ouf, that concert had both the 2nd piano concerto and Totentanz... guess Matsuev is athletic enough for that..haha. But my admiration goes to Kocsis , and 2 years later he was dead. :(
Marie-Claire Chapman yes, actually considering the personal relationship that was established between the two, and therefore the mutual influence (more of Berlioz on Listz than vice versa)
It's Matsuev that makes it vulgar; his only aim is to break any metronome record (and I don't think the late Kocsis was particularly happy with it). Listen to Michelangeli, for example: his interpretation is much nobler than this circus number. Liszt was a great composer, he deserves to be treated more seriously and respectfully by pianists.
This is the most epic one can get. Nothing beats this, let's be honest!
Absolutely CORRECT and it was controlled FIRE from the start from both the conductor and from Matsuev
That's amazing, but Cziffra was something else
Pace too tho
Great, great pianist. Visceral in the extreme, breathtaking.
If we could bring Liszt back to life, he would be proud. Stellar performance, could well be one of the best Totentanzes ever performed.
FANTASTIC!
BRUTAL version!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🫶🏻
6:57 THIS IDEIA IS FANTASTIC

THE BEST OF LISZT
Bravo,, unbelievable performance!!

ASOMBROSO.

Enriquece
No one can beat Cziffra’s version.
DM is a typewriter, just a showman, nothing more.
Outstanding performance, rivalling Cziffra's!
Great classic BY Liszt
Cool
Very catchy
13:01: slayed
Anyone else reminded of dream of a witches sabbath from symphony fantastique at the beginning?
Marie-Claire Chapman yes, actually considering the personal relationship that was established between the two, and therefore the mutual influence (more of Berlioz on Listz than vice versa)
both use the same ‚Dies Irae‘ Gregorian chant/melody
@@trisymphony exactly. And they're not the only ones. Another famous composer, who used this theme was Rachmaninov.
Insane

Denis Matsuev as a pianist and Zoltán Kocsis as conductor ? it should be opposite -)
besssssssssssssssssssssst

09:22 - nice cheating
🤷♂️🙉 one practices 100h to get this passage right and people just cheat is just crazy
The orchestra cant play! Slow down!!!!😭😭
This is not TotenTANZ. Matsuev is rushing as ALWAYS. Poor orchestra.
He looks like Podrick from Game of Thrones😂😂😂
Can vulgarity attain greater heights than this of Liszt's?
