ITS TRUE, SO TRUE ALL YOU FEARS WILL DISAPPEAR THE BAD IN THE WORLD IS HARD TO HEAR WHEN IN YOUR EAR A BANANA CHEERS SO GO AND STICK A BANANA IN YOUR EAAAAAAAAAAAR.
Great video, I've had a copy of StarTropics for a while but have never played it. I'm gonna give it a go soon. Also, thank you for using Shadow Kanji's theme at 3:56
Badman Reviews IDK I am kinda pissed off by all this American stereotype . How would Japan like it say Xbox had a game just for Japan that was based around sushi, romen and raping little girls😃
I think the one thing about Startropics that made it so great and really gets no mention, is the amount of personality the game has. Yeah sure, a lot of it is silly and makes NO sense. But that was what video games (and hell even most cartoons) were like back then. And Startropics did it so well. The game is absolutely FILLED with memorable moments that were downright iconic at the time. That is really what the second one missed. It chose to just kind of fanfic history instead of come up with its own little odd but endearing moments like the first. This is up there with some of the most defining games in my time playing video games. I had the letter and I had to dip it in water because in the early 90s there was no other way you were getting that code. It did suck though when you wanted to replay it and didn't have the letter anymore.
my mom had many consoles growing up, including an nes, and really loved startropics. her save was like, right at the end, im surprised it kept it all these years. it also had her dead brother's save from when he was still alive... and some dude named daniel. idk daniel. probably one of her exes
AntDude, lately, your content has become a really great one, and I can't put my finger on it, but your videos have something refreshing, which is a thing that is starting to lack in the gamer TH-cam world. I hope you get all the views and subscribers that you deserve. Keep the nice work! Greetings from Chile.
my pick was Definitely Isaac. yeah, Isaac. you know, golden sun? the best RPG of all time? nobody remembers to give golden sun love and that makes me sad.
PS StarTropics is an RPG. Not all RPGs are turn based. GOD! I hate when people just go around saying that Zelda isn’t an RPG, now we’re dragging StarTropics into this too?
I think the absolute funniest bit/joke I've ever seen in one of your videos has to be the banana bit in this video. I enjoyed such a hearty chuckle when you inspected the banana after eating it and said "banana's not good". Surprised you didn't segue into a bananaette joke somehow. Not disappointed. Just surprised.
So happy I found your channel. You have a unique review/video style. Have fond memories of this game. It's the first game I bought new with my own money, of course saved from allowance. LOL

Maybe it was inspired by argon?
ElderTropics
that's what I thought
I just noticed you dropped the 92,The other 91 Antdude's must have finally left TH-cam.
The reason why StarTropics isn't remembered is probably because it was never even released in Japan.
ArendAlphaEagle sadly true
That’s not the reason it failed. Startropics was an nes game sold while the Super Nintendo was out. Plus the sequal was marketed poorly.
Opinionated It was released 9 months before the snes in the west though.
I played so much Startropics. So much. Useta go to sleep and dream I was playing. After that when I was grown for a while I thought it was Zelda I was playing.. but not for to long.. I'm not that dense.
Guys just realized something: Zelda BOTW copied the place only wamen can go then the protagonist changes clothes. Lol
I still have to finish playing this game. Well done reviewtropics.
I like that Nintendo put this game on the Mini NES.
But you need the letter in order to know the frequency of the submarine (unless you already know)
@@Captain.Dank64 they did a cool thing on the wii virtual console where you would get a digital letter to soak but Idk what they'll do now
